Yeah it will - it coincides with the exit of the A's from the bay as well. There was a quote a month or two ago from an anonymous agent stating SF will be a huge market in the next 10 years.

“In 10 years, the Giants are going to generate more revenue than the New York Yankees,” the agent said. “They’ll have all the Bay Area, and half of the state. They’ll have their Triple-A team in Sacramento, their (Low)-A team in San Jose. They own their stadium, they’re developing around it. San Francisco, Oakland, Silicon Valley, Sacramento — the Giants are about to become the monsters of Major League Baseball.”

Quote came from a Chronicle article about the A's leaving for Sacramento, and was quoted again as part of a Brisbee article detailing how the Giants could back to contention and realize that vision.

The thing I was wondering about with that quote was the vision of the agent - was that Boras? I do wonder if he's bullish and along with Posey betting on "buying low" in the Bay. Usually you'd hear the opposite, of players or agents either using the Giants as a team to drive a price up and be non-committal.

Regardless, I do hope to see a revamped farm program. There's solid talent finally coming up, and as Grant emphasizes in his article above, it really is the way to build a sustainable winning program, and teams with those programs (along with nice locales to live in) are the ones that truly attract free agents.

I would love to know what Posey said to Chapman to get him to sign. That’s got to be their best free agent signing in ages.

The improvements in defense, baserunning and situational hitting is very real and were public goals stated by Posey when he joined.

The fact that the focus on these aspects of their play style have started off so successfully has been massive. The other unsung aspect of this team's early success so far is the bullpen, which has been absolutely stellar outside of Camilo Doval, who should probably be optioned at this point.

Overall, it's a pretty quick return to the style of play and clubhouse vibe/belief they had during the WS years, and to a lesser extent 2021 (that year was an anomaly in that like 5 dudes had career years at the same time).

Had seats on the second deck, third base side out of the sun. When I originally bought tickets I didn’t realize it was on Easter Sunday. My cousin and I had a great time.

Verlander finally pitched a good game this year but in the end, didn’t matter. We got something from the catching position, hitting wise, but was from Huff and not. Should have won but sometimes the closer doesn't have it. I blame it on the human body.

It definitely was an issue — a thoracic vertebrae disc herniation, he said. The Giants sent Murphy to receive epidural injections at an outside clinic that specializes in spinal injuries.

Nothing improved, and Murphy suspected something was off with the treatment. His concerns went unheeded, he said.

“Come to find out, after my own digging around and not feeling right about the situation and not seeing any results from the epidurals, they were actually injecting the wrong disc,” Murphy said. “So I wasn’t getting any effective treatment. Meanwhile, I’m trying to come back and force this thing to happen, assuming that the epidurals are in the right place. And I’m just like going through these repetitive bouts of aggressive, hours-long spasming, just terrible.

“And when I brought up the initial fact that I thought they were injecting the wrong disc (at the clinic), the (Giants) organization kind of thought it was pretty funny of me. But later that day, the doctor ended up calling me and saying, ‘Oh my gosh, I’ve been doing this incorrectly the whole time, blah blah blah.’”

Willy Adames is on track to be the first Giant to hit 30 home runs in a season since Bonds in 2004 (who hit 45).

What happened between then and now? Belt came close in 2021 (29 in 97 games). They just haven’t had a real bopper since Bonds, er, left. Sandoval? 25 in 2009. Huff? 26 in 2010. Pederson, Flores: 23. Buster? His high was 24 (in his MVP season!) he probably would have done 30 in a different park.

Adames has 26 now with just over a month to play. He’s always been a guy who got hot when the weather does. Devers in the lineup probably helps him too both in terms of what he gets to see and taking some of the pressure off to be the bopper in a frankly lacklustre lineup.

Adames before the trade: .201/.284/.340 with 8 home runs in 71 games
Adames after the trade: .258/.350/.513 with 18 home runs in 65 games

Devers had an incredible August: .291/.397/.592 with 9 home runs. He’s at 29 on the year (it doesn’t count cos he was traded in June).

Those 9 home runs? 6 of them came at Oracle. He has hopefully worked out how to play through his pain and he’s going to hit 30+ next year too. It took the Giants a long time to have power back in the lineup and despite the traditional second half collapse, there’s a lot to be excited about with this team. And that’s not even mentioning Heliot who’s got a couple of years to grow fully into his power.

Yeah this is fucked - I get it, if they admit fault it certainly makes a lawsuit/settlement easier to achieve, but they're going to lose this either way. They should be classy and admit fault, fire the doctor, and figure out a settlement for Murphy to just move on from this.

Each day they stay silent and avoid the inevitable it just makes them look worse.

At a minimum this isn't a situation you want future free agents and international players to notice and hesitate signing here (there's already enough aspects of the team/location/ballpark that do that)... they should consider settling this the right way a long term investment.

the hiring shitty "doctors" in sports teams at this points is utter embarrassing. i remember complete nimrods in college only being in college to party and essentially on the side get their sports health/wellness or whatever degree it was in the attempt to work for some local new england sports team they adored. god forbid they splurge and hire doctor doctors working side jobs at urgent care facilities on the side.

I take baseball way too seriously and put a lot into the Giants year after year but this year broke me. They were playing so bad it was unwatchable, to walk away is even a commitment but I did.

I started to only watch the post game show. But all the Mets have to do is win a game here and there. Then I started watching only half innings highlights but still the Mets just have to win a game here and there.

Walk off and now only a half game back?

Tonight I was out to dinner with a girlfriend and didn't really even think about tonight's game. Played on the radio the 10th inning.

They tricked me a few more times but its over. One of my worst and frustrating years

It's just a very streaky team. They seem to get hot and cold together and that's pretty rough. One of the things that defined the Buster era was his and Bum's supreme emotional zen. Never got too high or low, and that cool permeated the clubhouse. No one in this clubhouse was "cool" or a true "stopper" this year which is critical to nip losing streaks before they get too destructive. Every team goes though losing streaks (see the Dodgers just a few weeks ago), but it's how quickly you can snap out of them that defines you.

You can def throw Bochy in there too as "cool". And the Core Four. I def feel they need to revamp the bullpen, clean out the coaching staff, and figure out how to get some of that vibe back.
