OTOH, he says "I expect to win, not rebuild." I hope that's bravado, or AZ plans to spend $200 million.

Good thing he didn't get hired by Notre Dame.

Doc, who do you want to see get the Mets job?
― Earl Nash (earlnash), Wednesday, 3 November 2004 18:47 (twenty-one years ago)
I'm a lot more worried about Minaya and his alleged fondness for "athleticism" (ie, 5-tool players like Billy Beane).

mariners: mike hargrovedbacks: wally backmanphillies: charlie manuelmets: randolph
and both the jays and astros made their interim managers full managers.

Dusty Baker is now indisputably the reigning Managerial Asshat of MLB. Where's the award for THAT?

honestly not sure i've ever seen a new manager hired on a one-year contract
https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/46689552/kurt-suzuki-thrilled-angels-manager-born-do-this
but i suppose that's what's to be expected with a garbage organization hiring its sixth manager in eight seasons, and hey at least he's a MAGA guy
― mookieproof, Thursday, 23 October 2025 04:59 (two months ago)
it's been suggested that arte moreno simply didn't want to have to pay his manager during the inevitable lockout
lol

Suzuki is from a rural town (pop 17k) in Maui, actually the same town as Shane Victorino. They went to rival high schools (pub vs. private) but were 3 years apart.
That said, some parts of rural Hawaii can be incredibly conservative/religious, moreso than you might imagine.

twins hire derek shelton, who had a .410 winning percentage over 5+ seasons with the pirates
i don't necessarily blame shelton for the abject failure of the pirates during his tenure . . . but also that's a pretty clear signal that twins fans should have no expectations whatsoever
no doubt he'll be replaced by a different former catcher in 2028
