i think at the end of the year i'm gonna do a brad lidge blown save poll

He died as he lived: blowing saves
― mayor jingleberries, Wednesday, 26 August 2009 03:24 (sixteen years ago)
There definitely is a boom bust cycle going on with Brad Lidge. Who would have ever thought he would have been able to live down that neck breaker when Albert Pujols hit that moon shot in the playoffs? He got a second act, which as said by F. Scott Fitzgerald said isn't possible in America.

i feel vv lucky that i didn't have room for four relief pitchers on my fantasy staff today because i had four starters going, and i chose to bench lidge.

“We just keep going. We just keep playing,” Manuel said. “That’s where we’re at. That’s our closer. That’s the guy we give the ball to in the ninth inning.”
oh, my

Leave my closer alone!
― Andy K, Wednesday, 26 August 2009 19:13 (sixteen years ago)
So Madson comes in instead of Lidge tonight and.. blows the save. This guys numbers are awesome yet he can't seem to close out games. Im usually one to hate on 'closer mentality' bullshit but damn..
― mayor jingleberries, Thursday, 27 August 2009 03:05 (sixteen years ago)
it happened again:
Bottom 9th: Washington- B. Lidge relieved B. Myers- W. Nieves singled to shallow center- A. Gonzalez grounded out to third, W. Nieves to second- W. Harris hit by pitch- W. Nieves to third, W. Harris to second on wild pitch- C. Guzman walked- R. Madson relieved B. Lidge- R. Zimmerman struck out swinging- A. Dunn grounded out to shortstop
Lidge gets the H, Madson gets the S

if only lidge was dominican it would be so easy to solve this problem. they could have his family kidnapped, they could release him for "lying" about his age, they could just frame him for murder. the world would be their oyster.

I've never heard telecasters blast a plate umpire like the Marlins' (awesome) telecast last night.

what was going on with the marlin's game?
― The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall, Thursday, 24 September 2009 15:46 (sixteen years ago)
That half of the inning, there were a couple really bad strike calls -- one of which led to John Baker getting ejected -- that made the Marlins' guys livid. Apparently it had been going on all game.

Part of it (Marlins telecast):

A call on Hanley Ramirez a couple pitches later set them off even more.
