really this is open to any bad broadcaster, but since i don't have cable but yet get TBS, here ya go:

discussing a sailboat out on sf bay during giants vs. braves on saturday, 4/8:

"the only nautical term i know is CHIPS AHOY, they come in a package from the grocery store."

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 10 April 2006 20:06 (twenty years ago)

During a Padres/Cubs preseason game, the announcer for the Cubs on WGN sang several bars from "Kiss At The End of the Rainbow" from A Mighty Wind. Very strange moment.

four months pass...
A friend heard C.C. say on a recent telecast, "The bags are loaded, and I wish I was."

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Monday, 28 August 2006 18:27 (nineteen years ago)

This thread should be 100+ posts - I listened to a Braves game for about 5 minutes yesterday, and was knee-deep in dumb after one AB.

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 28 August 2006 18:42 (nineteen years ago)

i don't have tbs any more. feel free to list 'em, dave.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 28 August 2006 21:21 (nineteen years ago)

i watched the twins/chisox game and i never caught the name of the white sox announcers but they were HORRIBLE. I ended up muting the game.

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Monday, 28 August 2006 21:27 (nineteen years ago)

I forgot the dumbness, unfortunately.

Steve Shasta, was that your first encounter with HAWK HARRELSON?

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 28 August 2006 22:27 (nineteen years ago)

That's kinda hard to believe! I figured everyone had been exposed at least once, like the chicken pox.

mattbot (mattbot), Monday, 28 August 2006 22:44 (nineteen years ago)

I think so... it was a lot of that "us/we/them" homer-istic bullshit that GRATES. A lot of emotional hand-wringing and playing the hypotheticals late in the game. Listen dude, I'm glad this is YOUR team and you feel like a big part of it, now quit the fucking one-sided pity party and start calling the game.

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Monday, 28 August 2006 22:51 (nineteen years ago)

FYI: I don't have TV, but I was housesitting this weekend and got spoiled by watching parts of a few local/national games.

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Monday, 28 August 2006 22:52 (nineteen years ago)

I'll admit to actually enjoying Harrelson when he was with Paciorek.

I have been enduring the Carays my entire life.

Skip doing commentary for Goodwill Games motoball = very very very bleak.

A friend heard C.C. say on a recent telecast, "The bags are loaded, and I wish I was."

Sorry, but this doesn't belong on a "stupid shit" thread, this line is AWESOME.

NoTimeBeforeTime (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 29 August 2006 06:35 (nineteen years ago)

I agree, but it belonged on a Chip thread. He doesn't bother me that much, actually, given the nonstop birdbrained shit on ESPN.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 29 August 2006 12:48 (nineteen years ago)

Actually, it's stupid because it should be, "The bags are loaded, and I wish I were."

c('°c) (Leee), Tuesday, 29 August 2006 14:44 (nineteen years ago)

And actually, Skip said it, not Chip. Which could be cause for alarm, since the guy's supposedly been dry for years now.

Chip and Sutton are awful. Joe Simpson's a quality color guy. Pete Van Wieren's one of the more underrated announcers around. And Skip is old enough and entertaining enough to get away with his shit.

barefoot manthing (Garrett Martin), Wednesday, 30 August 2006 03:21 (nineteen years ago)

is there a fourth generation caray? kip? rip? bip? pip?

gear (gear), Wednesday, 30 August 2006 06:32 (nineteen years ago)

thx for the correction; Harry was the only Caray I could recognize vocally anyway.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 30 August 2006 12:15 (nineteen years ago)

Should be easy to tell Skip and Chip apart. Chip sounds like a mindless drone who's had all personality and regional dialect stripped from his voice, a la Joe Buck or any play-by-play guy under the age of 40; Skip just sounds like an old drunk.

barefoot manthing (Garrett Martin), Wednesday, 30 August 2006 12:35 (nineteen years ago)

three years pass...

Chip Caray and TBS Part Ways

mookieproof, Monday, 30 November 2009 21:21 (sixteen years ago)

Caray’s high-volume style was mixed with a penchant for bad play calls, embellishments and factual errors.

hahaha, good news. But I'm sure some team will be desperate enough to sign him up.

Bob Saget's "Night Moves": C or D (WmC), Monday, 30 November 2009 21:29 (sixteen years ago)

I doubt he had a "penchant" for any of those things, NY Times.

windy = white, carl = black (polyphonic), Monday, 30 November 2009 22:16 (sixteen years ago)

They pulled a Caray.

Andy K, Monday, 30 November 2009 23:09 (sixteen years ago)
