He's walking a good amount and not striking out much. He rates pretty well in exit velocity and barrels. I think he'll figure it out but it's definitely been rough.

I also feel there is something about coming to the NY market that is a shift. But yeah, he hasn't hit well so far. His defense has been good though.

God, just saw Pillar in the dugout tonight and cringed. Looks brutal and glad he seems ok (aside from nasal fractures).

i love lindor and even tho he's a met i still have a hard time rooting for him to fail, but his slash numbers have been pretty concerning for a bit now even dating back to last season. his SLG percentage has fallen off a cliff and if he's not providing elite power at that position he's kinda just... a high AVG/low OBP shortstop getting into his 30s... it feels pretty dicey to me longterm. they really need him to be an MVP level player for the next 4-5 years because the back half of that contract is gonna be ugly given the type of player he is

deGrom is going to do what Kluber and Donaldson looked like they might do (but almost certainly won't now): get into the HOF on an astounding peak value after the age of 27.

He still needs to play 3 more years to be eligible, and may need a Cy young / no hitter / post season heroics along the way to really seal the deal. But he is definitely on the path.

You think he needs another cy young?! He could tread water the next three years and I think he’d skate into the hall no problem.

Howie has gotten more curmudgeonly during the past couple years, but his emotional investment during a comeback or crucial game is hard to beat (aside from maybe Gary). His walk off speeches are always so satisfying.

I have no idea how they are going to replace Gary though. Gelbs has generally improved and become more professional in the booth, but I still think of him as the class clown of the TV team.

Daniel Murphy has been great every time I’ve heard him in the booth.

i've liked his player insights but have found him to be kind of dry otherwise

player insights as in, how the game is played and not insights about any particular one player

he’s starting from a good place though and can improve that aspect over time I think. I guess Wayne Randazzo is another candidate, he used to do mets radio and now does TV. Brendan Burke (regular Islanders/Nhl broadcaster) has done a couple of fill in for the mets and Yankees, and he is fantastic, so maybe he could make the switch

you know who surprised me last year, anthony recker, who filled in for pat mccarthy while he was away on pat leave for a few games. his voice isn't a classic radio voice but i liked his cadence and substance

I vaguely remember recker being decent. Wasn’t into Todd Zeile, but I also find him being the opposite of smooth-voiced.

robert has looked great! i recall you and j0rd had a back and forth in the offseason thread about whether robert could stop being so swing happy. from what i've seen he's been really patient. he's regularly spitting on the low breaking balls and has walked a ton. he follows pitches to the glove and does a little hop when they're too low. it's cute. the athletic had a piece about how him and soto are best buds. i think he's been taking lessons from juan. it's been great to see!

robert was also confident enough today to ABS challenge in a low-leverage at-bat in like the third inning. he won handily, pitch was like 1.7" below the zone.

I don’t know how you come back from that. Sure, there have been successful organizations where the biggest stars are not, as the sportswriter lingo goes, “on the same page.” The Big Red Machine won even though Pete Rose and Johnny Bench were not always on the same page. Reggie Jackson and Thurman Munson were definitely not on the same page when playing for the Bronx Zoo Yankees. You can think of other examples.

But there was a positive energy that tended to come out of the tension — Rose and Bench drove each other to be better. Munson and Jackson drove each other to be better. It does not appear that Soto and Lindor have THAT kind of relationship.
