Vlad's Boys vs The Team That Finally Learned How to Share Their Cabs ...

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 16:37 (twenty-one years ago)

ack, I messed up the title here too ... should be ALDS.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 16:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I like the notion presented by the media of the Red Sox as a bunch of shaggy, boisterous, eccentric party boys that don't actually party. Though, really, the "OMG THE HAIR" meme died in June - y'all still hung up on this are diddling a corpse.

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 17:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd have subtitled = COWBOYS UP vs. THE RALLY MONKEYS

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 17:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I like that one better. But I just had to play on the "25 guys, 25 cabs" -> cave man comaraderie too.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 17:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Too bad Speizio isn't an Angel anymore - it could've been DROPKICK MURPHYS v. SANDFROG

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 17:05 (twenty-one years ago)

here's to hoping pete can give them 7 strong innings tonight. they're going to need the bullpen for wake and/or arroyo's start(s). the boston globe had a piece today about how the game this evening has all the earmarks of petey special. lost his last 4 of the regular season, didn't start game 1 of the playoffs, final year of a contract, and looking to silence some critics. he also hit 96 on the gun in his last start against the devil rays for the first time all year. the best of whatever he has left should be on display tonight.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 18:34 (twenty-one years ago)

"here's to hoping pete can give them 7 strong innings tonight."

and here's to hoping he CAN'T, BITCH

John (jdahlem), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 21:55 (twenty-one years ago)

wow that was really necessary.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 22:12 (twenty-one years ago)

i believe "essential" would be more precise

bitch.

John (jdahlem), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 22:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Of all the rolling threads, this is my favorite.

mattbot (mattbot), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 22:39 (twenty-one years ago)

A pregame survey: which Bosox hat would you get if you won your other fantasy baseball league and came into a little money as a result?

mattbot (mattbot), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 22:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Aw, John's just (rightfully) upset because the first 11 innings of the Yankees / Twins series haven't seen much worthy pinstripery (excepting Jeter's REGGIE! impersonation in the 1st inning tonight).

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 22:42 (twenty-one years ago)

By the way, I'm officially asking John to "play nice" by not calling kt or hstencil "bitch". I don't really want to police this board this way, but I don't think it's something that I want to see profilerate.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 22:59 (twenty-one years ago)

How exactly did Colon win 18 games with that ERA? Did he lead the league in Run Support?

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 7 October 2004 00:05 (twenty-one years ago)

He could've been the AL's Shawn Estes.

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 7 October 2004 00:20 (twenty-one years ago)

gygax and whoever else, sorry? i honestly thought that was totally harmless and i wasn't actually angry or anything but ok i'll stop.

bitches.

John (jdahlem), Thursday, 7 October 2004 01:21 (twenty-one years ago)

they showed a stat on espn and colon was actually pretty good in the second half, 3.65 era in his last 17 starts.

John (jdahlem), Thursday, 7 October 2004 01:22 (twenty-one years ago)

"Eclair"?

Baked Bean Teeth (Baked Bean Teeth), Thursday, 7 October 2004 01:27 (twenty-one years ago)

How does one manage to get picked off of second with the bases loaded by the CATCHER?

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 7 October 2004 02:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Bellhorn had one of those long juicy "derrrrrrrrrrrr" brainfarts as the throw went into 2nd.

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 7 October 2004 02:32 (twenty-one years ago)

How did that smarmy-looking kid get such a good seat to the game ... never mind, it's Theo Epstein.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 7 October 2004 02:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Sweet crap the Red Sox caught a bit of the Twinitis.

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 7 October 2004 03:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, because when the Red Sox choke the first thing that comes to mind is "how Twins-like"

alfalfa romeo (natepatrin), Thursday, 7 October 2004 03:06 (twenty-one years ago)

:)

Varitek made contact!!!

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 7 October 2004 03:11 (twenty-one years ago)

This announce team sucks hairy, sweaty, monkey balls.
They wouldn't shut up about the bunting, saying "you gotta execute". Then Boston scores a bunch more runs and it's "they've scored 17 runs in the series, what an offense, the best in the majors". WHICH IS IT?
REALLY sloppy work behind the plate for the Angels tonight.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 7 October 2004 04:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Rally monkey just choked.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 7 October 2004 05:02 (twenty-one years ago)

YEAH ANAHEIM FAGTOGS EAT MY MONKEY!

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Thursday, 7 October 2004 09:53 (twenty-one years ago)

The Red Sox didn't exactly impress w/ their "little things" acumen tonight, but ye gods! the Angels w/ the passed balls & the boots - they ain't lookin' so hot.

And sweet shit Sutcliffe don't pop a hemmorhoid if Pedro goes over that magic 100 pitch plateau. "What are they doing?" you ask - I'm hoping your dumb dead ass was watching the Yankee / Twin feed when you said that, Scruffy. And my god THE HAIR! Berman's working some Freudian envy up to a thick creamy lather w/ that nonsense.

And, really, I could do w/out this bunting nonsense, especially w/ two strikes ORNALDO. It's a good thing he hit that 3-run trip-double in the 9th; otherwise, I wouldn't like him anymore.

I really hope Arroyo pitches Game 3.

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 7 October 2004 12:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Being subjected to Berman-Sutcliffe must be a violation of the Declaration of Human Rights. I switched to radio for Buck Martinez and Whoever (once the friggin' NY affiliate picked it up).

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 7 October 2004 12:45 (twenty-one years ago)

mattbot- i would get hat a. i used to own a hat c model but that was in the '70's when that was the hat they wore.

john- good game last night, eh biz-nitchy? now as long as death wish arroyo (by the way, is his current coif an homage to allen iverson or bo derek?) can give a solid 5 innings the bosox should have the series wrapped up by the weekend.

bring on the twins.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Thursday, 7 October 2004 13:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Re the AL's Mr Lucky, from Nate Silver's BP column today:
Colon is the first pitcher to win 18+ games with an ERA of 5.00 or higher since Bobo Newsom went 20-16 with a 5.08 ERA for the 1938 St. Louis Browns.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 7 October 2004 13:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I switched to radio for Buck Martinez and Whoever...

Whoever hardly gets a word in edgewise. Once he finishes calling the play, Buck starts up and goes solid till the next pitch is released. He's not too bad, though, even if he does sound drunk.

Love those cornrows, Bronson...

Rock Hardy (Rock Hardy), Friday, 8 October 2004 19:19 (twenty-one years ago)

You bet your ass you love those cornrows!

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 8 October 2004 20:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Pitch counts:

Arroyo (through 3): 41
Escobar (through 2): 47

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 8 October 2004 20:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry - Escobar has 45. I'll get my coat.

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 8 October 2004 20:03 (twenty-one years ago)

PS - WOOOOO!

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 8 October 2004 20:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm going to have cornrows tattooed on my big bald head.

Rock Hardy (Rock Hardy), Friday, 8 October 2004 21:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Say, where is that IDIOT who was all over the Angels jock anyway?

Roy Williams Highlight (diamond), Friday, 8 October 2004 21:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Who Vlad Guerrero?

With the grand salami (2nd postseason hit).

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 8 October 2004 21:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Heh... that's just Vlad bein' Vlad.

Rock Hardy (Rock Hardy), Friday, 8 October 2004 21:55 (twenty-one years ago)

OMGWTFLOL!@&@^$#*#&^$

What a stud. It's great to finally be able to watch this guy in the post-season, doing things like that. Amazing.

Roy Williams Highlight (diamond), Friday, 8 October 2004 21:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd never heard a stadium full of people really, actually, go completely silent before.

Rock Hardy (Rock Hardy), Friday, 8 October 2004 21:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Clearly I WOOOOOO'd too soon.

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 8 October 2004 21:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, that was bizarre. and Berman actually, shockingly, amazingly kept his fat yap shut while Vlad rounded the bases, rendering the silence that much starker.

Roy Williams Highlight (diamond), Friday, 8 October 2004 22:01 (twenty-one years ago)

someone convince me that henry isn't paying off glaus, figgins, and the motherfucking ump!

John (jdahlem), Friday, 8 October 2004 22:51 (twenty-one years ago)

How about a drink instead?

I SWEAR TO GOD Sutcliffe just made a good point about Varitek setting up a pitch for Foulke against Garrett Anderson.

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 8 October 2004 22:55 (twenty-one years ago)

OMG I HEARD IT TOO I DON'T BELIEVE IT!

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Friday, 8 October 2004 22:57 (twenty-one years ago)

But then he claims that Johnny Damon is an underappreciated defensive outfielder, which is WHA?

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 8 October 2004 23:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Seeing him out there falling to the ground to catch balls, I really miss Mientkiewicz.

Eric H. (Eric H.), Friday, 8 October 2004 23:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Nice. Nice. Nice.

Eric H. (Eric H.), Friday, 8 October 2004 23:20 (twenty-one years ago)

aren't you a twins fan, and do you have a deathwish?

[JUST TO BE PERFECTLY CLEAR i am not threatening to kill anyone, just saying the sox are clearly the best team in baseball and by all appearances they're going to steamroll whomever they face in the ALCS]

John (jdahlem), Friday, 8 October 2004 23:24 (twenty-one years ago)

And now that the outcome is in the books - WOOOOOOOOOOOO!

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 8 October 2004 23:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Wow. Would've went to Percy myself. If, you know, you HAD to make a move. Washburn is a joke. He's got nothing except a left hand. Good luck getting that big payday.

But I'm not gonna second guess Scioscia. He didn't boot the ball all over the field or fail to put a ball in the air with the bases jacked.

Roy Williams Highlight (diamond), Friday, 8 October 2004 23:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I haven't been paying 100% attention the last few weeks...does Chone Figgins have Steve Sax Disease? They were hinting at that tonight.

(Formerly Rock Hardy)

You've Got to Pick Up Every Stitch (tracerhand), Saturday, 9 October 2004 02:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Roy Williams Highlight (diamond), Saturday, 9 October 2004 02:14 (twenty-one years ago)

whoa what a great game. Good move to leave Ortiz in!

Ha Ha!

William Crump (Rock Hardy), Saturday, 9 October 2004 14:27 (twenty-one years ago)

That's Nelson. He was a good luck charm, then a bad luck charm, and I guess he's a good luck charm again. I don't trust the Nelson fairy dust, but I really don't trust Millar. In the movie version he'd be the one due for a major lapse. He's the one who would bite it, the "Goose" if you will.
