Matsui and Morales went back to back. Brandon Wood, however, was 0-4 with 3 K's. Will be interesting to see if he makes it or goes down in flames like the other overhyped angels prospects.

Its weird to think that out of the initial Angels prospect core of Kendrick, Morales, McPherson and Kotchman that Morales would be the one to break out big time. I didn't see that coming. But maybe I wasnt paying enough attention.

“The Godzilla of Japan, the Godzilla of New York,” teammate Torii Hunter began, “and now the Godzilla of Los Angeles…or Anaheim.”

Reminded of his team’s official name, Hunter reconsidered.

“The Los Angeles Godzilla of Anaheim,” he proclaimed, christening perhaps the most awkward and least-likely-to-stick nickname in the history of baseball, North America and Asia.

Had Brian Fuentes been able to pitch a clean ninth inning Wednesday, he would have been the fastest pitcher to reach 50 saves in Los Angeles Angels history.

We're talking about a ball club that has employed Lee Smith, Troy Percival and Francisco Rodriguez, fast company to keep if you're a closer.

But instead of toasting Fuentes Wednesday evening, Angels fans were booing him lustily. There was a smattering of cackles when Fuentes was first announced, there were louder boos when Miguel Cabrera launched a game-tying home run and the place was roaring with its disapproval by the time Fuentes walked off the field after an ugly blown save in the Angels' 4-3 loss to the Detroit Tigers.

Of course Weaver yelled "FUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!!" and "FUCKIN' BULLSHIT!!!" after he K'd Burrell. There was an error and a passed ball -- and Crawford almost scooted home after Upton K'd 'cause Budde thought it was the third out -- but position players oughta consider acting similarly whenever their pitchers get lit up.

Switched back to this game in time to see Weaver say "DAMNIT BUDDE!," during Bartlett's AB I think (dropped strike?).

Then Crawford flicked a change-up to the opposite field, exactly where Aybar would've been if Bartlett hadn't taken off for second on the pitch. Cue Weaver tantrum.

And then another passed ball, etc.

ANAHEIM -- Los Angeles Angels first baseman Kendry Morales appeared to seriously injure his left leg after hitting the game-winning grand slam in the 10th inning of the Angels' 5-1 win over the Seattle Mariners Saturday.

Morales was leaping in the air, surrounded by his teammates, when he appeared to land on someone's foot. He collapsed and remained on top of home plate for several minutes, the Angels clustered around him.

Trainers administered an air cast to Morales' left foot and he was placed on a stretcher and carted off the field. Morales was waving both of his arms as he was taken away and the crowd gave him an ovation.

It was not immediately known what injury he sustained, or its severity.

Losing Morales for an extended period of time, which seems like a foregone conclusion, could be a crushing blow to the Angels. He leads the team in batting average (.290), home runs (11) and RBIs (39).

Frandsen comes alive

Kevin Frandsen will make his first major league start at first base against the Brewers on Monday night.
Interesting. As Woike notes, he will be the third Angels' player to make his major league debut at first base this season. Though he hasn't played there in the major leagues, Frandsen played 17 games at first base with Triple-A Fresno (Giants) last season.

Cant believe the angels have gone like 10-4 or something since Kendry's retarded accident.

mayor jingleberries, Monday, 14 June 2010 23:53 (fifteen years ago)

I was looking at boxscores and realized something:

Pitcher A: 3.32 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, K/BB = 3.1
Pitcher B: 3.36 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, K/BB = 2.9

Pitcher B is Felix Hernandez, Pitcher A is Ervin Santana, and they're facing each other today (currently 1-0 Angels)

Even with the no-hitter, I didn't realize that Santana has been so good this season.

Scioscia has been getting killed by fans and bloggers about continuing to start Mathis and some of the other ciphers in the OF. Looks like Reagins responded by calling up Conger and Trout but Im not exactly sure thats going to help them win the west..

That being said: good. Fuck the angels.

ps: Mathis this season - 70 games for a slash line of .176 .225 .254

read this in a bp chat, told from the "odd man out" book that i guess is abt a pitcher in low-a ball's experiences & was widely disputed but..

"An Angels employee briefly interrupted the revelry to bring us fifth leftover hot dogs from the concession stand's Weenie Wednesday promotion.

"I took my hot dog over to my locker and began to undress. That was when things got interesting. When I turned around, I saw the dark, naked bodies of two young Dominicans hovering around the hot dogs. Erick Aybar and Alberto Callaspo ... were inseparable and spoke no English -- the most one of them had ever said to me was "Why-ya-ya-ya-ya-yeah!" after I'd pitched a scoreless inning the week before.

"Gradually, more of my teammates turned to watch as Aybar's and Callaspo's naked bodies circled the food. We all knew they were up to something no good. Two naked heterosexual teenagers don't stand that close together for that long next to a box of hot dogs without something happening.

"Suddenly, Callaspo took one of the hot dogs out of its bun and deep-throated it. Then he took the bun and put it around Aybar's flaccid (etc etc) and poured ketchup on it. Jaws dropped -- Aybar was a willing participant. Then Callaspo bent over and pretended to eat the Dominican (etc etc etc) hot dog. When he did that, we all screamed, "Nooooo!"

"Getting the reaction he'd desired, Callaspo turned to a few of us and said, "I no gay. You gay" and burst into a fit of laughter. Callaspo slapped Aybar on the ass and the two laughed all the way to the shower."
