Schilling / Sox Brou-ha-ha

We'll know if he'll accept by Friday, but personally as a Yanks fan I find the prospect of CS going to Beantown pretty frickin scary. Pedro AND Schill on the same club? Damn ! There's also a lot of talk on the Yanks message board about Steinbrenner getting so mad if the Sox get Schill that he will go and get A-Rod no matter what.

Schilling has withered of late, his health is a primary concern... I can't help but think his best days are behind him... esp. bearing in mind I saw him get roughed up in person 2x at Pac Bell last season. He def. has lost some velocity and control compared to the 2000-2002 seasons.

Boston is taking a huge gamble on him, Duquette thinking this is a possible atonement for his infamous Clemens rationale.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 21:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Duquette is the owner of the Sox?

calstars (calstars), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 22:16 (twenty-one years ago)

is al hrabosky still pitching?

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 22:26 (twenty-one years ago)

It is a gamble, considering Schilling wants three years or no deal and will be 38 next year. His only won 9 of 29 starts last year, but his ERA was still pretty good (2.95).

I think if you sign him you are basically saying it is all or nothing this next season.

One thing I wonder about the Red Sox is whether this past season was just a case of a bunch of players having "their year" and it will turn to frogs next year. Can they really expect Mueller, Ortiz, Millar, Nixon and Varitek to ALL hit that well again? I don't know about that one.

earlnash, Wednesday, 26 November 2003 00:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Duquette has nothing to do with this.

Chris B. Sure (Chris V), Wednesday, 26 November 2003 15:58 (twenty-one years ago)

He is watching over you.

At least one of these guys will continue to produce.

re: Schilling's dropoff -- any weight to the theory that QUESTec skewed his numbers?

Leee Majors (Leee), Thursday, 27 November 2003 03:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't mind seeing the Red Sox having another big year. All five of those guys are solid players, but they all seemed to have career seasons at the plate.

Maddux and Schilling seemed to both get shelled early in the season when they first ran into the QUESTtec thingy. I don't know...it seems they ought to be working on leveling out the hitting some, considering some of these American Legion ball sized parks.

earlnash, Thursday, 27 November 2003 03:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I think this deal comes at a big, risky price for the Sox. Personally, I think Brandon Webb is much better investment from the Diamondbacks. Did anybody watch him pitch last year?

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 1 December 2003 23:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Getting rid of Schilling and his salary enabled the Dbacks to get Sexton. If Johnson is healthy and Webb continues to improve with their other starters, they should have enough pitching.

curt schilling is having fun

"[Running] would be fun. The whole spotlight media crap, not so much," the former major league pitcher, who helped the Boston Red Sox win the World Series in 2004 and 2007, told Boston radio station WEEI on Thursday. "But [a run] would be a lot of fun because pretty much anybody that you're fighting against in office right now doesn't really have much of a leg to stand on right now."

maybe schilling will show up to the debates with an "assassination attempt wound" bleeding through his shirt

Around 15 people showed up to Curt Schilling’s Trump rally on Saturday

Schilling was a good pitcher, but he is a total schmo. There was some interview about him getting that stupid tax break from RI saying something stupid like if I was governor "I wouldn't have given it out" but I would be a dumb businessman not to take it. He is a total shitheel.

I assume you mean the Tim Wakefield thing but let’s not forget he also retweeted some Nazi talking about the Jewish Question like two days ago.
