The Giants are built around pitching, and it starts with their lithe, lethal little gymnast on the mound.

Haha... at the game I went to Huff hit a triple and looked like he was in cardiac arrest. This is kinda funny, let me dig up this article from the other night.
― ✌.✰|ʘ‿ʘ|✰.✌ (Steve Shasta), Wednesday, 14 April 2010 21:11 (fifteen years ago)
When he reached third after his triple, the dugout was in stitches and Huff shot third-base coach Tim Flannery a look that said, "What do I have to do to hit one out of here?"
Congratulations, Aubrey. You just got AT&T'd.
"That's pretty much all I've got," Huff said of the drive. "If it doesn't go out, it is what it is. If it goes into that corner it's going to be an automatic triple. I haven't had more than two triples in a season in my life. I think I'll match that this year."
.....
"I told Bengie when I scored from first on his double, 'Just hit it out of the park next time,' " Huff said. "Next time I was on second base and he did. I was very appreciative of that."

Losing Gonzalez alone probably puts them out of the running. But in any case, tell me that the influx outweighs the losses:

― Mark C, Sunday, 23 January 2011 21:56 (fourteen years ago)
I'm very happy with the Padres offseason but honestly they have no chance of competing this year. Losing Gonzalez is brutal but losing an innings eater like Garland will be tough on the bullpen. The young guys are not going to be pitching deep into games very often. I think they could compete in 2012 though.

From Heyman's PR piece for agents he knows:
Hayes, a well-known lawyer, got $22 million over two years for Aubrey Huff. While Huff played a vital role on the World Series winning Giants, that price seems a tad high. It certainly seemed high to another Series hero, Juan Uribe, whom Giants people believe left for the archrival Dodgers for $1 million more than they offered ($21 million over three years, as opposed to $20 million) because he was annoyed to see Huff get a salary so much greater. True or not, Giants people joking referred to Uribe's call as "leaving in a Huff.''

Pablo Sandoval has revealed that he's worked with Barry Bonds this offseason on improving his plate discipline. We seem to be looking at a highly motivated Kung Fu Panda. Not only has Sandoval lost reportedly over 20 pounds this offseason, but he's wisely seeking hitting advice from one of the best of all-time. It appears he's taking GM Brian Sabean's threat of starting him in the minors to heart and looking to bounce back from a hugely disappointing 2010 season. There's big-time rebound potential here.
