besides the memories of the series stopping, and stories from my cousins living just south of sf at the time, i remember that it snowed that day in indiana. it's remained in my memory ever since as the earliest fall snowfall i've experienced.

i have a friend (who is insane) who's a big baseball fan. he's from neptune, nj and his dad's name is Bub. he's a mets fan and once swore to raise his children to be lefthanded-hitting catchers, as that was the best path to the big leagues.

he lived in berkeley in '89 and had tickets to the series on both sides of the bay. but his girlfriend, at harvard, said that if he didn't come visit over fall break they would be finished.

so he went to boston. and they were finished anyway. but this guy is a bit of a freak--he somehow believes that he is destined to become king of the world. anton rex. so he remains bitter to this day that he wasn't in sf all those years ago, because he's convinced he would have been a hero and thus been that much closer to becoming king of the world.

amen.

yeah I had forgotten that the series was put on hold for ten days. so crazy, so crazy........the giants playing the a's in the world series for the first time, and 30 minutes before the start of game three at candlestick, there's a fucking devastating earthquake.......again truth is stranger than fiction.

I just remember having the tv on for the pre-game, keeping an eye on it while doing something else, then the next time I check it, they're showing an episode of rosanne!
