have all major deals been done? nomar to the cubbies?

what say you, prognosticators?

(from the o's perspective: it looks like the acquisition the deadline will see the departure of hairston or roberts, bigbie or matos and probably gibbons...MAYBE b.j. ryan...supposedly, magglio ordonez is target number #1 for the offseason)

Billy Beane is trying to get his hands on BJ Ryan.

See Gammons on SportsCenter? Of the most speculated-on, he seems to think only Kris Benson is sure to go, Johnson is up in the air (but likely to stay), and it's "95%" that Nomar remains in Boston.

However, Pete has always seemed regularly wrong on trade predictions, in my observation.

benson to the mets - possibly for wigginton & minor leaguer is the rumour.

I think the Cubs are interested in BJ Ryan as well, among other relievers. I keep waiting for the announcement that the Cubs have traded for Orlando Cabrera, a shortstop whose VORP is worse than Rey Ordonez's.

don't forgetta bout beltran. and there are sometimes a name or two that jump out at the last minute. delgado still might waive his no trade.

magglio, eh? glad the o's are finally looking to improve that pitching!

cabrera seems overrated (road ops from 01-03, .717), but he's supposedly great with the glove. not exactly what the cubbies need, i know..

for a ptbnl or $

The Mariners and Padres weren't able to settle on a specific minor leaguer to head Seattle's way, but there are several names that have been kicked around. The Mariners will scout those players the rest of the year and the two sides will strike a deal -- or the Padres will send a chunk of cash back Seattle's way.

re: o's pitching

yeah, uhhh...

so much depends on fat sidney. cabrera, bedard and lopez all have sub 4 era's. if fat sidney could even keep his era consistently sub 5 down the stretch, that could amount to a decent turnaround in wins vs. losses...though, the inability to hit lefties is a bit mystifying. the return of mora and segui (don't laugh) ought to help.

respectfully submitted,

the battered fan

cabrera's been mighty fine of late.

I have it from a good source that the Giants are in frontrunners in the Nomah sweepstakes. Nomah + Mueller of course.
