Do you score the game?

I also kept score at my younger brother's T-ball games. Sort of weird, now that I think about it, that I was so invested in his team, but I got a late start as a baseball fan and never really played myself (except for one year, which only proved I hadn't been missing much glory).

I've kept score the last couple games I've gone to, but
I don't do it all the time. I liked, though, when the frat guy in front of me turned around and asked me how many strikeouts Ben Sheets had.

I once scored a computer vs. computer RBI Baseball game on the original Nintendo system.

I hear Moby likes the score.

also, i have taught my gf how to score (the game) when i have to piss.

went to the tiggers-yanquis game tonight for cameron maybin's first big league game, which was brutal. 0-for-4, two not-even-close k's, probably took too shallow a path on what turned out to be an andy phillips double. and really shouldn't have been hitting second.

in the sixth, he hit a swinging bunt and proceeded to run into it. how do you even score this? according to the box score, he "grounded out to catcher," which seems to be giving jorge a little too much credit...

Definitely a bad route. (He definitely looked lost the whole night but he wasn't the only Tiger to go hitless or K twice.)

Isn't it batter's interference?

Lots of scorekeeping talk during the Diamondbacks broadcast today. Reporter in the stands also interviewed a bunch of people who were keeping score, asking about the way they do it, how they learned, why they do it, etc.

after searching for several years and buying three scorebooks i didn't like, i finally found a vintage wilson e5317 on ebay. it arrived today and has room for 50 games! (my old one only had 30.)

Can you pull a blank page from it and get a copy shop to make you a few hundred and spiral-bind or comb-bind them?

oh i will this time -- i accidentally used the last page last time and it seemed like scanning it and photoshopping out all the marks might have been a step too far

Sort-of off topic, but my daughter taught herself a lot of Photoshop basics by scanning and un-coloring a coloring book that she'd loved when she was a little kid.

mook I have recently rescued a bunch of those books with 1972-88 games from the family archives.

found my old scorebooks at my dad's house. the earliest game is from 19 september 1980, two days before my ninth birthday -- it seems possible that i was wished a happy birthday on the scoreboard, but i don't remember.

how is one supposed to account for the free runner/manfred man in one's scorebook?

i mean i get the rationale behind truncating extra innings but don't fuck with my scoring

well you’re guaranteed to have a blank box on the batter’s line who made the last out in the previous inning, so i guess you’d draw in a… dotted half diamond or something?

i guess? but at a glance it would look like the runner had had a plate appearance, which is aesthetically hateful

Don’t they get credited for a run if they score?

i always put a little diagonal line to mark where the innings end so that would help clarify but yeah it’s odd

i feel like i’ve read somewhere that the zombie runner has not appreciably shortened game times

may not have shortened game times on average, but i'm pretty sure it's largely done away with the epic 18-21-inning games that wreck bullpens, and get used-up relievers optioned to the minors, and delight the 2000 fans remaining at the end
