a quick survey: Helton for the HOF?

Assuming Todd Helton continues to (at least) put up the numbers he's put up this year for the next 5-6 years, do you think he a) will get into the HOF and b) deserves it?

He's no Castilla or Bichette, certainly, and his road stats are nothing to sneeze at. But while at home he hits like Barry Bonds with fewer walks, on the road he's merely John Olerud with a little more power. He might be the first real test of the Coors factor when it comes to deciding a HOFer.

(off topic, but holy hell, Big Hurt has 63 walks and an OBPS of 1.078 or something, and I still hear people yammering on about how he's not the player he was!)

If he continues, he deserves it; but he may be unjustly hurt by the Coors Effect rep and the wave of powerful 1Bs. Olerud + more power IS a HOFer.

OH COME ON MORB

Olerud has completely lost it, hasn't he? The guy won two batting titles and now is just a .250 singles hitter and isn't completely ancient. He must be one that didn't roid up.

Olerud's 36, so he's on the good side of "ancient". Diminished bat speed's a bitch. He's been the same hitter throughout his career - any sluggosity he had came from (A LOT OF) doubles, and even hitting a paltry .256 this year, he's still got a 100-point jump between AVG and OBP. But he's hitting like he did in 1995 (w/ a SLG kissing his OBP's buttocks), and that's the Olerud that chafed Cito Gaston's dish.
