Cubs pick up LaTroy Hawkins and strengthen the pen dramatically.

2003 numbers:

75 strikeouts in 77 innings.
1.86 ERA
Opponents batted .239 against him.

Supposedly, he passed up more money to play here. Is this a first? Hawkins said Baker was the main draw. A friend says: "Add a healthy Guzman, and this staff will be silly good . . . the best in Cubs history."

Hendry would appear to be on fire.

Someone tell me what I need to know about LaTroy.

two months pass...

latroy was a streaky starter who has developed into a dependable setup/middle reliever. i believe he was signed as insurance in case joe borowski reverts back to joe borowski.

was the star setup man for my fantasy team last year, therefore he has earned a spot in my heart.
