The finest of trivial content only: Spring Training on social media

As the thread title says!

For the last couple of years, MLB teams have been publishing fluff #content of their players on their social media accounts -mainly YouTube and Instagram (other platforms, like Facebook, are available, but I don’t go there).

Last year, the Padres QOTD (“question of the day”) was so successful that several teams have ripped it off as their own. So join me on this quest to find out what YOUR 🫵🏻 favourite player:

- thinks of the big issues of the day
- does as a social media stunt
- offers as a “personality”!

The Mets, Yankees and Padres are all QOTD legends.

The Padres try to answer a riddle (ST 2023)

Which teammate would you most like not to sit next to on the team plane? (Yankees, 2024)

Who would win a dunk contest? (Blue Jays, 2024)

With everyone nicking the QOTD format, some teams try to set themselves apart.

The Mariners video where they go to In N’ Out in a golf cart and order a hundred burgers from last year? Legendary.

Mets giving two of their young players $20 and sending them to Goodwill to put an outfit together for each other? Incredible.

The Cubs record tons of content during spring training and release it on off days during the season. Such as last year’s “Who knows Dansby Swanson better - Eric Hosmer or Cody Bellinger?”

Your friend is otm, spring training games are kind of boring. I really only watch to see which prospects get put out for the later innings and ofc to watch the pitchers.

It is a little weird that not all ST hubs are the same dimensions as the mothership

Cc Shasta’s weird park dimensions thread but probably makes most sense for teams with unusual features you need to factor in, like if you’re playing left or centre field at Fenway you need to know how to play wall balls. The triangle is also there. But i know the Giants play at Scottsdale stadium which iirc wasn’t purpose built the way Fenway South was, so it hasn’t got triples alley for example.

I think they are pretty unisex nowadays. That one is a cool update because it's got more crossbody straps than the original purse design and the pattern is more geometric. Well spotted, had to zoom in to see.

I read the replies on Twitter and am informed that that’s a Pharrell x LV bag, which costs a pretty penny.

He also carries this silver one a lot, and mixes in some Goyard at times. Supposedly players across the league will tease rookies if they don’t carry expensive bags, because professional sports are just like school.

Darren Baker might have time to turn his career around but the crying is probably good practice in case Dusty heads to the Cubs.

I find it pleasingly dramatic when the college basketball cheerleaders cry and wring their hands when their teams are eliminated from the NCAA tournament. They're like the chorus in a Greek tragedy.
