cankles, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 20:02 (eighteen years ago)

i think ryan howard will be fuking you in the ass

james blount, Thursday, 8 March 2007 05:42 (eighteen years ago)

I thought Cox's contract was up after this year.

This team isn't going to fuk anyone but the Nats.

Rock Hardy, Thursday, 8 March 2007 13:59 (eighteen years ago)

they blew, what, 29 saves last year? if they won even a third of those games they would've won the wild card last year. with Wickman on board for a full season, and Gonzalez and the (hopefully not seriously injured) Soriano hanging around, the bullpen shouldn't be a problem this year. they still have a great offense and the rotation should be better than '06. there's no reason to think they're incapable of contention.

Garrett Martin, Thursday, 8 March 2007 17:37 (eighteen years ago)

lol is dat really blount? anyway yeah, last year's biggest weakness (bullpen) is now their biggest strength. it just remains to be seen if anyone in the rotation besides smoltz can delivah. also, druw's in a CONTRACT YEAR~~~! he is gonna blow sum foolz up imo.

cankles, Thursday, 8 March 2007 18:18 (eighteen years ago)

I can't check stats right now (TUBES B SLOW), but I was under the impression that the Braves' offense was mediocre @ best?

David R., Thursday, 8 March 2007 18:21 (eighteen years ago)

the Braves scored the second-most runs in the NL last year, less than the Phillies, but more than the Mets. they've lost LaRoche, who had an excellent second half, and Giles, who was just awful, but unless Chipper misses more time than usual there's no reason to expect a notable drop-off in offense.

of course Mike Hampton had to go and squander some of my hope this morning, but that's what that dude does best, so I can't begrudge him too much.

Garrett Martin, Thursday, 8 March 2007 18:32 (eighteen years ago)

two weeks pass...
Nice, locking up McCann for six years.

Rock Hardy, Friday, 23 March 2007 03:16 (eighteen years ago)

and Brian McCann WILL be the National League's MVP for 2007.

Garrett Martin, Thursday, 5 April 2007 14:33 (eighteen years ago)

I don't see that happening, but I'll give you top 5, maybe top 3. Last night my wife asked me "Did you just say 'BRIAN MCCANN, YOU MY SWEET, SWEET BOO!!'?"

Rock Hardy, Thursday, 5 April 2007 15:08 (eighteen years ago)

he's certainly the mvp of the braves. i loved that they walked him just now to get at francoeur.

cankles, Thursday, 5 April 2007 20:58 (eighteen years ago)

i hope blount feels like a douche for not repping his BWOYZ!!!!!!!!!

cankles, Thursday, 5 April 2007 21:01 (eighteen years ago)

Two of three from the almighty Mets, and a great start from their not-even-number-five starter. The excitement is starting to come back, but I've always been a pushover for this team.

Rock Hardy, Monday, 9 April 2007 14:59 (eighteen years ago)

I always get so excited when I see Braves baseball is on TBS, then I'm glassy-eyed and bored in about two innings. Do I just hate the NL?

call all destroyer, Monday, 9 April 2007 15:18 (eighteen years ago)

Could it be Caray-related?

Andy K, Monday, 9 April 2007 15:42 (eighteen years ago)

I'd take Skip's mocking of TBS's other programming over Chip's dull "professionalism" any day of the week. I'd bet set if the Braves Radio Network could find an affiliate in Boston.

Garrett Martin, Tuesday, 10 April 2007 14:10 (eighteen years ago)

Skip seems to have a hard time maintaining his interest in any game that's not a nailbiter.

Rock Hardy, Tuesday, 10 April 2007 18:55 (eighteen years ago)

as long as I don't have to listen to Joe Buck, I'm cool with whoever.

i'm not gonna get too stoked about them too early. watch them get swept by the nats or something now.

cankles, Tuesday, 10 April 2007 21:02 (eighteen years ago)

Tim Hudson: 0.62 ERA

-- cankles, Saturday, April 21, 2007 5:31 AM (57 minutes ago)

(mothafuckas)

-- cankles, Saturday, April 21, 2007 5:31 AM (57 minutes ago)

The other night, Joe Simpson was hinting around the idea that one of Hudson's problems last year was Roger McDowell, but that they're starting to learn to get along.

In the meantime, this thread title isn't true anymore, Willy Aybar got home from his Lost Weekend and found out he wasn't a player anymore, and Francoeur already has a two-walk game this year. (And he walked last night with the bases loaded instead of trying to hit a taco bellgrande.)

Rock Hardy, Saturday, 21 April 2007 11:39 (eighteen years ago)

idk i remember hearing b4 the season started that cox's intention was to retire in two years. so this sort of fits in with that imo. and yeah, francoeur looks a lot better than i was anticipating.

i will probably shun the team forever if/when they let andruw walk.

cankles, Saturday, 21 April 2007 12:56 (eighteen years ago)

He's doing fuck-all with his contract year so far. Maybe he likes it in Atl.

Rock Hardy, Saturday, 21 April 2007 15:16 (eighteen years ago)

He most definitely likes the strip clubs in Atlanta.

Garrett Martin, Monday, 23 April 2007 15:05 (eighteen years ago)

Son of a bitch! Cox needs to be slapped sideways for sending Hudson back out for the 9th.

Rock Hardy, Thursday, 26 April 2007 01:36 (eighteen years ago)

I'm still waiting for him to be slapped for having BRIAN MCCANN bunt w/ 2 on, no outs, and a THREE RUN LEAD. & then, after McCann got popped on the finger w/ the pitch, he tried bunting AGAIN.

Maybe McCann needs a slap, too.

David R., Thursday, 26 April 2007 14:16 (eighteen years ago)

Maybe Francouer does, too, just because he annoys the shit out of me.

David R., Thursday, 26 April 2007 14:16 (eighteen years ago)

yeah that was some grady little pedro shit right there. i was listening in the car and i about shit myself when the 4th run was knocked in.

cankles, Thursday, 26 April 2007 14:48 (eighteen years ago)

lmbo, cox would've been run out of town years ago if this city actually cared abt baseball

francoeur's esteem has risen in my eyes since i found out he's a bosox fan! his old man took him to fenway when he was a newborn just like mine did ;____;

cankles, Thursday, 26 April 2007 14:52 (eighteen years ago)

Francoeur's like a tiny-brained dinosaur that gets kicked and says "ouch" a month later, but eventually he does learn. There was a funny interview clip yesterday with him talking about how the '06 season taught him that whatever he was doing in late '05 couldn't continue. It only took him ALL YEAR to figure it out, yay, hi fives!

I rag on him a lot, but I actually do like him, and he's been good for the Mystery Trainers.

Rock Hardy, Thursday, 26 April 2007 18:29 (eighteen years ago)

i'm irritated by him because of all these non-baseball things that i associate him with, but he's probably a nice guy and he is improving as a player. i guess i cant hate on homie

cankles, Thursday, 26 April 2007 18:53 (eighteen years ago)

Frenchy must be showing some more discipline at the plate this year, as he already has 8 walks. I swear I don't think the guy had that many before the all star break last year.

earlnash, Saturday, 28 April 2007 00:02 (eighteen years ago)

Second game in a row that Cox has mishandled the pitching staff in the 9th. Arguably the third game in a row, since he brought Wickman in with a five run lead two out of the last three games. Wickman's tired, he's worked four of the last five games. Quit trotting him out there like he's Ray King, Bobby.

Rock Hardy, Saturday, 28 April 2007 21:33 (eighteen years ago)

I didn't see Saturday, but Wickman looked out of his game on Sunday. They put him on the DL today, so I suppose using him the last four games was not that good an idea.

Andruw Jones got one of the most awkward hits I have ever seen. The guy I think both hit his bat off the ground and nearly fell down hitting a single. Jones then followed it up with a terrible slide into home plate. They definitely were not his most graceful moments on a ball diamond.

I don't get Frenchy in the field. The guy can make a crazy sliding catch like the one he did to save the game, but if you hit the ball right at him the guy has a 1 in 3 chance it will skip by him to the wall. I think the guy needs some bi-focals or something.

earlnash, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 01:35 (eighteen years ago)

Mark Redman has the worst looking delivery in baseball. That jerky three-piece throw is one pitch away from a ruined shoulder at any time.

Rock Hardy, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 23:42 (eighteen years ago)

Most Ejections, Manager

131 John McGraw
125 Bobby Cox
124 Leo Durocher
97 Earl Weaver
86 Frankie Frisch
80 Paul Richards
73 Tony LaRussa
71 Lou Piniella
68 Clark Griffith
66 Joe Torre

Dr Morbius, Friday, 4 May 2007 15:53 (eighteen years ago)

Bobby'll get there.

I like how, at least twice a game, there'll be a close pitch and the director will lovingly hold a shot of Cox saying "jesus CHRIST."

Rock Hardy, Friday, 4 May 2007 16:34 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah Chipper, NO SHIT

Dr Morbius, Monday, 14 May 2007 19:15 (eighteen years ago)

OH SHIT, SMOLTZIE, FINGERS AREN'T SUPPOSED TO BEND THAT DIRECTION.

Rock Hardy, Tuesday, 15 May 2007 00:39 (eighteen years ago)

there's a greater injustice that remains unaddressed:

"It's not fair for those who can control themselves. Some guys just like to have a couple of beers to calm their nerves after a game."
--Braves center fielder Andruw Jones

"When guys hang around and do drink, they're usually just trying to let the traffic die down. People know what to do. It's not fair for any team or Major League Baseball to ban alcohol. We're all man enough to control ourselves."
--Jones

cankles, Tuesday, 15 May 2007 07:20 (eighteen years ago)

via SABR-L:

on May 2, Braves catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia broke the
prestigious record for "longest MLB surname", with 14 letters. The
previous record of 13 had lasted 113 years since Gene DeMontreville
set it in 1894, and was shared by 15 players.

Dr Morbius, Friday, 18 May 2007 20:03 (eighteen years ago)

the Mets shall fall before ATL's freakishly long surnames!

Garrett Martin, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 04:00 (eighteen years ago)

short names were the prob last night, Sosa and Sele.

Dr Morbius, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 13:21 (eighteen years ago)

Until last night I figured Sele was selling tires somewhere.

Garrett Martin, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 14:43 (eighteen years ago)

i think ryan howard will be fuking you in the ass
-- james blount, Thursday, March 8, 2007 5:42 AM (2 months ago)

indeed

bobby bedelia, Monday, 28 May 2007 02:53 (eighteen years ago)

haha, and i was just idly thinking to myself the other day, "ha, serves blount right!!!!"

braves have lost 10 of last 14. what does it mean that they've won every series versus the mets, but have gotten their asses kicked by the nats and phillies?

cankles, Monday, 28 May 2007 03:45 (eighteen years ago)

omfg LOL!

am0n, Monday, 4 June 2007 19:10 (eighteen years ago)

i'm so proud!!! the part where he makes a sandcastle is amazing.

cankles, Monday, 4 June 2007 19:59 (eighteen years ago)

that and the grenade throw of the pitchers rosin !

am0n, Monday, 4 June 2007 20:19 (eighteen years ago)

Man, there's going to be FITES before the night's over.

Rock Hardy, Monday, 11 June 2007 00:32 (eighteen years ago)

It sounds like Lilly got a raw deal.

mattbot, Monday, 11 June 2007 01:01 (eighteen years ago)

Woody Williams is some bullshit.

David R., Friday, 3 August 2007 01:23 (eighteen years ago)

braves have scorned 50 runs in the last 4 games

cankles, Friday, 3 August 2007 04:47 (eighteen years ago)

wait my bad, 49

cankles, Friday, 3 August 2007 04:48 (eighteen years ago)

And the Astros have now given up 53 runs in their last 4 games.

And for the first time in franchise history have given up double digit runs in 4 straight games.

boldbury, Friday, 3 August 2007 05:35 (eighteen years ago)

this game tampered with my emotions

Garrett Martin, Friday, 3 August 2007 13:30 (eighteen years ago)

and actually made me like twenty minutes late to work, god dammit

Garrett Martin, Friday, 3 August 2007 13:31 (eighteen years ago)

Dear folks who think signing Willie Harris to an actual contract & having him man CF full-time qualifies as a "smart move":

2004 (w/ the White Sox): 129 games played, 262 / 343 / 323

-- David R., Wednesday, August 1, 2007 12:04 AM (2 days ago) Bookmark Link

Thanks, Morbs.

-- Rock Hardy, Wednesday, August 1, 2007 12:22 AM (2 days ago) Bookmark Link

Yeah Daver, don't cite ACTUAL PERFORMANCE facts around the Krukites here! They hate numbers!

Dr Morbius, Friday, 3 August 2007 14:01 (eighteen years ago)

One thing that's assured is that Willie Harris shouldn't play 3B.

polyphonic, Friday, 3 August 2007 17:21 (eighteen years ago)

I love numbers! But I also think the numbers from 130 games in 2004 mean as much or as little as the numbers from 225 ABs this year. I sure as hell don't advocate paying Harris $5M/year based on anything he's ever done -- Dave brought that number up, not me.

Rock Hardy, Friday, 3 August 2007 17:53 (eighteen years ago)

Joe M credits Glavine's ability to throw strikes.

Andy K, Monday, 6 August 2007 00:04 (eighteen years ago)

Will he do it TONITE?

P Niekro looks younger than I remember him from his last playing years.

Andy K, Monday, 6 August 2007 00:05 (eighteen years ago)

I am senile LOL.

Andy K, Monday, 6 August 2007 00:18 (eighteen years ago)

Frenchy has made two great throws catching runners at the plate tonight against the Phillies.

earlnash, Monday, 13 August 2007 01:16 (eighteen years ago)

...and then a third into the crowd

mookieproof, Monday, 13 August 2007 04:47 (eighteen years ago)

his glove has been getting better and better all year. and honestly he is really awesome at the plate since the ASB. i guess i wrote him off too soon!~

cankles, Monday, 13 August 2007 07:00 (eighteen years ago)

great Miller call on Frenchy overthrow: TOUCHDOWN!

This in-game interview garbage is going to be all 9 innings soon, isn't it?

Dr Morbius, Monday, 13 August 2007 14:05 (eighteen years ago)

I love how they missed the Braves scoring a run because they were too busy showing another replay of Hank Aaron's congratulatory video from last week.

Garrett Martin, Monday, 13 August 2007 17:49 (eighteen years ago)

Big Tex!

Dr Morbius, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 19:09 (eighteen years ago)

It's like everybody else said "whew, Big Tex is here, he'll save us" and quit trying.

Rock Hardy, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 19:37 (eighteen years ago)

uh, okay, I made that happen with the power of my doubting mind.

Rock Hardy, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 21:00 (eighteen years ago)

YAY BRAVES!!!!!

Dr Morbius, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 21:36 (eighteen years ago)

hahaha, I QUIT WATCHING IN THE SEVENTH INNING :(

my only hope for them at this point is that they can ruin the playoff hopes of other teams (like, say, philly). even if they did make the playoffs they wouldn't get anywhere, since you can count all their decent pitchers on one hand.

cankles, Thursday, 6 September 2007 05:55 (eighteen years ago)

JOHN SMOLTZ IS DOING SOMETHING THAT INVOLVES THE LETTER N AND H

I HOPE THIS IS NOT A JINX

His slider is insane.

Rock Hardy, Saturday, 8 September 2007 01:36 (eighteen years ago)

lol

hstencil, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 01:06 (eighteen years ago)

well, the Bravos are just 3 behind the Phils going into Tuesday. Sufficient motive to sweep 'em.

Dr Morbius, Monday, 24 September 2007 13:36 (eighteen years ago)

i'm not sure whose playoffs hopes i'm more interested in seeing be crushed - philly's or nym's. either way we win~~

cankles, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 06:36 (eighteen years ago)

atlanta has the most pythagorean wins in the division btw~~

cankles, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 06:39 (eighteen years ago)

you win the RS/RA trophy then (or Bobby Cox SHOULD retire)

Dr Morbius, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 13:26 (eighteen years ago)

i hope he fucking does, that shitbag is a fraud and always has been. i can't wait until pendleton takes over.

cankles, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 15:42 (eighteen years ago)

he's gonna be a Hall of Famer,dude!

Dr Morbius, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 15:43 (eighteen years ago)

hahaha dude i was going to make an aside along the lines of "if he gets into the HoF you can officially write the whole thing off as a joke," the guy's a chickenshit and should've been run outta town years ago. what the hell does he bring to the table anyway? besides his masterful strategic acumen. will it really be so hard to find another guy who can clap and shout "go get 'em Jeffery!!!" from the bench?

cankles, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 19:44 (eighteen years ago)

Dude, you are HIGH. On DRUGS. Cox is grebt.

Rock Hardy, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 13:30 (eighteen years ago)

He certainly belongs there as much as Lasorda.

Hudson and Smoltz better come through...

Dr Morbius, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 14:23 (eighteen years ago)

THANKS, LARRY

Dr Morbius, Thursday, 27 September 2007 13:30 (eighteen years ago)

So long, Andruw

Brooklynsnakes (33 minutes ago)
ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR DAMN MIND??????? Who do you think is going to give you Andruw $20 MILLION A YEAR! My Yankees would not give you that if they were hungry for a centerfielder (ok maybe they would sign you if Melky had not come on so strong). Dude, in your walk year you hit .222! You are the Venezuelan Richie Sexson. Go dive into the Dodgers. They're waiting for you. Juan Pierre, please pick up the white courtesy phone!!

Rock Hardy, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 21:59 (eighteen years ago)

lol, ya i heard this afternoon. it's amazing... a year ago now i would've been ready to boycott this team if they let my nigga go. and i honestly still do LUV ANDRUW. i love watching dude play center, and i just love how *~*~*~*kewl*~*~*~* he is. but dude just fukkin sux now.

btw, just for kicks go back and look at his pecota writeups from 10 years ago, they're.... something.

1997

A comparable prospect to Alex Rodriguez. He’s going to be a slightly better hitter than Rodriguez, and probably will develop more strongly. I wouldn’t trade him for Rodriguez or vice versa. Probably one of the top ten outfielders in baseball right now, and will be the very best within four years. The Vladimir projections aren’t meant to be more than a one-year tool, and we all know that iterative modeling is a dicey proposition at best, but let’s throw caution to the wind and let Vladimir project his entire career. Just for fun.

Works for me. Alex vs. Andruw will be the next generation’s DiMaggio vs. Williams, but the arguments will be more equal. Why hasn’t Atlanta offered him a 10-year, $50 million deal? I don’t know. The scary part is that Andruw could take it, and be 30 when it ended.

cankles, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 00:14 (eighteen years ago)
