this is where we discuss the continuing education of mssrs. loewen, bedard, cabrera & markakis; anticipate the arrivals of rad liz, garrett olson & nolan reimold; grimace at the "tactical" shenanigans of sam perlozzo and marvel at the majesty of leo mazzone's moustache all while campaigning to FREE J.R. House!

baltimore and canadian pitchers: what's up w/ that?

j.q higgins, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 00:40 (eighteen years ago)

bedard has retired 15 out of 16 batters in two outings this spring.

j.q higgins, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 19:49 (eighteen years ago)

"it happens every spring"

Dr Morbius, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 19:54 (eighteen years ago)

okay...no walks for daniel cabrera in two outings. one hit allowed to metropolitans in three innings/36 pitches.

j.q higgins, Thursday, 8 March 2007 19:23 (eighteen years ago)

Wait, J.R. House is still playing somewhere? I thought he retired once the Pirates got rid of him.

Bill Bary, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:07 (eighteen years ago)

nope. he signed a minor league k w/ the o's. i'd rather see him in the backup role than paul bako.

yeesh.

j.q higgins, Friday, 9 March 2007 20:30 (eighteen years ago)

strike!

I am psyched to watch Johan mow em down tonight.

Dr Morbius, Monday, 2 April 2007 19:49 (eighteen years ago)

you picked the wrong lawn, doc. king felix!

j.q higgins, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 01:07 (eighteen years ago)

"On his way out of the postgame interview room at the Metrodome, Baltimore Orioles Manager Sam Perlozzo took a wrong step and ended up in a janitor's closet."

--and that sort of sums up the season opening series w/ the twins.

j.q higgins, Friday, 6 April 2007 15:25 (eighteen years ago)

ts: chris ray vs danys baez

mookieproof, Saturday, 7 April 2007 21:11 (eighteen years ago)

ugh. i'm still holding out hope that baez can sort of right his ship so they can trade him in july...so they can call up rad liz!

j.q higgins, Monday, 9 April 2007 13:24 (eighteen years ago)

daniel cabrera:

7.2 IP, 7H, 2R, 2ER, 0BB, 5K

ZERO WALKS?!

j.q higgins, Monday, 9 April 2007 21:46 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, he shut 'em down. Looked like everything had movement.

JR House still exists?

Garrett Martin, Tuesday, 10 April 2007 14:08 (eighteen years ago)

yes. he's no world beater, but i'd rather have him taken up space on the bench than alberto castillo or paul bako!

club house leader kevin millar does his best ray lewis impersonation (no one was harmed).

j.q higgins, Tuesday, 10 April 2007 14:31 (eighteen years ago)

i want to nominate sam perlozzo for bullpen grinder hall of fame.

i mean, wow.

j.q higgins, Thursday, 12 April 2007 13:31 (eighteen years ago)

first sweep of the blue jays since 1984.

steve trachsel is a golden god.

j.q higgins, Sunday, 22 April 2007 22:12 (eighteen years ago)

Steven Goldman:

One of the great pleasures of 2007 baseball is watching Jose Reyes run out a triple (Compare/contrast to watching Miguel Tejada walk to first on a grounder. This answer will make up 25% of your grade).

Dr Morbius, Tuesday, 24 April 2007 19:47 (eighteen years ago)

one month passes...

Davey?

Dr Morbius, Wednesday, 30 May 2007 15:25 (eighteen years ago)

2nd place in the NL east is grounds for getting fired?

Steve Shasta, Wednesday, 30 May 2007 15:40 (eighteen years ago)

AL east.

Steve Shasta, Wednesday, 30 May 2007 15:40 (eighteen years ago)

Shasta, I assume / hope you're being cheeky, but because I like stating the obvious: being the best of the worst of a division that's break-even only because the Red Sox are 21 games above .500 isn't something I'd want on my CV.

David R., Wednesday, 30 May 2007 20:01 (eighteen years ago)

Also, re: the comment about Tejada mailing in ground-outs - does every division have an SS that lollygags to first? Orlando Cabrera did it TWICE during an Angeles / Yankees tilt (and, thanks to watching the YES broadcast, I was treated to Michael Kay's How To Play Baseball The W[r/h]ite Way seminar) (with contributions from Dr. Hibbert) (sp).

David R., Wednesday, 30 May 2007 20:06 (eighteen years ago)

honestly, if he skipped to first on groundouts, i coudn't care less.

now, if he were a bit more jeter on some balls up the middle, well that would be just totally jeter.

Sam Perlazzo is the heart of your problem

Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved, Monday, 18 June 2007 15:19 (eighteen years ago)

and he's OUUUUUUT (see above)

Dr Morbius, Monday, 18 June 2007 20:31 (eighteen years ago)

wow...o's are so screwed, it's hard to fathom.

i think girardi is no upgrade over perlozzo whatsoever. this is the absolute most uncreative front office of all time.

yeesh.

j.q higgins, Tuesday, 19 June 2007 13:24 (eighteen years ago)

Hopefully Girardi has learned his lesson about working for terrible owners

zaxxon25, Tuesday, 19 June 2007 13:30 (eighteen years ago)

won't Andy MacPhail fix everything?

Dr Morbius, Tuesday, 19 June 2007 14:11 (eighteen years ago)

thank god joe gorardi saved the o's from themselves...bring on davey johnson mk ii!

j.q higgins, Thursday, 21 June 2007 17:52 (eighteen years ago)

I think they need someone with a track record, and someone who can calm a fucked up situation. Someone Torre-esque, I guess. I actually think Dusty Baker would be a good choice if MacPhail can convince him not to overcook the young pitchers. Baker led two teams to the playoffs, and his players generally like him.

polyphonic, Thursday, 21 June 2007 17:58 (eighteen years ago)

Davey Johnson would also be a good pick!

polyphonic, Thursday, 21 June 2007 17:59 (eighteen years ago)

yeah, i think most folks in o's land are most concerned about how dusty would handle the young pitching.

j.q higgins, Thursday, 21 June 2007 18:08 (eighteen years ago)

with Pitcher Abuse Points!

Dr Morbius, Thursday, 21 June 2007 19:04 (eighteen years ago)

WOoo I gots my tickets in the mail today, hurrah!

The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall, Thursday, 28 June 2007 20:13 (eighteen years ago)

fer when?

j.q higgins, Friday, 29 June 2007 13:00 (eighteen years ago)

yeah, i think most folks in o's land are most concerned about how dusty would handle the young pitching.

THERE'S NO BETTER WAY TO LEARN THAN BY DOING!

(And doing and doing and doing until your throwing arm extends to an inch off the ground when standing straight.)

Andy K, Friday, 29 June 2007 13:34 (eighteen years ago)

Aug 24!

The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall, Friday, 29 June 2007 15:52 (eighteen years ago)

btw - if you'd like to recommend a decent neighbourhood to stay in, that would be most helpful, cheers!

The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall, Friday, 29 June 2007 15:54 (eighteen years ago)

well, what's your budget? i'm not a b'more expert, but i know that most places worth staying in town aren't going to be very far off the beaten path.

i had to stay up there a couple nights in feb and there was a reasonable joint called the tremont plaza. actually less expensive than the holiday inn up there and WAY nicer.

j.q higgins, Friday, 29 June 2007 16:19 (eighteen years ago)

two weeks pass...

brian roberts is a pretty good ballplayer.

mookieproof, Saturday, 28 July 2007 20:31 (eighteen years ago)

i'd like to change the name of this thread to the "why is steve trachsel still on the orioles?" thread.

ugh.

at least bedard was pitcher of the al month for july!

j.q higgins, Friday, 3 August 2007 13:15 (eighteen years ago)

FREED!

j.q higgins, Tuesday, 14 August 2007 13:15 (eighteen years ago)

Jamie Walker, supplier of Yankee Magic.

Dr Morbius, Wednesday, 15 August 2007 20:20 (eighteen years ago)

yeah, that was a bummer, but o's 8-4 vs los yanquis this year!

j.q higgins, Wednesday, 15 August 2007 21:17 (eighteen years ago)

birdland rejoices at signing of wieters and arrieta!

j.q higgins, Thursday, 16 August 2007 15:13 (eighteen years ago)

Did Mazzone rock til he exploded last night?

At least they didn't cough up 36 like the 1897 Louisville Colonels.

Dr Morbius, Thursday, 23 August 2007 14:03 (eighteen years ago)

well... I'm glad I got to see an *authentic* O's game friday!!!

The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall, Sunday, 26 August 2007 07:31 (eighteen years ago)

lol i went to see the aberdeen thunderbirds vs yankees (single a minor league teams). nice new stadium but man were those players young and awful

am0n, Sunday, 26 August 2007 18:38 (eighteen years ago)

isn't that the point of watching single A?

The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall, Monday, 27 August 2007 03:50 (eighteen years ago)

awesome...while the o's are sucking badly, they did manage to trade steve trachsel for the 7th rated prospect in the cubbies system (scott moore) AND ROCKY CHERRY! maybe not as talented as boof bonser, but rocky cherry is up there in the awesome name department.

j.q higgins, Friday, 31 August 2007 19:22 (eighteen years ago)

why is Bedard 'day-to-day'?

Dr Morbius, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 14:54 (eighteen years ago)

strained right oblique

Steve Shasta, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 17:17 (eighteen years ago)

did baseball trainers just find out what the oblique muscle was or was it just that it used to be referred to generally as "abdominal"? seems like an awfully common injury these days whereas i don't recall hearing about it all even a few years back.

j.q higgins, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 17:23 (eighteen years ago)

so, it's late in the season, the orioles are in their traditional september death spiral, so that means it's also about time for someone to be implicated in a PEDs investigation, right?

thank you, jay gibbons (steroids AND HGH).

j.q higgins, Monday, 10 September 2007 14:51 (eighteen years ago)

Either that, or it's time for Cabrera to bean someone after being bunted upon.

Andy K, Monday, 10 September 2007 14:59 (eighteen years ago)

O's onle one (1) game ahead of TB for work record in the AL East.

Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 15:14 (eighteen years ago)

they better work it

Dr Morbius, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 15:25 (eighteen years ago)

Speaking as a J's fan - I am very glad this team exists.

The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 19:49 (eighteen years ago)

goes around comes around, i guess.

j.q higgins, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 21:05 (eighteen years ago)

Daniel Cabrera GREW 2 INCHES since last season?!

Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved, Monday, 17 September 2007 23:37 (eighteen years ago)

2 inches out of the strike zone?

mookieproof, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 02:00 (eighteen years ago)

VICTOR ZAMBRANO arrives

Dr Morbius, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 13:21 (eighteen years ago)

WAHT

Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 22:18 (eighteen years ago)

oh, but it's so much better than that: wondering how on earth they could top the signing of russ ortiz last year, flannaquette signed victor zambrano AND victor santos.

until last week, more vics than they'd had in a month.

thank you, thank you...

j.q higgins, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 22:51 (eighteen years ago)

three weeks pass...

leo mazzone: gone!

also, jr house has filed for free agency.

j.q higgins, Friday, 12 October 2007 20:51 (eighteen years ago)

five months pass...

ha I guess no one cares enough to start a thread for this year. I half listened to the game today and got temporarily excited about this season not entirely sucking. Aubrey Huff said something post game about how ppl had already written the team off and so they could just play w/o any pressure which helps since he plays best when his teams are doomed.

Then I was thinking that despite some bright spots realistically they have like the worst bullpen in the AL East and starting pitching already showing real weak spots lol Daniel Cabrera so I'm just going to let this stand as memorial to 1ST PLACE IN AL EAST!!11!!!1
