on this day we put to rest John Mozeliak. how is his last name pronounced? mo-ZEAL-ee-ack. but we can no longer remember, so he became “mo”.
mo was the godfather of my second child, until one day he suddenly rescinded his godfatherhood via text, leaving me scrambling to replace him during a weekend that i had taken great care in “leaving open”. hardly — i barely slept. mike schildt was named cardinals manager the next day. i’ll leave it to you to connect the dots.
so it is with some measure of bittersweet joy that i mark the end of an era, as mo has “gone fishing” now, and magical solution chaim bloom and team of whiz kids take over. will they respect the cardinal way? will they make us angry? will convince DeWALLET to spend big and buy the lance berkman of our dreams? and who are WE? and has enough time passed that finally a nation can come together to celebrate what they have not seen in far too long, something from “the good old days”, “back when things were predictable” and “right” and “occurred with regularity” and “the cardinals won the world series”, can we finally listen to this feeling and celebrate as a nation again in a way that feels right, which is THE CARDINALS WINNING THE WORLD SERIES IN 2029 YES I CALLED IT 4 YEARS EARLY LET’S GO
