So is Wagner going to lose choke now he's a Phillie?

L(E^24) (Leee), Sunday, 9 November 2003 23:02 (twenty-two years ago)

It couldn't be any worse than Mitch Williams. Even when Williams got a save, he would about give the fans a coronary almost letting the game slip through his fingers.

The Phillies are going to need a starter or maybe two if Millwood vacates to the NYY.

7 time all star shortstop kaz "little" matsui of the seibu lions is coming to MLB:

My friend's little brother is a HUGE Seibu Lions fan. He gave me a Seibu hat as a going away present.

At least going from an article about Kaz Matsui, the guy isn't very big and you have to wonder how much his hitting would suffer playing in the US.

Godzilla Matsui became more of a contact hitter in the US and he was their best current home run hitter.

I found some site about Japanese Baseball looking for some background on Kaz Matsui and there is this 1B from Venezuela named Alex Cabrera who has averaged over 50 HR's in Japan for the past three years. After double checking, it looks like he once played for the Diamondbacks.

earlnash, Tuesday, 18 November 2003 02:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I think Kaz's game would be much more in line w/ Ichiro rather than Hideki, since I've read that Ichiro sez that Kaz is even faster than he is. My guess is lots of infield singles plus a buttload of doubles.

Leee Majors (Leee), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 07:14 (twenty-two years ago)

this definitely qualifies as an offseason shenanigan

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 17:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Curt Schilling a new member of the Red Sox?

I think it is a much better idea than going after A-Rod.

Schilling/Pedro/Derek Lowe...that is a pretty good starting three.

earlnash, Tuesday, 25 November 2003 19:22 (twenty-two years ago)

neifi perez bat... folx, a chance like this does not come around often enough!

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 25 November 2003 22:56 (twenty-two years ago)

It looks like Armando Benitez won it.

Aaron Boone tears ACL playing basketball, possibly out for complete 2004 season

He agreed Dec. 1 to a $5.75 million, one-year contract, and the contract contained language saying it would become nonguaranteed if he played basketball.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 00:01 (twenty-two years ago)

so who will replace boone then (if he's going to be out all season)¿

dyson (dyson), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 18:08 (twenty-two years ago)

billy beane was one of the first to call up the yankees trolling for some prime trade action for Eric Chavez... but no dice.

supposedly the yanks are talking to the giants about alfonzo... but that's mere rumor.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 19:47 (twenty-two years ago)

were it anyother team i'd say that a platoon between enrique wilson, miguel cairo and/or tyler houston is most likely. but this is the yanks. what we need now is for giambi to take up basketball. or perhaps shark wrestling¡

dyson (dyson), Thursday, 29 January 2004 02:39 (twenty-two years ago)

dyson, the atlanta journal-constitution is reporting that Gary Sheffield asked Cashman that he is available at 3rd (he was a SS in Milwaukee as a rookie in '88 and he played 3B fulltime with San Diego in '92).

best (offensive) infield ever?

1B Giambi
2B Soriano
SS Jeter
3B Sheffield

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 29 January 2004 17:30 (twenty-two years ago)

they're not going to let sheff play 3rd, tho.
i read they asked zelie (sp¿) if he'd come back and he said "nofuckingway"¡

dyson (dyson), Thursday, 29 January 2004 18:54 (twenty-two years ago)

That potential NYY infield is a nightmare for pitchers. Sheffield had a pretty errant arm as an infielder, Soriano is a nightmare and some have been saying move him to the outfield, Giambi has been a DH since he was a Yankee and scouts have been saying that Jeters range is really going down and he should be moved to third.

Moving Jeter to third and bringing back up that rookie that stepped in for him when he got hurt last year may be an option.

It is going to be hard to get a vet to put up with playing in the zoo. Whatever good vibe that Torre had when they first started winning has faded away and many players just don't want the headaches of playing for Steinbrenner and the NY press.

earlnash, Thursday, 29 January 2004 22:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Best Infield Ever?

70s Reds: (Four hall of famers and perhaps the best ss of the 70s.)
1b- Perez
2b- Morgan
ss- Concepcion
3b- Rose
C- Bench

earlnash, Thursday, 29 January 2004 22:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Well you get the point about Rose...he WOULD be a hall of famer as a player. BUUUTTTTT NOOOO, he had to bet on baseball.

earlnash, Thursday, 29 January 2004 22:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I think this counts as off-season shenanigans.

Leee Majors (Leee), Friday, 30 January 2004 23:48 (twenty-two years ago)

You know, I believe thought that Billy Beane was the same guy as Billy Bean the player.

Appearantly not.

I think G! thinks H! is talking about ILBB, while H! is actually talking about / flaunting his job @ MLB.com

"flaunting"

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 31 March 2005 19:14 (twenty years ago)

In that case, let me know if you are interested in the position, the only qualifications are:

1) drama free
2) no problems with fairness or objectivity
3) good organization skills
4) intensely bored but not boring
5) iron spatula, etc.
