Interesting note on the effects of Personal Training on Pro Athletes

I know Bonds is under a lot of heat for his ties to BALCO, but what a lot of people don't know is that Bonds (and his invitees Gary Sheffield and Eric Young) spends his whole offseason working out and training down at Stanford University (Palo Alto, CA)... working with this very sophisticated machine that is basically a very specialized resistance training apparatus that isolates and emphasizes development of the muscles most closely aligned with batswing.

Bonds' stretching trainer Harvey Shields (not to be confused with his good friend/nutritional trainer Greg Anderson) is quoted in the above article:

Shields ultimately made his pitch to an intermediary, starting out by saying, "A lot of people think it's the weightlifting that helps Barry hit the homers, but it's really the stretching."

five months pass...
so Shields was banned by MLB from entering the Giants clubhouse until this past weekend and Barry has returned to hitting longballs. I was at the game last night and he is seeing the ball very well and making very good contact.
