  • degrom hit 102 last night
  • meet the new bullpen
  • jeff mcneil also thinks the vax is a personal decision; talk to him, alonso
  • guillorme's throw was bad, but mccann still should have caught it
  • missed keith going 'mmm'
  • wish i didn't have to watch them on my computer using a vpn

been making me a tinge sad that morbs will never get to see lindor in a mets jersey, but i appreciate them remaining a continued source of amusement. keep it up boys

Painfully familiar indeed. Only the Mets would lose to a very depleted Phillies lineup by way of a wild pitch strikeout of the pitcher that ending up scoring the 2 decisive runs.

Michael F Gill, Saturday, 1 May 2021 02:46 (four years ago)

Alvarado and Hoskins trying to start brawls with Smith and Castro was the insult on top of the cake, even had Ron Darling wishing the Mets would have given to the rage.

i love lindor and even tho he's a met i still have a hard time rooting for him to fail, but his slash numbers have been pretty concerning for a bit now even dating back to last season. his SLG percentage has fallen off a cliff and if he's not providing elite power at that position he's kinda just... a high AVG/low OBP shortstop getting into his 30s... it feels pretty dicey to me longterm. they really need him to be an MVP level player for the next 4-5 years because the back half of that contract is gonna be ugly given the type of player he is

Someone send help.

— Palm Beach Cardinals (@GoPBCardinals) May 20, 2021

Karl Malone, Friday, 21 May 2021 15:35 (four years ago)

deGrom needs his own thread:

ERA 0.71 IP 51.0 SO 82 WHIP 0.57

He is 9-for-20 at the plate this season, and he’s allowed only 22 hits in 51 innings on the mound. Put it another way:

Jacob deGrom's season:
4 runs, 3 RBI as a hitter (9-for-20, .450)
4 runs allowed in 51 innings as a pitcher.

— Buster Olney (@Buster_ESPN) June 1, 2021

Vin Jawn (PBKR), Tuesday, 1 June 2021 11:25 (four years ago)

deGrom is going to do what Kluber and Donaldson looked like they might do (but almost certainly won't now): get into the HOF on an astounding peak value after the age of 27.

clemenza, Tuesday, 1 June 2021 15:23 (four years ago)

He still needs to play 3 more years to be eligible, and may need a Cy young / no hitter / post season heroics along the way to really seal the deal. But he is definitely on the path.

Michael F Gill, Tuesday, 1 June 2021 15:50 (four years ago)

You think he needs another cy young?! He could tread water the next three years and I think he’d skate into the hall no problem.
I don’t like his odds of playoffs heroics with the Mets!

He seemed to regress last year offensively, so I get trying to tinker with things, but it clearly has not worked at least when combined with the time he lost with the broken hand. So much of baseball is confidence, I might leave him down a little longer to really make sure he has worked things out.

i was pretty surprised none of the young infield mets were moved. with cedric mullins joining that probably means less time for mcneil at CF. so now have 5 players (mauricio, baty, acuna, vientos, and mcneil) for two infield spots (2B + 3B) and DH, which marte also occupies. vientos/marte platoon doesn't make sense cause they're both righties. i don't really know how it all makes sense?

, Friday, 1 August 2025 19:23 (two weeks ago)

well Acuna's probably being sent to AAA now, so that leaves 4 players

Lupita Geirhongro (The Yellow Kid), Friday, 1 August 2025 19:55 (two weeks ago)

Mauricio at 3B/McNeil 2B/Vientos DH is how I would roll. Baty can sub at 3B/2B based on matchups and Marte can sub at DH if Vientos doesn't figure things out (which he could be in the process of doing).

i've been thinking during this losing stretch that it's kinda like the start of the 2024 season. a ton of close, 1 run games that the mets are on the other side on. i was glad to hear keith say the same thing during today's broadcast.

, Monday, 11 August 2025 02:23 (one week ago)

They won those games earlier this year, which masked a lot of issues in the offense and starting pitching.

There is still time, but I'm not feeling it this season.

, Monday, 11 August 2025 15:51 (one week ago)

this team really shouldn't be this bad but if lindor and nimmo are just going to suck, the theory of how they are supposed to score runs kinda falls apart

also pretty incredible to be running this level of payroll and not have a bonafide number 1 starter, and that part doesn't come down to non performance. they just don't have anything close to an ace. i'm not even sure they have a number 2 starter. senga hasn't thrown more than 5 innings in a month, clay holmes has been spun off his axis for even longer

i think it's possible if not likely that the bats wake back up and they start mashing teams, but i don't understand what the blueprint would be for them to win several playoff rounds w/ the current make up of their rotation. it would be basically getting 4 IP from every starter and then just hoping your bullpen can be dominant for more than half of every game, every game? idk

slob wizard (J0rdan S.), Monday, 11 August 2025 16:07 (one week ago)

Lindor has been playing injured what feels like most of the season iirc? Nimmo I have no idea what’s going on there.

I guess they’re hoping to outslug everyone else? Tbf they did get enough help in the pen that they could manage with their best starters five and diving in the playoffs

from…Peru? (gyac), Monday, 11 August 2025 16:11 (one week ago)

they bumped tong up to AAA recently i wonder if they're looking at him as a potential bullpen arm for the postseason

the prospect people seem to be loving what the mets are doing in the minors, tons of hype around benge, reimer, and williams right now. sproat sort of faltering this year and there are still ppl who seem somewhat skeptical of tong. anyway, between those guys and vientos, baty, mauricio etc it feels like they are ripe for a big trade this offseason. they need to find their garret crochet type piece -- a young frontline SP they can acquire and extend

slob wizard (J0rdan S.), Monday, 11 August 2025 16:12 (one week ago)

you mean what the dodgers did last year?

, Monday, 11 August 2025 16:19 (one week ago)

david peterson is the ace, btw (i hope i'm not jinxing him by saying that)

but yeah i think not meeting severino last year and getting montas instead was a pretty big mistake

, Monday, 11 August 2025 16:19 (one week ago)

Dodgers beat everyone in the playoffs last year with crap starters and even some full-on bullpen games without a starting pitcher. Also Senga is definitely a #1 starter, albeit with extremely unreliable health.

I think the baseball season is too long. It's impossible to give a much of a dang about losing streaks and winning streaks. It's just hope they generally play well enough to get into the playoffs and then get on a hot streak when they get there. It's completely realistic the Mets get into the playoffs and Senga/Manaea/Peterson will all be pitching lights out in the playoffs. Stanek and Helsley too.

SA, Monday, 11 August 2025 16:20 (one week ago)

Apparently the White Sox wanted Jett and Sproat for Crochet and Stearns wouldn't do it. Definitely would've been worth it.

SA, Monday, 11 August 2025 16:23 (one week ago)

the thing we hear about stearns all the time is that he doesn't believe in paying for starting pitching, at least the big long-term deals that the cream wants. i heard someone say it was because of the injury risk? not sure. would love to hear what he actually has to say about the topic. i mean you look at what happened to burnes and it makes sense

, Monday, 11 August 2025 16:29 (one week ago)

Dodgers beat everyone in the playoffs last year with crap starters and even some full-on bullpen games without a starting pitcher.

you mean what the dodgers did last year?

this isn't really true, though -- they had yamamoto and flaherty who were both better than any current mets SP. they didn't consistently pitch deep into playoff games but there was still a better baseline than david peterson and kodai senga

i'd also note that the dodgers went out and signed blake snell to a huge deal, signed sasaki, already extended glasnow at a huge number, have consistently traded for SP help at the deadline etc so i don't think that even they think that "only have your starters pitch 4 IP and put the rest on your bullpen" is an advisable strategy for winning a WS

also would caution against trying to replicate the formula that prominently includes having ohtani, freeman, and betts in your line up. the mets have some good hitters, but they aren't that good

slob wizard (J0rdan S.), Monday, 11 August 2025 16:41 (one week ago)

i mean, i don't disagree with any of that. unfortunately the mets don't have the same NPB pipeline as the dodgers do by virtue of being the first team ever to sign a npb player.

this is pure speculation but i'm also wondering whether cohen/stearns are waiting to see how this year plays out financially first. dodgers management was pretty open earlier this year in saying that despite all the luxury tax implications, they are still printing money due to the japan market and can remain super aggressive. attendance is way up at citi this year but idk if mets can catch up to the dodgers in that regard

, Monday, 11 August 2025 17:17 (one week ago)

includes having ohtani, freeman, and betts

did you know freeman has the 4th highest ops on the dodgers this year? i don't think anybody had "max muncy took a recommendation from kike hernandez to go see his hollywood eye doctor, got his astigmatism corrected and now has the third highest ops on the team behind.... will smith" on their bingo card this year.

, Monday, 11 August 2025 17:22 (one week ago)

The Mets were hoping that Senga would be healthy and pitch like two years ago, when he was a Cy Young candidate, and that Manaea would pitch like last year.

The former seems pretty reasonable - before Senga got hurt, he was pitching to a sub-2 ERA, albeit without going deep into games as they were babying him early due to how few innings he threw last year.

The latter I did not agree with. Manaea pitched great last year down the stretch, but I did not believe he would magically continue pitching much better than his baseball card at age 34.
