How many innings is CJ Wilson going to pitch this year? He had 73 IP last year so youd think he could only give 125 without cheating death.

In case you were wondering what happened to Scott Servais...

Texas Rangers catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia is having difficulty throwing the ball to the mound consistently. It's the main reason he's still at Triple-A Oklahoma City and not in the majors.

Richard Durrett and the rest of the ESPNDallas.com team have the inside scoop on the Rangers, the American League and Major League Baseball. Blog

"He's working very hard to get over it," said Scott Servais, Rangers director of player personnel. "He's healthy, but he has to get used to throwing after surgery. Pitchers go through the same thing. He has to fight through that mental block, too."

A report on the Oklahoma RedHawks website noted that Saltalamacchia caught last Tuesday's game and that "12 throws back to the pitcher landed either short of the mound or in center field."

The story said five of those throws came in the first inning.

"He's frustrated, but he is focused on getting through it," Servais said. "And I know he will. I don't know when, but he'll get through it. You have to fight every day, and he's doing that."

Andy K, Friday, 14 May 2010 22:57 (fifteen years ago)

by "in center field" they mean that the ball ended up in center field not that he threw it to center field in the air right?

i agree on yr second point - but how is it harder to pitch now in a way that affects pitch counts?

i understand that there's more research and training etc that hitters benefit from now - but that shouldn't affect how many pitches a guy can throw?

I'll be so pissed if the league lets the Rangers take on salary at the trade deadline when theyre effectively bankrupt especially since Selig put the kibosh on the Dodgers signing Vlad Guerrero back in the day because they had new ownership.

Fan survives 30-foot fall at baseball stadium

2 hrs 10 mins ago

ARLINGTON, Texas (Reuters) – A baseball fan survived a 30-foot (nine meters) fall from the stands during Tuesday's Major League Baseball game between Texas and Cleveland on Tuesday, according to the Rangers website.

The incident occurred when the fan was reaching for a foul ball but lost his balance and flipped over the railing of the second deck and fell onto the lower-level seats.

He was conscious and able to move his extremities before being taken to a nearby hospital.

Four other fans were treated for minor injuries and the game was delayed for 16 minutes.

Congratulation on getting the big prize mid-season, Cliff Lee is an amazing piece. Surprised Seattle traded within their own division.

Boo Radley (Bee OK), Friday, 9 July 2010 21:24 (fifteen years ago)

Giving up on Smoak is kinda nuts for a half-season rental but Cliff Lee is very good.

Apparently some teams are mad the Rangers did this considering their financial situation.

no turkey unless it's a club sandwich (polyphonic), Friday, 9 July 2010 21:27 (fifteen years ago)

I think the Rangers paid in prospects with the M's kicking in cash considerations.

mayor jingleberries, Friday, 9 July 2010 21:50 (fifteen years ago)

xp: mariners dont care if cliff lee shuts them down once or twice for the rest of this year

rangers on the other hand now get to be beaten up by justin smoak for years

afaik the rangers set a budget in the offseason and are sticking to it, M's are sending them cash to make this work within it

ciderpress, Friday, 9 July 2010 21:51 (fifteen years ago)

are the rangers the only mlb team now to never have won a playoff series?

ciderpress, Friday, 9 July 2010 22:08 (fifteen years ago)

Smoak doesn't seem to have done much since getting drafted. Every no power 1B gets compared to John Olerud, but I'm not sure I see it in Smoak's future.

In the segment of the press conference shown on MLBN, Ryan referred to Lee as a "proven starter" and an "innings eater." You'd think they had signed Livan Hernandez. You'd also think six walks allowed in 100+ innings would warrant "He throws strikes."
