Correct # of games if series goes to maximum length = 3 pts

Can you change this to "if series goes to 6 or 7 games" (CS and WS only)?

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 18:01 (twenty years ago)

Whoa I'm not in last place.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 18:01 (twenty years ago)

Also, maybe the point totals should be doubled for the CS and WS? Otherwise, the standings will be skewed toward the DS results, which are less critical series and are easier to predict.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 18:02 (twenty years ago)

Oooh, I would've predicted if I'd known it was a CONTEST.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 18:08 (twenty years ago)

Correct # of games if series goes to maximum length = 3 pts
Can you change this to "if series goes to 6 or 7 games" (CS and WS only)?

-- MindInRewind (mbvarkestra197...), Today 12:01 PM. (Barry Bruner)

You can always change it! But I'm confused, maximum length = 5 games (DS) or 7 games (CS/WS). Remind me again why guessing 6 games should be rewarded?

And yes, points should be doubled for CS and then again for WS.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 18:09 (twenty years ago)

yeah what jaymc said. so far I'd have a lot of points, the only series result that has surprised me was houston over atlanta.

The Obligatory Sourpuss (Begs2Differ), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 18:10 (twenty years ago)

It's a retroactive contest!

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 18:11 (twenty years ago)

it's basically like Fantasy Baseball Season part 2.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 18:14 (twenty years ago)

I wouldn't have predicted if I'd known!

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 18:15 (twenty years ago)

Hey Morbs, this is as good a place as any to ask why you're so down on the Cards and your favorite player in baseball, Prince Albert.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 18:19 (twenty years ago)

I should revisit my LCS picks before the game starts tonight.

What does the winner get? I can put up some Pizza Hut coupons and some 8-year-old incense sticks.

William Paper Scissors (Rock Hardy), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 18:21 (twenty years ago)

The winner gets one free guest column in the NewTimes Village Voice.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 18:23 (twenty years ago)

'gax:

*LaRussa. Law degree. 'Nuff said.
*Residual hatred from the Herzog '80s years (and Mets rivalry).
*My New Jersey-bred cousin is a fan.
*I retch at the whole 'Midwestern baseball town' thing, a little.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 18:25 (twenty years ago)

Remind me again why guessing 6 games should be rewarded?

I changed my mind, your system is fine. I realized now that one can get 6 pts for predicting the winner + # of games plus/minus 1.

I was thinking that there'd be an advantage to picking 7 game series, because you can get points even if your team loses. But if you pick 7 and the series goes 5, then it cancels the advantage you might have had by just picking the series to go 6 (which is what I've done for both series).

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 18:29 (twenty years ago)

*I retch at the whole 'Midwestern baseball town' thing, a little.

Morbius is a snob, news at ten o'clock.

The Obligatory Sourpuss (Begs2Differ), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 18:36 (twenty years ago)

Did anyone else pick the correct winners for all four series? I can't believe I was the only one who pick the three home teams and against the Braves.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 19:03 (twenty years ago)

Wow, that's cool! I had forgotten about these predictions. Nice work, gygax.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 19:11 (twenty years ago)

Morbius, I'd just like to chime in drunkenly as a fellow lifelong Mets fan and note that you are absolutely 100% correct in holding Cardinals-related grudges until death. They're just....the Yankees of our world: boring, evil, consistent, predictable. Of course, that's been woefully outdated for years until recently, but in this sport, if I remember right, we CELEBRATE FOOLISH GRUDGES.

Back to my cave.

Hurlothrumbo (hurlothrumbo), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 22:59 (twenty years ago)

so next year those of us who didn't predict will have "incentive," i see. bummer.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 12 October 2005 00:17 (twenty years ago)

dudes and dudettes, who skipped out on the first round:

you can win up to 40 points in the 2nd round by guessing both series outcomes and # of games correctly in the next 37 minutes.

this is all "fun", do you see?

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 12 October 2005 00:53 (twenty years ago)

Meh, i just realize that New York is America's Baseball Town. BWA HAH

The predictions for the LCS should just have been the answer to "How many Molinas in the World Series?" (none for me)

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Sunday, 16 October 2005 16:58 (twenty years ago)

sox in 6

polyphonic (polyphonic), Thursday, 20 October 2005 18:23 (twenty years ago)

Well, it was nice to be in the top five for a little while.

I do feel guilty for getting any perverse amusement out of it (Rock Hardy), Thursday, 20 October 2005 18:24 (twenty years ago)

ILB=pwned

boldbury (boldbury), Thursday, 20 October 2005 19:27 (twenty years ago)

Yeah I can't win now, cuz even if I'm right on so is Morbius and he's ten points ahead of me.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 20 October 2005 19:28 (twenty years ago)

UNLESS... one of you changes your prediction!

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 20 October 2005 20:25 (twenty years ago)

YES but then what would stop the other person from ALSO changing their prediction. Anyway I would have to pick the White Sox in 5 and be right to win and I just can't see that happening.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 20 October 2005 20:28 (twenty years ago)

Me too dum to work on the scoring -- did gear beat me out? I can live with that as long as the prize wasn't An Evening With Neal Cotts.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 27 October 2005 19:39 (twenty years ago)

No you won. gear guessed in six which only gives him a 1.5 extra points over your pick. Blount was behind gear and had the same pick. Everyone else was either behind him or picked the Astros.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Friday, 28 October 2005 02:50 (twenty years ago)

gah i should made pix for the first round

j blount (papa la bas), Friday, 28 October 2005 03:22 (twenty years ago)

Shouldn't the guy who picked Astros in 4 have to pay all the White Sox fans on ILB $50 each?

Baked Bean Teeth (Baked Bean Teeth), Friday, 28 October 2005 22:01 (twenty years ago)

whoa hey i came. how'd that happen?

gear (gear), Friday, 28 October 2005 22:09 (twenty years ago)

wait no, came CLOSE!

gear (gear), Friday, 28 October 2005 22:09 (twenty years ago)
