wow, Bobby Valentine!

On PTI they showed the video of the Marines players tossing Valentine in the air after their playoff win. I think Ozzie Guillen would really enjoy that too -- it might be worth rooting for the White Sox in the World Series just to see it happen!

Will this be on ESPN5?

Actually I was a day off, it's now the bottom of the 7th and the Marines just dropped a 5-spot on the Tigers to make it 10-1.

Game 2: Marines 10, Tigers 0
A blow-out so far, but things could change when the series moves to Osaka tomorrow.

two months pass...
So Valentine claims that his Japan-league Chiba Lotte Marines can compete with the White Sox (who dominated the AL plus every round of the playoffs including the World Series sweep in 2005) in a 7-game series and Baseball Prospectus and Diamond Mind simulation software took him to task:

Well at least they were more competitive than the Astros or Red Sox:

This doc about Bobby Valentine is on ESPN2 tomorrow night -- it's about one third filler, but worth a look. And it's about the 2007 season, not '05.

i was literally cackling at shit like this:

It was a system that manifested itself in dusk-to-dawn days in lengthy spring training camps that were three to four times longer than in the U.S. There was a focus on so-called "guts" drills where players were made to field balls to the point of exhaustion and it sometimes entailed corporal punishment, where coaches would kick and slap recalcitrant players.

so the sac bunt is the holy grail of japanese baseball, and if you drop a grounder in practice some doughy old guy will slap the shit out of you
