Looking better, now...

Leading all major-league outfielders in VORP: Casey Blake.

They need some more of that starting pitching stuff, though. Consistent starting pitching, anyway. Or maybe they need to replace this year's Westbrook with the Westbrook of a few years back. Also, they're offense is monstrous even w/out Peralta doing much in the 3 slot besides scoring runs - he's OPSing around 700.

OK, why is Blake hitting SEVENTH?? .354/.431/.614

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 25 May 2006 12:24 (nineteen years ago)

He's countering the Shelton-hitting-sixth mojo of the Tigers!

Contrast that w/ Peralta's slow start in the 3 hole: .247 / .337 / .363

More to the story:

Jhonny Peralta
April .229/281/.352
May .273/.404/.377

Their bullpen might be a bit better this year, but their starting pitching is much worse. They have a killer lineup, Martinez and Hafner back to back seems to destroy some pitchers.

I hope for Cleveland's sake they can get some pitching before Hafner and these guys become big stars playing for the Red Sox, Yanks or some other club that will sign them away in a couple of years and the cycle of build and destroy begins again.

three months pass...
mlb.com:

Grady Sizemore, with 84 extra-base hits this season, is on track to become just the seventh player in baseball history to lead his league in extra-base hits with the majority of his at-bats coming from the leadoff spot, according to SABR statistician Herm Krabbenhoft. The first to do it was the Yankees' Snuffy Stirnweiss with 64 in 1945, and the most recent was the Yankees' Alfonso Soriano with 92 in 2002.
