"{Lance Broadway}'s taken his shirt off, he takes a running start from Ivan's left-hand side, punching Ivan in the left side of the face, knocking him out. It broke his orbital socket, broke his cheekbone...shattered his nose, detached his retina...."

Sorrels said that McGuire kicked Pinney in the face after he had dropped to his knees. Afterwards, according to Sorrels, a brawl broke out and Broadway punched several women, knocking one out.

Have we forgotten the Laird brothers arrest? Now with Grandpa:

http://bases.nbcsports.com/2010/01/gerald-lairds-arrest-involved-nba-players-wife.html.php

Gerald Laird insisted afterward that the whole thing was just a misunderstanding, but now the Arizona Republic has some further details. Chief among them is that the entire incident started when the Laird brothers' 70-year-old grandfather allegedly touched the wife of Celtics player Eddie House "inappropriately" while they were all in the arena's "lounge" area.

Damon and his wife were pulled over at around 1:23 a.m. on Feb. 19 in Windermere, Fla. after cops say he was swerving on the road and driving erratically.

Once a cop stopped Damon ... body cam footage captured the 47-year-old ex-Yankee and Red Sox outfielder admitting to drinking before getting behind the wheel.

Then, an intense standoff between the officer, the ex-MLB star and the baseball player's wife ensued.

In the video, you can see the officer ordered Damon and his wife, Michelle Mangan-Damon, to stay in the car, but neither complied ... and a pushing and shoving squabble broke out.

At one point, the officer grabbed Mangan-Damon's wrist ... before Johnny got involved to separate the two.

The bumping and pushing got so heated, the officer's body camera was actually knocked to the ground.

Fortunately for all parties, backup arrived, and officers were able to settle down the scene.

Damon and his wife repeatedly talked about their support for cops, mentioning over and over, "Blue lives matter."

And, at one point, Damon brought up his affinity for Trump to a cop, saying "Hey, bro, I'm a good f***ing guy. I know people are trying to target me because I'm a Trump supporter."

Damon was then asked to complete some field sobriety tests ... but you can see on the video, it doesn’t look like he exactly passed any of them with flying colors.

Damon was ultimately arrested and booked on multiple charges, including driving under the influence and resisting arrest without violence.

A police report later showed cops said Damon's blood-alcohol level was .30, nearly FOUR TIMES the legal limit.

update on Clevinger:

News broke in January that Mike Clevinger was under investigation from the league, as per allegations of domestic violence and child abuse. Major League Baseball announced the results of that investigation today, and Clevinger will not face any suspension or other discipline from the league.

MLB’s statement: “The comprehensive investigation included interviews of more than 15 individuals, in addition to Mr. Clevinger and the complainant, as well as a review of available documents, such as thousands of electronic communication records. The Office of the Commissioner has closed this investigation and, barring the receipt of any new information or evidence, the Office of the Commissioner will not be imposing discipline on Mr. Clevinger in connection with these allegations.

As part of his path forward, Mr. Clevinger has voluntarily agreed to submit to evaluations by the joint treatment boards under the collectively bargained policies, and to comply with any of the boards’ recommendations. MLB will continue to make support services available to Mr. Clevinger, his family, and other individuals involved in the investigation.”

I was reading about Derek Bell today (used him for Toronto/Houston on Immaculate Grid). I think I remember his weird retirement and first drug charge, but I didn't know about his recent troubles:

On April 20, 2006, Bell was charged with felony cocaine possession and possession of drug paraphernalia, after police found a warm crack pipe in the back seat of his car during a traffic stop. He was arrested again on December 2, 2008, facing three counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and one count of failure to appear in court on another charge of possession of drug paraphernalia from earlier in the year. Bell was arrested again on November 16, 2022, charged with possessing crack cocaine in Brooksville, Florida.

Sad.

Oh that’s a bummer about bell. Had no idea

FRAUDULENT STEAKS (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 9 October 2023 19:33 (two years ago)

If you remember, he went over to the Astros and had a couple of 100-RBI seasons (with only around ~20 HR in each). Then the Mets, then the Pirates, then this, at 32:

In spring training 2002, Bell learned that he would have to compete for the Pirates' starting right field job. Despite his poor 2001 season (and the fact he was hitting just .148 that spring), Bell did not feel that he needed to prove he was worthy of being a starter.

On March 18, Bell told reporters:

Nobody told me I was in competition. If there is competition, somebody better let me know. If there is competition, they better eliminate me out of the race and go ahead and do what they're going to do with me. I ain't never hit in spring training and I never will. If it ain't settled with me out there, then they can trade me. I ain't going out there to hurt myself in spring training battling for a job. If it is [a competition], then I'm going into 'Operation Shutdown.' Tell them exactly what I said. I haven't competed for a job since 1991.

Bell left the team on March 29, was released two days later, and never played pro baseball again. Still on the hook for Bell's guaranteed two-year, ten-million dollar contract, the Pirates paid him his $4.5 million though he did not play for them. Bell moved onto his yacht, Bell 14 (his name and uniform number), a 58-foot (18 m) Sea Ray 580. New York Post writer Tom Keegan described the incident by calling Bell "the perfect Pirate given that he lives on a boat and steals money."

r/baseball identified a pitch Clase tried to throw a game with however his dastardly scheme failed because Pages:

https://www.mlb.com/video/emmanuel-clase-swinging-strike-to-andy-pages

27. Specifically, on or about May 28, 2025, the Cleveland Guardians played an MLB game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The game began at approximately 1:10 p.m. Before the game, at approximately 1:00 p.m., Bettor-1 sent a text message to the defendant EMMANUEL CLASE DE LA CRUZ confirming whether CLASE was, "(a)ll set." CLASE responded, "(yjes." At approximately 3:36 p.m., in the middle of the game, Bettor-1 and Bettor-2 each placed wagers totaling approximately $4,000 (including a parlay bet) that a pitch
thrown by CLASE would be a Ball/HBP. CLASE threw a pitch that appeared to be a ball, but the batter swung, resulting in a strike and leading Bettor-1 and Bettor-2 to lose their wagers.

28. Approximately 20 minutes after Bettor-1 lost the wager on May 28, 2025, Bettor-1 sent a text message to the defendant EMMANUEL CLASE DE LA CRUZ-a gif image of a man hanging himself with toilet paper. Even though the Cleveland Guardians won the game, approximately 10 minutes later, CLASE responded to Bettor-1 with a gif image of a
