Perusing an article on some Giants prospects, a couple gems:

Spider Martin
Jon Coutlangus

Apparently, John P. Bonser officially changed his name to Boof.

And a Braves prospect: Jarrod Saltalamachira

Firpo Marberry, but I was so disappointed to find that he was nicknamed after the '20s boxer named Firpo.

In the '70 Montreal briefly had an outfielder, Bombo Rivera. And a semi-regular catcher, John Boccabella.

more catchers:

Biff Pocoroba
Choo Choo Coleman
Duffy Dyer

With a single and a laserbeam double against future Hall-of-Famer Greg Maddux, I was set to welcome Terrmel Sledge to the page, but I see that gygax beat me to it. kicks dirtclod

Great recent adds:

Biff Pocoroba
(De)Chone Figgins
Dick Pole
Boog Powell
Gookie Dawkins
Rusty Kuntz (certainly Top 10)

Something tells me Stubby Clapp and Jon Coutlangus have spent some time together . . . rimshot.

On a semi-related baseball note, I recently sat in the new-this-year Dugout Box seats right behind home plate at Wrigley, priced at $250 per. I "won" them in the lottery (IPO). The Cubs were playing the Pirates and before the game, Rusty Kuntz was playing catch with Craig Wilson, who skied one over Rusty's head. The ball hit the wall right in front of us, and as Rusty came to retrieve it, he saw my daughter (age 12) and asked her something like, "Are these seats as good as they look?" And my daughter answered in the affirmative of course and blushed a bit and he smiled and it was practically a "precious baseball moment . . ." As he turned and walked away, my daughter squinted and eyed his jersey and asked, "Who was that?"

And there was a long pause even before I started trying to remember if that u is an "oo" or an "uhh." I went, finally, with the former.

Maddux is great tonight.
