Looks like he doesn't want to stick around for the end of this awful season with the M's.

Anyway, one of the best hitters I've ever seen, awesome player.

okay well ESPN was wrong the first time around, they originally said his retirement was effective immediately.

There are not many right handed hitters that ever hit over .350 for a season, Edgar is one of them.

Martinez won two batting titles.

He had a good career, all of it with Seattle.

The Wade Boggs of the 90's -- you could always count on the sun rising in the east, and Edgar hitting .340+

Edgar just OWNS Mariano Rivera, and has been Yankee-killer No. 1 for years. John Sterling's call on a game-ender several seasons ago is imprinted in my memory bank: "...and the Yankees lose another one on another big hit by the GREAT Edgar Martinez!"
