Jimmy Mod: My theme is DEATH (The Famous Jimmy Mod), Saturday, 15 April 2006 18:48 (twenty years ago)

Im waiting for the LAD to suffer an on-field fatality. This shit is fucking rediculous.

Stuh-du-du-du-du-du-du-denka (jingleberries), Saturday, 15 April 2006 19:11 (twenty years ago)

Still sucking...

Went to the series in Houston this week. Aside from the Nomar grand slam against Lidge and the fact that our bullpen didnt implode until the 14th inning the game afterwards, there was no real surprises. Furcal is still batting .200 but has some more errors under his belt, Kent looks uncomfortable and the short porch at Minute Maid annoys me more and more every day. At least JD Drew is still alive.

Stuh-du-du-du-du-du-du-denka (jingleberries), Thursday, 27 April 2006 16:07 (twenty years ago)

Don't worry - he'll get hit by a falling airplane engine, and folks will once again bitch about fragile he is & how he needs to suck it up.

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 27 April 2006 16:11 (twenty years ago)

He = Nomar or JD.

Another big lead blown in the bottom of the 9th. Clearly we have the worst bullpen in baseball.

Stuh-du-du-du-du-du-du-denka (jingleberries), Saturday, 13 May 2006 22:04 (twenty years ago)

Baez tried to give it away today, but he does get credit for getting the double play ball in the 8th. I suppose it all worked out.

Considering how many injuries the Dodgers have had, they are really not in too bad a shape.

Earl Nash (earlnash), Thursday, 18 May 2006 01:09 (twenty years ago)

The prospect merry-go-round continues with Chad Billingsley getting a start on Thursday. I am cautiously optimistic, but not expecting much. I think its pretty par for the course for prospects to get lit up when theyre first called up and eventually work things out the next year or two (ala Matt Cain). But still, anything is better than Odalis Perez.

ps: Furcal, WTF?

Stuh-du-du-du-du-du-du-denka (jingleberries), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 20:29 (nineteen years ago)

Matt Cain started hott immediately after he was called up. He didn't get lit up till his second year.

PS -- hahah Gagne! More like Gangerene! Gagnerene! You know whatta mean!

c(''c) (Leee), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 21:29 (nineteen years ago)

Is Coletti already taking credit for Penny and Lowe?

I know Depo's 04 and 05 drafts have pushed LA up to #2 (or #1) farm system in the majors... probably won't get credit for that... that is, until Coletti trades all the talent away for gritty veterans.

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 21:43 (nineteen years ago)

third base is still a big question mark, maybe they can spin some of that unproven talent into a proven winner. word is that the mariners are shopping adrian beltre, a slugging 3b who has proven before that he can swing lethal lumber in the spacious alleys of chavez ravine

Today is the big day. Lets hope its not brutal. Lets also hope that a non-rookie actually does something productive, too. McCourt could probably have saved some money this season if he didnt sign all those vets who currently inhabit the DL (or will in the future).

Stuh-du-du-du-du-du-du-denka (jingleberries), Thursday, 15 June 2006 17:46 (nineteen years ago)

5.1 IP, 6 H, 3K, 2BB, 2ER. Not so bad. Plus CBillz picked up 2RBI and got HBP. Next time up will be against Seattle so that might not be a big challenge either. Still better than Odalis.

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Thursday, 27 July 2006 14:08 (nineteen years ago)

what's the breakdown on the dodgers, with regards to the players depodesta was responsible for as opposed to those coletti brought in?

i think garciaparra is a "plus" in coletti's column, though if they give him a ridiculous contract after this season that plus will go minus.

Jimmy Mod: THE HANDLESS ORGANIST (The Famous Jimmy Mod), Thursday, 27 July 2006 22:25 (nineteen years ago)

Hey I was just about the revive this thread. Its a damn shame tho. However, you cant put up miracle numbers for the first half of the season and expect it to keep going on. However, the first day out from the all star break isnt when I expected it to happen. I just hope McCourt doesnt demand results from Coletti that results in us making retarded ass trades at the deadline. However, I do think that McCourts secret dream is to field a team half-full of guys making the league minimum and doing well, which might happen by next season.

Stuh-du-du-du-du-du-du-denka (jingleberries), Thursday, 27 July 2006 22:32 (nineteen years ago)

Plaschke is so happy about Penny's recent struggles, it's pathetic.

Well Plaschke has had much recent success when it comes to disposing of his enemies. His new column is pretty disgusting tho. So explain to me, how is benching the teams best pitcher going to solve their woes? If only we had Paul LoDuca to lead us to the promised land fueled by his heart and soul and veteran leadership.

I booed the shit out of JD Drew yesterday at the game. Fuck that guy. HIT SOMETHING.

HOW THEY DOIN' IT???

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 18:14 (nineteen years ago)

Dare I say the dreaded 'intangibles' gained by picking up some strange acquisitions at the trade deadline? Everything has been working during the streak - hitting, defense (1 error over the last two weeks and that was a passed ball by Martin), starting pitching (Lowe and Penny stopped sucking, Maddux and Billinglsey having better than usual, Hendrickson didnt fall down), and the bullpen has only allowed one run.

Stuh-du-du-du-du-du-du-denka (jingleberries), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 22:03 (nineteen years ago)

"HOW THEY DOIN' IT??? "

They may not be hitting many home runs, but they have scored quite a few more runs than anyone else in their divison and their OBP is 4th in baseball. So I guess getting the little things done does add up after a while, especially when you have decent pitching (at least for the NL) and you play in a division where no team can run away and hide.

Earl Nash (earlnash), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 22:59 (nineteen years ago)

hi OBP not 'a little thing'!

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 10 August 2006 12:57 (nineteen years ago)

Ha - all the "little things" in baseball (hitting to the right side, moving runners over, bunting / sacrificing) conspire to submarine OBP!

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 10 August 2006 13:07 (nineteen years ago)

"HOW THEY DOIN' IT???"

Uh have you guys looked at the NL lately?!?! That's how they are doin' it. Life gets a lot easier when you are playing Washington and Florida.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 10 August 2006 14:45 (nineteen years ago)

But DC and Fla are 'right in the thick of it'!

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 10 August 2006 14:54 (nineteen years ago)

Beelzebud (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 10 August 2006 15:09 (nineteen years ago)

Oh Alex...

Florida's starters are better than Oakland's and Washington's infield better than Oakland's.

The AL West ain't exactly the Isle of Dr. Morneau that the AL Central is.

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Thursday, 10 August 2006 15:17 (nineteen years ago)

"Florida's starters are better than Oakland's and Washington's infield better than Oakland's."

Maybe so, BUT they aren't the SAME team so it really doesn't fucking matter does it?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 10 August 2006 15:22 (nineteen years ago)

I would take Florida's infield over Oakland's as well.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Thursday, 10 August 2006 15:41 (nineteen years ago)

No one sane wants any of the A's regular lineup (minus perhaps Swisher, Bradley and Thomas) starting for them, but the A's (by virtue of being very lucky or perhaps by virtue of having a very solid defense and pitching staff) are still leading the AL West (which is a stronger division than any in the NL) by three games and are still a probably better than any of the NL teams other than the Mets or the Cardinals.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 10 August 2006 15:49 (nineteen years ago)

I would take Florida's starters over 75% of the other rotations in MLB.

NoTimeBeforeTime (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 10 August 2006 15:49 (nineteen years ago)

Florida's outfield is terrible, though.

Very quietly, the Dodgers' grasp on the NL West has disintegrated into a mere half game lead over the Padres.

The Giants are waiting in the wings, if the Dodgers' fall from grace knows no bottom.

Down 9-5 in the 9th, facing a 1.5 game deficit to the Padres, the Dodgers rallied with FOUR SOLO HOMERS (and came back again in the tenth on Nomar's walkoff homer). Someone call Elias, that's gotta be some kind of record.

NoTimeBeforeTime (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 05:23 (nineteen years ago)

OK, it's only the fourth time that a team has hit back-to-back-to-back-to-back homers, not sure if any of them tied a game in the bottom of the ninth innning though!

I LEFT THIS GAME IN THE BOTTOM OF THE NINTH.

The guy who got us the tickets has to get up at 4am every day because he works east coast hours. Sucks. I will be recording the replay tomorrow.

It was kinda easy to leave tho.. How the fuck do you not score any runs with the bases loaded and nobody out? I guess Cla Meredith had something to say about it.. That kid is fucking nasty. He got 3 outs with 3 pitches.

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Thursday, 28 September 2006 20:49 (nineteen years ago)

Im starting to wonder if its best to trade Penny this season. His contract is imminently dealable and hes been sucking in the second half, but not bad enough that nobody would want him. Perhaps if the Dodgers had a pitching coach worth a damn it wouldnt be an issue.

Stuh-du-du-du-du-du-du-denka (jingleberries), Thursday, 28 September 2006 21:05 (nineteen years ago)

one month passes...
According to FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal, the Dodgers may be moving close to signing outfielder Juan Pierre.

Pierre could be one of the worst signings of the winter if his deal rivals the three-year, $30 million offer the Giants reportedly submitted. We're becoming more skeptical about that one. If the Dodgers sign Pierre, the Giants will probably change their focus to Dave Roberts. They're also pursuing Gary Matthews Jr., but he seems like a long shot for them. The Brewers also want Roberts.

If this goes through Ned Colletti's GM status will go from 'wait and see' to 'ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME???'

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Monday, 20 November 2006 23:57 (nineteen years ago)

Free agent center fielder Juan Pierre has agreed to a five-year contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers, a source told ESPN.com on Monday. The deal is believed to be worth $44-45 million.

The deal will become complete when Pierre passes a physical exam, the source said.

Pierre, 29, is a .303 hitter over seven seasons with Colorado, Florida and the Chicago Cubs. He led the National League with 204 hits in 2006.

The San Francisco Giants were also interested in Pierre, and had offered him a four-year deal in the $32-34 million range, a source said.
