I used to like "Bases Loaded" on Nintendo! But now I only really play hockey games on ps2.

that bases loaded game made me hate all sports games up until this point. IT FUCKING CHEATED. you'd be up like 10-0 and then in the 8th or 9th the computer would go on this homerun binge and kick the crap out of you. too much for my 10 year old self to handle gracefully.

I used to play "RBI baseball" back when I spent most of my free time in arcades ... once time I made it all the way to the 6th inning on one quarter.

two weeks pass...
SNK Baseball Stars for NES was the best console baseball game ever. Stat tracking back in the day, you could create your team, develop your talent, all that.

I thought this was pretty interesting. Is it true that a lefty hasn't played shortstop in a major league game in over a century?

yeah the throwing angles are fucked up. thats why theres no lefty catchers with a few exceptions

not quite the right thread but . . . it is a belief of mine, based on no evidence, that 70 years of having the outfield camera on the left-field side of center -- such that pitches move from left to right on your television screen -- have significantly overstated the advantage that left-handed pitchers have against left-handed hitters. *of course* it looks impossible when randy johnson is releasing the ball from off the screen.

several MLB parks now show a straight-on view, which i salute

thanks to the crappiness of the minors (this is a new ballpark, too), we now have examples of the opposite view -- a righty against a righty from the right-field side. i'm not exactly sure it bolsters my theory, but it's fuckin weird to watch

ps there is *no* good reason there are no lefty catchers mayor j

The best reason I've heard (and I still don't quite buy it) is that anybody who throws left-handed and has a strong enough arm to play catcher gets turned into a pitcher right away

Anecdotal obviously but as L/L, dreaded facing LHPs (in part because it was less common) and loved facing same-handed hitters (especially with a curve).

Bought a left-handed catcher's mitt around 11/12 and occasionally caught until high school. Don't recall having any trouble, but it was only Little League/Senior League/Koufax.

In a tournament, once threw a complete game then caught one immediately afterward. Today's players ain't shit (kidding).
