FREE D'ANGELO JIMENEZ!

The dude's bonafide - has speed, has some pop, has patience at the plate, has the Yankee prospect pedigree (from back when that meant something). Ryan Freel is an Eckstein in training - stop giving his white hustle ass PT over a guy that can actually, y'know, help your damn team win those 10-8 pitching duels.

FREE GRADY SIZEMORE!

If The Wedge wants to spot-start Jose Hernandez all over the dingdongin' place in the infield, whatever. Why you'd want JH in the OUTFIELD (a place he doesn't go too often), instead of seeing what a highly-touted kid can do for you, I don't know. Casey Blake = meh. Coco Crisp = meh plus (but only because of his name). Juan Gone = super meh (& right where he belongs, on the DL). Grady Sizemore (& Ryan Ludwick) = THE FUTURE. RECOGNIZE, TURKEYS. & please to stick the Veteran Leadership in the time capsule with the pogs, the Lark Voorhees poster, and the Browns Bernie Kosar jersey.

You wanna talk Reds' jail, try this one

FREE WILY MO PENA!!!

Dude is cock-blocked in the Cincy outfield; he's played two games and hit home runs in each of them!

Haikunym (Haikunym), Monday, 11 April 2005 16:09 (twenty years ago)

I've been in Happy Fun Time Land, nym. If it's not Freel, then who the hell is taking PT away from D'Angelo, then? He's not started 2 games already - that's pretty sketchy, if you ask me.

Ha - Wily Mo will be free(l)d once Griffey and/or Kearns visits the Black Cat Ladder Factory.

FREE david newhan!

i dunno, seems to me when you have a supersub that plays all outfield spots, all infield except ss, has speed and gets on base, you find a way to get him games. not like the o's are having trouble scoring runs, but still...

jonathan quayle higgins (j.q. higgins), Monday, 11 April 2005 16:27 (twenty years ago)

The problem, tho (as the O's stand right now) (& as you note), is who to bench. The guys I'd probably want pining would be either Gibbons or Palmeiro (because I hate old people). And since Gibbons will probably get wanged w/ something or other, Newhan might get his PT soon enough.

FREE XAVIER NADY! Leads MLB in HRs and Bochy insists that DL-resident Dave Roberts is "the man".

FREE JACK CUST! The A's have him at AAA, yes?

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Monday, 11 April 2005 17:31 (twenty years ago)

FREE marcus thames!

(corollary to higginson kick the bucket post)

jonathan quayle higgins (j.q. higgins), Monday, 11 April 2005 17:46 (twenty years ago)

Mr. Nady is definitely a primo FREE ME candidate, though I think it'd behoove the Pads to try & turn Klesko into someone else's three-toed sloth (for some pen / bench help). Dunno about Nady's defensive prowess, but having Roberts out there to compensate for Giles' supposed lack of range might be the way to go.

(BTW, I'm still lovin' that Theo E. turned Roberts' mad dash for 2nd in the ALCS into a solid back-up OF AND a nice utility guy.)

jonathan quayle higgins (j.q. higgins), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 12:33 (twenty years ago)

do you not remember THE FALL?

'Last Saturday's Yankees-Orioles game ended when Jack Cust, caught in a rundown off third, evaded his pursuers and dashed for an unguarded home plate -- only to fall and be tagged out by Aaron Boone.'

maura (maura), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 12:41 (twenty years ago)

yeah...but there have been so many embarassing moments in recent o's history that it's difficult to keep 'em all straight.

ugh.

Apr 18 The Cincinnati Enquirer's Kevin Kelly reports Cincinnati Reds OF Wily Mo Pena blasted the second longest home run in Great American Ballpark history Sunday, April 17. Pena's three-run homer off Houston Astros SP Brandon Duckworth traveled an estimated 498 feet.

Apr 21 Deciding to give Ken Griffey the day off, the Cincinnati Reds used Pena in center field for Wednesday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The move payed off, as the outfielder went 2-for-4 and belted two home runs. He hit a solo homer to left-center in the fourth inning before connecting for a two-run shot in the seventh.
Advice: Pena has hit safely in five consecutive contests. For the season, he is batting .353 with five home runs and 10 RBI in just 34 at-bats. If he continues to produce those types of numbers, it will be hard to keep him out of the lineup. Pena will split time in right with Austin Kearns and will get the nod in center when Griffey needs a rest.

The best way to FREE WILY MO - TRADE SEAN CASEY! Move Dunn to 1B, move Griffey to LF, & everyone gets the playing time!

FREE BJ UPTON!

Seeing what the crappy Alex Gonzalez can do at 3B instead of seeing what BJ Upton can do @ SS or 2B (w/ Cantu or Lugo moving where needed) is the sort of short-minded goose turdery that makes me happy my team gets to whup up on these asshats 19 times a year.

The funny part: TH did this IN COLORADO AGAINST SHAWN ESTES.

David R. (popshots75`), Sunday, 15 May 2005 19:17 (twenty years ago)

I stand behind the Free Chase! movement. Another taco today gives him 7 on the year in just over 90 ABs. My for-money fantasy team is tired of seeing him benched.

Meanwhile, Dusty Baker has chosen, almost inexplicably, to free everyone. Ronnie Cedano at SS, DuBois full time in LF. Now with Zambrano injured and the season quickly going down the toilet, it's only a matter of time before he has the next set of Cubs pitching prospects to ruin free.

mattbot (mattbot), Sunday, 15 May 2005 19:21 (twenty years ago)

seriously.

i think the only reason chase has been relatively free lately is b/c of injuries to rollins & thome. i wish polanco were free a byrd.

jonathan quayle higgins (j.q. higgins), Sunday, 15 May 2005 21:17 (twenty years ago)

For the love of God, free Wiki Gonzalez. He can't possibly be worse than Miguel Olivo, can he?

Daniel Cohen (dayan), Monday, 16 May 2005 02:10 (twenty years ago)

MO went yard today, tho! He must've borrowed Wiki's jock!

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 16 May 2005 02:55 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, posting that the day Olivo raises his batting average thirty points probably isn't the best case for freeing Wiki, even if homering off Wakefield is the going-yard equivalent of kissing your sister.

Still! Olivo's Stats Inc. profile refers to him as "a bit of a free swinger," which is a little like saying that Milton Bradley's a nice guy once you get to know him.

Daniel Cohen (dayan), Monday, 16 May 2005 03:12 (twenty years ago)

Dude, whatever, man! Hitting a knuckleball out is like kissing your really hot cousin, or something! Yeah incest! Family fun! 700 Club! (Sure!)

Also, since Wiki tweaked his wigwam (or something) last game, it looks like MO is the one to go to for all your rally-killing and groundout needs for the forseeable future.
