Ok, EA vs. ESPN

I'm finally getting involved in the baseball season and now want to wile away hot summer nights playing a video game. Which one?

Likes: Sims and Capricorns.
Dislikes: Home run fests and bossy people.

(I tried to do a search on this but the search isn't moving fast enough)

Dudes, I too got irked at the search suckitude.

If you have a modded PS2, check out Konami's Pro Yakyu Spirits 2 (or the mid-season update Pro Yakyu Spirits 2 Climax). It features the J-League, and absolutely destroys any MLB game I've seen.

EA is the shit...finishing up my third season now. TRADE FOR MATT DERKSEN. Unless your the red sox....#1 prospect.

I only have an unmodded gaijin xbox.

Are there old teams in the EA game?

S. Creese, now there's a man you can build a franchise around. might take the triple crown in the season im playing now. on the rockies, there's him, todd helton, and a few other CPU generated players that are just tearing it up. The team's BA is over .330 and i'm in early september.

They still haven't fixed player progression in EA. Totally random based on the character creation specs, unrelated to stats, spring training or anything else. Sim up to the last game of spring training, save it, then sim that last game twice - a player might jump 14 in contact one time and drop the second.

How hard is it to get some of the Madden guys over there to say "OK, when he's 26 and went .320/.390/.530 last year, maybe he ought to get a bump in contact, power and plate discipline next year?"

The actual game part of EA is killer, though.

you can mod PS2s??

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 06:53 (twenty years ago)

i modded my PS1 in chinatown NYC and it was one of the greatest things i've ever done.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 06:54 (twenty years ago)

Yes, you need a chip to make it "all-region" and you can play burned or d/l-ed games.

it's a lot less geeky i guess when you do it in CHINATOWN

Ive done alright by EA. Great game, only I've gotten to the point where Im too good at the Pro level and suck the ass at the All Star difficulty.

I picked up a used copy of ESPN on the cheap. My major complaints are that it took me about a week to finally figure out how to hit well and that I still don't feel comfortable running the bases. Are the controls better for EA? Does anyone have both?

I picked up EA last week and am surprised at the terrible graphics. The heads on these guys are enormous. Steroids have taken their toll.
