That's hilarious. Just to see what would have happened, I wish whoever was up had hit one out there.

clemenza, Tuesday, 9 April 2024 17:16 (two months ago) link

The vibes are indeed good, I hope soto abuses that porch for a long time.

He looks really cool doing it

voodoo chili: before Soto had been given the "Childish Bambino" nickname, my fantasy team was named "Soto Voce"

citation needed (Steve Shasta), Wednesday, 10 April 2024 03:00 (two months ago) link

H.P.: these yankees are actually pretty likeable(!) but that is no excuse for any non-yankees fans to wish them good luck. deep down, the yankees are evil

instead, let us perhaps concentrate on it being the 20th anniversary of them becoming the only MLB team to ever blow a 3-0 lead in a best-of-7 playoff series

ty for ur understanding

mookieproof, Wednesday, 10 April 2024 03:22 (two months ago) link

I don't want to get in another row so I'll hold my opinions here for today. No promises for tomorrow.

I 100% can celebrate that anniversary though. The 23yr anniversary was my main fuel for cheering the dbacks last post-season

H.P, Wednesday, 10 April 2024 03:43 (two months ago) link

Okay I'll share just one opinion. Since following baseball I've always quietly mourned the yanks getting knocked out in the post season because: 1. 4 out of 5 of those knockouts have been from the Astros and Red Sox who are two teams I like less than the Yanks, and 2. I really want to live in this bomber jacket for 9 days straight in late October/November, just one year.

john sterling is retiring effective immediately!

sure, he was never great at actually conveying what was happening on the field, but he was a singular character, the kind they really don't make anymore and never will again. i have literally never experienced another voice of the yankees.

from new yankees play-by-play announcer harvey fierstein, of course

Michael Kay too

Yup

calstars, Tuesday, 16 April 2024 01:55 (two months ago) link

xxxp she was right to do it, especially if you can't spell suzyn

i think sterling went to some lengths to obscure his age, but according to wiki he's 85. (and waldman is 77)

i will never stop saying 'you cannot predict baseball, suzyn'

mookieproof, Tuesday, 16 April 2024 02:23 (two months ago) link

one month passes...

First time in FRANCHISE history Yankees starters have worked at least 5.0 innings and allowed two runs or fewer in 11 consecutive starts. And doing it all without Gerrit Cole.

Who's the better two-man show this year: Soto/Judge or Betts/Ohtani?

clemenza, Sunday, 2 June 2024 23:11 (two weeks ago) link

Soto & Judge are #1-2 in wRC+ (382 combined), Ohtani & Betts are #3 & #7 (349 combined).

Mrs. Ippei (Steve Shasta), Monday, 3 June 2024 02:50 (two weeks ago) link

Bums.

I was gonna make a stink about it not being a two-man show, but Freddie ain't been Freddie yet (though Will Smith continues to be the absolute man). On the two man front, it's gotta be those yanks

H.P, Monday, 3 June 2024 04:57 (two weeks ago) link

I love the end of Sotos swing. The let-go, loosey-goosey limp arms as the bat goes behind his back. Very pleasing

Monster bat flip on that homers above. Man's got style

H.P, Monday, 3 June 2024 04:59 (two weeks ago) link

he has that kind of ruben sierra followthrough but RS always seemed to sell out more whereas JS has his shoulder closed all the way to the end

but Freddie ain't been Freddie yet

freddie is hitting .296/.401/.482 and his 150 wRC+ leads all first basemen you horribly spoiled person

mookieproof, Wednesday, 5 June 2024 02:06 (one week ago) link

stroman has been great so far but his underlying numbers are not great

some of that you can attribute to 'getting ground balls' but also regression is loooooming

mookieproof, Wednesday, 12 June 2024 02:40 (six days ago) link

You're always picking on Stroman.

clemenza, Wednesday, 12 June 2024 03:46 (six days ago) link

i know : /

mookieproof, Wednesday, 12 June 2024 03:58 (six days ago) link

I really wanted them to leave him in for bases loaded tonight. Kinda bummed he got bailed out.

Also lol mookie just saw your last message. Give me a break! I just meant he couldn’t be compared to the big-two’s mentioned and his slow start was a dip in form from how he had been performing the past few years. He’s picked it up significantly since mid-may (his June has been pretty electric)

H.P, Wednesday, 12 June 2024 04:32 (six days ago) link

But yes whatever i’m horribly spoiled, but we’re posting in the yanks thread. I thought this was a safe space for spoilt children

H.P, Wednesday, 12 June 2024 04:33 (six days ago) link

More on topic:

That Dodgers-Yankees series was prime entertainment. First game was epic. Even had a tonne of fun watching the loss of the last game. Dodgers were lucky to come into town while Soto was out of the lineup, series probably would have gone to the yanks otherwise

H.P, Wednesday, 12 June 2024 04:36 (six days ago) link

there are no safe spaces for complaining that one's league-leading first baseman is vaguely disappointing!

you *are* horribly spoiled! have you ever experienced your team having a losing season?

the dodgers have won the NL West 11 of the last 12 years. (the yankees last had a losing record in 1992.)

spare me the 'i'm just an australian who weirdly happened to choose the richest team in north american sports' i mean, you can do that, but also when you suggest freddie should be better than being best in the league, you can fuck right off

mookieproof, Wednesday, 12 June 2024 04:54 (six days ago) link

i'm sure you're a man city fan too, eh?

mookieproof, Wednesday, 12 June 2024 04:57 (six days ago) link

Cool off mate, I have no interest in indulging your indignation. Keep it to yourself next time please if you can’t have a sense of humour about it

H.P, Wednesday, 12 June 2024 05:08 (six days ago) link

Also the prem team I’m a fan of is possibly the only other team that could give you a lower opinion of my sports-fandom than man city lol. You can ridicule my family affair again there too, my uncle named my female cousin after their namesake (many many years before the team was controversial bought! But I know none of that matters to you hah). I’ll give you my families email addresses for next time you want to have a go at the sports teams I like. Let’s cut out the middle man!

H.P, Wednesday, 12 June 2024 05:29 (six days ago) link

…okay, maybe i have a little interest in indulging, :\

H.P, Wednesday, 12 June 2024 05:30 (six days ago) link

mookie is right, hp should’ve been a yanks fan instead

the defenestration of prog (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 12 June 2024 11:44 (six days ago) link

reminder that it's good when your team plays badly ball and bad when your team plays goodly ball

, Wednesday, 12 June 2024 12:17 (six days ago) link

Xp nah, could never follow a team that's missed the play-offs in the last decade. Sound like losers
