Certifiable, dudes. Awesome.

hstencil (hstencil), Saturday, 16 April 2005 22:40 (twenty years ago)

seriously, great game.

hstencil (hstencil), Saturday, 16 April 2005 23:35 (twenty years ago)

yeah. dude's on fire.

though it seems like this year's roster is designed to kill yanquis. chen & rodrigo lopez also have good numbers against the yanks dating back to last year, at least.

but seriously...3 triples? wow.

jonathan quayle higgins (j.q. higgins), Monday, 18 April 2005 13:34 (twenty years ago)

I think the dude's dipped into the Melvin Mora Big League Chew. Either that, or Hairston was his kryptonite.

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 18 April 2005 13:38 (twenty years ago)

seriously, how the hell does a guy who hit 12 home runs in 1500 career abs start the season with 5 in 50? is there a precedent for that kind of power shift at 27?

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 18 April 2005 13:41 (twenty years ago)

mel mora or bradley anderson (and i say bradley in homage to hof-er/former color man brooks robinson)?

but i'm kind of suprised that tejada's getting the short shrift w/ all the brian roberts blues explosion/mel mora slump & resurgence talk. he's had rbi in NINE straight games and is now up to 18!

re: roberts

i also must declare his .534 obp to be totally awesome.

jonathan quayle higgins (j.q. higgins), Monday, 18 April 2005 13:44 (twenty years ago)

Well, it's a small sample size, so it's not THAT strange for such fluking to happen. See: almost any big boppin' rookie getting his feet wet in mid-August. The thing is, I don't think he hit for power in the minors, either - not HR power, anyway; maybe he had gap power - so this spike is unprecedented.

&, of course, if this were happening in July or August, it wouldn't be such a thing - doing it in April, & entering Week 3 of the season as the runner-up in the AL HR derby, though, brings out the gawkers.

Can anyone check to see if he's getting off-field instruction from Brady Anderson?

[xpostie!]

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 18 April 2005 13:49 (twenty years ago)

that ball off Flash he hit on Saturday was crushed, too.

also: 17-game hitting streak, 15 RBI already leading off

mookieproof (mookieproof), Monday, 18 April 2005 15:11 (twenty years ago)

again...

.534 OBP!!!

though his slg. is pretty obscene, too...like .800something, i believe.

jonathan quayle higgins (j.q. higgins), Monday, 18 April 2005 15:31 (twenty years ago)

Tejada's had 2 grand slams.... in the past 4 days!

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 18 April 2005 17:24 (twenty years ago)

hasn't michael tucker also hit a couple grand slams in the last week or so?

jonathan quayle higgins (j.q. higgins), Monday, 18 April 2005 17:30 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, Brian Roberts is the new David Newhan!

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Monday, 18 April 2005 18:19 (twenty years ago)

you guys hate the toy cannon too?

Yeah but the Giants have been playing Colorado. :-\

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 18 April 2005 19:12 (twenty years ago)

three run home run against nate robertson!

stop the insanity!

jonathan quayle higgins (j.q. higgins), Tuesday, 19 April 2005 22:45 (twenty years ago)

The guy did hit 50 doubles last year, maybe a few of them we "off-the-wall" shots that this year (via bulking up or an adjustment or two) are going over the fence. Also, he walks a fair amount! 71 BB last year. Are the O's a $ball team too?

Gear! (can Jung shill it, Mu?) (Gear!), Tuesday, 19 April 2005 23:01 (twenty years ago)

no, you're right on roberts. it's not like he was just a spray hitter and his knack for eb hits has appeared out of nowhere. i have seen some of his homers, though, and they are impressive...not of the variety that just barely clears the fence. apparently he spent the off season training at some sports fitness center in az. can't recall the name. it's kind of funny that he's always gotten the eckstein comparisons b/c he's small and "he plays the game the right the way," but i don't recall eckstein ever doing anything like this.

i'm pretty sure o's are not a moneyball team. they're big on psych tests and the "oriole way"

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 19 April 2005 23:14 (twenty years ago)

ha! too right!

the brady anderson center for awesome sideburns.

jonathan quayle higgins (j.q. higgins), Tuesday, 19 April 2005 23:18 (twenty years ago)

The O's are a fun team to watch. I love Miggy T

Gear! (can Jung shill it, Mu?) (Gear!), Tuesday, 19 April 2005 23:19 (twenty years ago)

As his Fantasy Manager, I have to say I love him too!

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 19 April 2005 23:22 (twenty years ago)

i have to agree. last year kind of stunk b/c they reverted to hargrove ball (aka the 6-12 game losing streak), but they figured it out 2nd half. i'd go so far as to say roberts through tejada are canned heat and the rest is kind of a crap shoot.

tejada's looked like ass in the field this season, though.

jonathan quayle higgins (j.q. higgins), Tuesday, 19 April 2005 23:23 (twenty years ago)

I expect Sosa to pick it up at some point, maybe. And I hope Raffy comes back with a 30/100 campaign. But maybe I'm just a fule.

Gear! (can Jung shill it, Mu?) (Gear!), Tuesday, 19 April 2005 23:26 (twenty years ago)

actually, sosa has performed above expectations for me. not wild about the dps, but he's hitting for a decent average and not striking out much. the hrs will come, but batting 4th he'll never have a chance to drive anyone in!

i want to see raffy come back, too, but he isn't looking well. dare i say, he has the cocaine face.

jonathan quayle higgins (j.q. higgins), Tuesday, 19 April 2005 23:29 (twenty years ago)

he looks like Keith Hernandez a little, true!

Gear! (can Jung shill it, Mu?) (Gear!), Tuesday, 19 April 2005 23:31 (twenty years ago)

speak of the devil & he appears: raffy just homered!

jonathan quayle higgins (j.q. higgins), Tuesday, 19 April 2005 23:37 (twenty years ago)
