Didn't they already pay the Mets for the naming rights?

Alex in SF, Wednesday, 3 December 2008 15:59 (seventeen years ago)

It's $400 million over 20 years, so not all of it.

Dr Morbius, Wednesday, 3 December 2008 16:11 (seventeen years ago)

Well more than a year I would think haha. I guess it depends if they get bought, but considering the sweetheart deal they just got. . .

Alex in SF, Wednesday, 3 December 2008 17:11 (seventeen years ago)

In other stadium news, it sounds like the A's stadium will actually wind up being close to public transit after all, which is a very good thing.

Yay!

Alex in SF, Wednesday, 3 December 2008 20:05 (seventeen years ago)

...in Fremont though. Have you guys ever BARTed to Fremont from SF?

I used to BART from Fremont to SF and back every day to go to work, so yeah.

"...in Fremont though. Have you guys ever BARTed to Fremont from SF?"

Yeah it takes a little while longer (maybe 20 minutes each way?) At least I won't have to shuttle once I get off BART.

Alex in SF, Wednesday, 3 December 2008 20:36 (seventeen years ago)

it's basically out near all those weird colored salt flats that you see when you're flying into oakland. they are now closer to san jose than to oakland.

(*゚ー゚)θ L(。・_・) °~ヾ(・ε・ *) (Steve Shasta), Wednesday, 3 December 2008 20:37 (seventeen years ago)

Which was the idea all along, wasn't it? They want to be as close to San Jose as possible.

south bay dudes get hooked up totally

gabbneb, Wednesday, 3 December 2008 20:43 (seventeen years ago)

BART is already almost one hour from Civic Center to Fremont... this will be one stop further. 2 hour plus commute to see a game?

(*゚ー゚)θ L(。・_・) °~ヾ(・ε・ *) (Steve Shasta), Wednesday, 3 December 2008 20:44 (seventeen years ago)

Most of the A's fanbase is in ContraCosta/Alameda Counties...

San Jose traditionally follows the Giants (cf: SJ Giants).

I guess the A's are trying to keep the fans as lily-white as their team.

2 hour plus commute to see a game?

To be fair, I don't think the core of A's fans live near Civic Center BART.

polyphonic, Wednesday, 3 December 2008 21:00 (seventeen years ago)

Also, even in Oakland, most of the A's fans are white. And San Jose and San Francisco are pretty similar in terms of demographics.
