Holy shit Earl is #3 with only 3 moves all season and not managing his team (um, Bobby Crosby has been on the DL for a week).

I know -- I noticed that a couple of days ago as well.

Fuck everyone whose teams have been healthy all season.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Sunday, 11 September 2005 17:26 (twenty years ago)

goddamn, had i started randy today i probably woulda been outta the cellar.

hstencil (hstencil), Sunday, 11 September 2005 22:48 (twenty years ago)

hi. i'm a big ilx lurker. i'm interested in joining up with you all if there's still an open slot.

i played in a fantasy league last year full of music nerds, and one guy no one knew blew us all away. i think i got third. we're not inviting him this year...

Carlos Beltran killed my team.

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 14:10 (twenty years ago)

Jaymc -- IT'S TIME TO ACTIVATE BONDS FROM THE DL

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 14:14 (twenty years ago)

How on earth did I start doing well again? I'm one point out of third... surely Carlos Delgado isn't single-handedly carrying my team?

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 16:06 (twenty years ago)

Adrian Beltre killed my team.

BELTSCHMERTZ

laurence kansas (lawrence kansas), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 16:40 (twenty years ago)

No, no - see, you EXPECT Adrian Beltre to screw the pooch (since, last year notwithstanding, he's been a chump), so him doing the killing is nothing special. Beltran, OTOH, is pulling some Brutus-type horseshit this year, and that's the stuff that can'ts be standed.

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 16:46 (twenty years ago)

PS - me me me me me, and me, and then how about me s'more?

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 16:46 (twenty years ago)

Actually what killed my team is my pitching staff refusing to throw K's.

THEY ARE ON STRIKE FROM STRIKEOUTS

laurence kansas (lawrence kansas), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 16:53 (twenty years ago)

I just picked up new Twins SP Francisco Liriano who was acquired from the Giants (along with Joe Nathan) for AJ Pierzynski.

So far this season Liriano has pitched 4 innings with 9 strikeouts, 0 walks and surrendered one hit, a HR.

Just to summarize, that's 20.25 K/9, 2.25 ERA, 0.25 WHIP and 9K/0BB.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 16:59 (twenty years ago)

Hello Mr. Sample Size!

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 17:00 (twenty years ago)

Liriano is the son I never had.

laurence kansas (lawrence kansas), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 17:02 (twenty years ago)

I LOFF HEEM! I HATE SABES.

Leeeeeeeee (Leee), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 17:02 (twenty years ago)

Hello, only 18 games left in the season = any sample size gladly accepted!

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 17:03 (twenty years ago)

I think Wayne Franklin had a similar bout of superstardom this year.

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 17:04 (twenty years ago)

of, with - whatever. Writing well is for suckas.

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 17:04 (twenty years ago)

Earlier this year in 72 IP with AAA Rochester, Liriano allowed only 39 H compiling 81 K's with an ERA of 1.75.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 17:22 (twenty years ago)

He just gave up another HR to Detroit's #9 hitter, this guy is eerily similar to Felix Hernandez (caveat: never mind the 30 minute rain-delay).

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 17:33 (twenty years ago)

shouldn't have started anybody yesterday.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 18:31 (twenty years ago)

I just released Luis Ayala, so I'm down to four players from the draft. This one was tough, though -- Ayala anchored my bullpen all season but he's been hurt, there's no news about when he'll pitch again, and I'm starved for offense.

In a game of Fantasy Baseball Survivor, I would have never guessed that Jeff Suppan would make the final four. How did THIS guy survive the entire season on my team when so many more notable players were traded, injured, and released? I think I'll draft him again next year just for sentimental value.

Strangely enough, he's been my best starter over the past month or so. He's like Kendra from the third season of The Apprentice -- invisible and on the bubble for most of the season, only to crank it up a notch towards the end.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 18:45 (twenty years ago)

José Cruz?

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 19:26 (twenty years ago)

Manny this year has been Shandi from ANTM Cycle 2. Started off slow, became frontrunning monster, only to have some stupid distraction due her in.

Leeeeeeeee (Leee), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 20:37 (twenty years ago)

José Cruz?

See Gygax's comments above re: small sample sizes. Also, I have roster moves to burn, so expect more mixing & matching than an episode of Queer Eye For the Straight Guy.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 20:42 (twenty years ago)

CruzJr demonstrated his "ruling RF with a concrete glove" routine again last night. Use 2 hands, ass!

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 20:48 (twenty years ago)

The race for 3rd tightens up! 2 points separating 3rd-6th. I picked up Boomer today, how many more times do the BoSox face the Yanquis? Also: name change to "Ruth's Curse Steak House".

the leglo (the leglo), Sunday, 18 September 2005 13:44 (twenty years ago)

We don't need no stinking moves.

I always try to avoid changing things based on who's hot - I'll almost always guess wrong. I just switch guys out when absolutely necessary and sometimes not even then.

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Sunday, 18 September 2005 20:00 (twenty years ago)

I hope that you didn't use Liriano tonight, gygax!

6 R, 6 H, 6 K. Surely, the Beast raiseth its heade!

Leeeeeeeee (Leee), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 03:48 (twenty years ago)

I did. And D. Lowe too. But Matt Cain will hopefully balance out an unfruitful day.

Of all the rookie pitching studs, is Matt Cain looking to be the best?

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 04:07 (twenty years ago)

If I win the ERA title with a pitching staff made up of spare parts, then y'all better show me some respect.

Starting Saarloos vs Texas last night may have been a mistake.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Monday, 26 September 2005 12:49 (twenty years ago)

All around!

I want to say Yahoo! bilked me out of two Saturday starts, but I probably just forgot to put My Man Millwood & Matt "Model Rocket" Clement in there.

PS - FIELDING PERCENTAGE I KNOW WHERE YOU LIVE

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 26 September 2005 13:18 (twenty years ago)

are you kidding g? i haven't seen cain's stuff but i'd take felix in a heartbeat.

John (jdahlem), Monday, 26 September 2005 14:03 (twenty years ago)

I'm thinking the line on those two is that Cain is A-OK (I.E. would not get das boot for crackers in bed), but Felix's potential (re: his stuff) is OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG.

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 26 September 2005 14:05 (twenty years ago)

What the eff is wrong with John Patterson now? Last two starts, 13 IP, 14 H, 9 ER, 4 HR, 6 BB!

Leeeeeeeee (Leee), Monday, 26 September 2005 17:50 (twenty years ago)

My team of singles slappers has gotten hot over the past two or three weeks getting 9 to 12 hits a day of late. It is way too late to matter much, but it has led me into 15th place with a shouting chance at 14th. It is not much, but I suppose it is better than nothing, as I have been actively (over)mananging this season.

I've felt like a dope reading up on the Tribe and watching Jhonny Peralta and Grady Sizemore clobbering the ball, because I had both of them for a short period of time early in the season.

Earl Nash (earlnash), Monday, 26 September 2005 19:19 (twenty years ago)

what happened to the big nasty vs. the mets = his family had been evacuated from getting their asses kicked by hurricane rita that day, and it was on his mind.

and vs the giants what happened was "hurricane barry"

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 01:31 (twenty years ago)

dag... raposa is closing in on first.
i am headed off on tour this evening - internet will likely be limited for the rest of the season. hopefully my boys can hold on for the last few games.
even though i don't speak up much, i read this board way too much. it's been fun. and thanks to derrek lee and, yes, julio lugo for carrying my team most of the season. <

the leglo (the leglo), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 14:51 (twenty years ago)

I have no idea how. To whomever is taking points away from leglo's team - kudos!

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 15:03 (twenty years ago)

Is it over? Closest race ever?

laurence kansas (lawrence kansas), Monday, 3 October 2005 13:44 (twenty years ago)

Yay, I finished in 14th!!!

Earl Nash (earlnash), Monday, 3 October 2005 13:47 (twenty years ago)

It's over, but I don't know where I ended up - I WAS in first starting yesterday, and had a decent enough day (tho stupid YAHOO! dicked me out of some Zach Duke luv) (I'm never @ fault for anything).

This last month+ tho = madness. Somehow the lead fluctuated between 15 and 2 points at will throughout, and despite me turfing three categories (saves, hitters Ks, FIELDING PERCENTAGE), I was up thar throughout all of this.

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 3 October 2005 14:11 (twenty years ago)

earl nash you suck, passing me on the last day is SO OVER

Wasn't NMD in 1st place for most of the season? madness

laurence kansas (lawrence kansas), Monday, 3 October 2005 16:20 (twenty years ago)

Hurt Me Do It Again -- final injury count

# of players who made a trip to the DL while on the active roster: 10
# of those who were in the opening day starting lineup: 7
# of those that were season-ending injuries: 4 (3 of whom were in the opening day starting lineup)
# of players who were on the active roster whose clubs didn't *officially* place them on the DL but they missed significant time due to injury: 7
# of those that resulted in the player being "shut down for the remainder of the season" in September: 4

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Monday, 3 October 2005 16:28 (twenty years ago)

xpost -- NMD was in first for most of September, but My Bobby Valentine probably spent the most days in first place.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Monday, 3 October 2005 16:29 (twenty years ago)

But it's a miracle I stayed competitive for so long, given the amount of care I put into managing and how shitty my pitching staff was to start with.
