Wait...what was I saying?

j.q higgins, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 14:15 (eighteen years ago)

It's too bad Jimmy B traded away his bullpen depth for run-of-the-mill guys like Felipe Lopez & Austin Kearns - given the state of their rotation, their pitching staff sure could use the help!

AND YES THIS IS SO NOT A JOKE

David R., Wednesday, 7 March 2007 16:14 (eighteen years ago)

actually, i don't think the bullpen is in bad shape.

i would guess they'll make a trade or two once things at camp shake out a bit. guess it kind of depends on whether or not casto and broadway can play the outfield.

j.q higgins, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 16:48 (eighteen years ago)

They are going to be incredibly shitty.

Oakland Mike, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 21:06 (eighteen years ago)

Will M., Wednesday, 14 March 2007 13:36 (eighteen years ago)

wha?

j.q higgins, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 14:11 (eighteen years ago)

I think I hit clear AND submit.

I move that this thread be renamed "MONTREAL CALLED, IT WANTS ITS LOSING TEAM BACK." Because we do. Or, I do. And at LEAST twelve or thirteen other people, I'm sure! Are Nationals turnouts good? Like, how many people/game so far?

Will M., Wednesday, 14 March 2007 17:29 (eighteen years ago)

Nationals ranked #21 in home attendance in 2006 with 26.5k per game (almost double the Marlins' draw).

The Nats were #24 overall (incl. home/away).

Steve Shasta, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 17:56 (eighteen years ago)

wow. kind of eery how close b'more and washington are, though, the aggregate is at least 1 million higher than b'more during its peak years last decade.

j.q higgins, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 18:04 (eighteen years ago)

btw, the new park will have a cherry blossom grove behind the bleachers. i think that's kind of cool. at the moment, it's on schedule, fwiw.

j.q higgins, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 18:22 (eighteen years ago)

i could see a potential problem when the leaves start blowing off in april. Hopefully the wind blows out.

Steve Shasta, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 21:01 (eighteen years ago)

It might be a problem, but it'd be a pretty problem.

Leee, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 21:21 (eighteen years ago)

The last thing that team will need is the wind blowing out.

:-(

Steve Shasta, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 23:20 (eighteen years ago)

(that was just a general sad face emoticon for the season to come, not in response to anyone's posts or anything).

Steve Shasta, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 23:21 (eighteen years ago)

four-oh in the bottom of the first!!

W i l l, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 23:29 (eighteen years ago)

Bill Carpenter (the MASN play-by-play milquetoast) doesn't sound like he's going to have much fun watching the Nats this year.

David R., Wednesday, 4 April 2007 00:41 (eighteen years ago)

http://www.geocities.com/mrbeaverfalls/bob4.jpg

W i l l, Wednesday, 4 April 2007 05:45 (eighteen years ago)

BOB Carpenter. Whatever - dude is Stockholm-Syndrome delusional. "Gee, whoda thunk these guys would suck after such a grebt spring training?" Also, what kinda team has TV promos featuring a non-closing reliever? OOH HE HAD A LOT OF HOLDS! TUNE IN TO WATCH A 10-4 DRUBBING! MASN - IT'S WHAT'S FOR DINNER!

David R., Wednesday, 4 April 2007 13:32 (eighteen years ago)

all i can say is: pretty grim.

at least zim is fun to watch and frankly, an outfield of kearns, church and casto/snelling isn't too bad.

the starting will be an adventure.

j.q higgins, Wednesday, 4 April 2007 14:07 (eighteen years ago)

make it stop.

Steve Shasta, Wednesday, 4 April 2007 18:02 (eighteen years ago)

:-O

Steve Shasta, Wednesday, 4 April 2007 20:05 (eighteen years ago)

at least Chico got rocked

W i l l, Wednesday, 4 April 2007 20:42 (eighteen years ago)

why you hating on chico?

they pulled it out bottom of the 9!

j.q higgins, Wednesday, 4 April 2007 21:32 (eighteen years ago)

DY!

Andy K, Wednesday, 4 April 2007 23:41 (eighteen years ago)

i only hate because i love

W i l l, Thursday, 5 April 2007 20:58 (eighteen years ago)

It is happening again. :-(

Here's to more late inning dramatics, how ever often they may come. *clinks, than glass shatters*

Steve Shasta, Friday, 6 April 2007 00:37 (eighteen years ago)

DY! (the elder)

Steve Shasta, Friday, 6 April 2007 01:03 (eighteen years ago)

so, bergmann hit 50 pitches in the FIRST inning. that's amazing.

j.q higgins, Friday, 6 April 2007 15:21 (eighteen years ago)

i think Hill had 54 (to Olsen's 14) at the end of the first on Tuesday

W i l l, Friday, 6 April 2007 16:50 (eighteen years ago)

wow. they might start fertilizing the field at rfk w/ the remains of amputated arms!

j.q higgins, Friday, 6 April 2007 17:30 (eighteen years ago)

Would they "FORCE THE ISSUE"?!?!

Andy K, Sunday, 8 April 2007 00:48 (eighteen years ago)

DY still hasn't been taught how to find the rail first when chasing down foul flies.

Andy K, Sunday, 8 April 2007 00:51 (eighteen years ago)

Kearns just hit a foul-ball HR for AZ. The Nats can't catch a break.

Andy K, Sunday, 8 April 2007 01:01 (eighteen years ago)

Kearns is on the Nats.

Steve Shasta, Sunday, 8 April 2007 01:50 (eighteen years ago)

Of course!

Of course, had the Nats' fans given one-tenth of a shit, they might've been loud enough to prevent me from making such a mistake!

And I am still not used to AZ's color change.

Oh well. Not nearly as embarrassing as bracing youself from a barrier that you aren't quite close to hitting.

Andy K, Sunday, 8 April 2007 02:23 (eighteen years ago)

Stats of the day: Entering Sunday's action, the Nationals are hitting .324 when runners are not in scoring position in the last three games.

Did you know: The Nationals have left 52 runners on base entering Sunday's action.

W i l l, Monday, 9 April 2007 03:32 (eighteen years ago)

hill looked good yesterday.

what the hell is wrong w/ patterson, though? yeesh.

j.q higgins, Monday, 9 April 2007 13:18 (eighteen years ago)

A sound trouncing of the Mets!

Andy K, Sunday, 15 April 2007 05:14 (eighteen years ago)

don't look now, y'all, but the nats are not playing bad ball. nice game from chico tonight. lopez and da meathook torched chuck james.

j.q higgins, Tuesday, 17 April 2007 01:45 (eighteen years ago)

Hey! Who the hell ARE these guys?

W i l l, Tuesday, 17 April 2007 04:11 (eighteen years ago)

well, it must be said again: i doubt they'd be swinging the way they are now had guzman and logan not gotten hurt.

i also have to say i like manny acta. in his post game pressers he comes as off as charmingly guillen-esque, only, y'know...not a dick.

went to the game last night. bergmann looked good. ronnie belliard is surprisingly mobile.

j.q higgins, Thursday, 19 April 2007 14:56 (eighteen years ago)

wow. john patterson has not looked so hot this season. at all.

j.q higgins, Thursday, 19 April 2007 19:16 (eighteen years ago)

three weeks pass...
34 games, 99 runs.

Andy K, Friday, 11 May 2007 15:06 (eighteen years ago)

121 losses?

Dr Morbius, Friday, 11 May 2007 16:03 (eighteen years ago)

So Zimmerman hits a grand slam to win it tonight at 1:45 am, including a three hour rain delay (one of the delays was 45 minutes in the 9th inning!) Looking at the replay on MLB.tv, there is less than a hundred people in the stands when Zimmerman hits it out. Surreal.

Michael F Gill, Sunday, 13 May 2007 07:51 (eighteen years ago)

oh wow

W i l l, Sunday, 13 May 2007 17:23 (eighteen years ago)

ooh bergmann with no-hits and 10 Ks going into the 7th

W i l l, Tuesday, 15 May 2007 00:23 (eighteen years ago)

Dare I say, en fuego.

Rock Hardy, Tuesday, 15 May 2007 00:36 (eighteen years ago)

hotter than Robert Byrd's forehead after he sputters for 30 seconds!

Dr Morbius, Tuesday, 15 May 2007 13:46 (eighteen years ago)

four in a row for the nats is basically scalding. i'm going to the game tonight, i believe. really nice seats.

yay!

j.q higgins, Tuesday, 15 May 2007 14:54 (eighteen years ago)

nice. here's hoping williams isn't a big bucket of wet.

W i l l, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 00:30 (eighteen years ago)

They are not in last place!

Andy K, Friday, 25 May 2007 02:30 (eighteen years ago)

What I meant to say: They do not have the worst record in the NL!

Andy K, Friday, 25 May 2007 12:53 (eighteen years ago)

it's sad that this slightly better than worse record even accounts for a pretty decent run of form w/ the understudies to the most maligned rotation in the league taking the hill.

this team could be even less terrible if patterson, bergmann, hill and o'connor were all healthy at once!

j.q higgins, Tuesday, 29 May 2007 13:18 (eighteen years ago)

ouch

W i l l, Wednesday, 30 May 2007 03:04 (eighteen years ago)

There is a special SABR event b4 Nats-Indians 7pm game on Sat eve 6/23. I might take Chinatown bus down for it, anyone else interested? Good seats for $20. I'll decide by Mon or Tues.

Dr Morbius, Saturday, 9 June 2007 16:39 (eighteen years ago)

oops, that's a Prospectus thing, not SABR. Talking heads will be Christina Kahrl, Will Carroll, Steven Goldman, and Marc Normandin, Stan Kasten.

I'm still dithering on going tho.

Dr Morbius, Wednesday, 13 June 2007 19:27 (eighteen years ago)

Guzman is out for the season.

Andy K, Tuesday, 26 June 2007 00:49 (eighteen years ago)

and the thread comes full circle

maura, Tuesday, 26 June 2007 11:06 (eighteen years ago)

Lost my heart to a Meathook

"I had an infection that would not heal, and I had flu-like symptoms," Young said. "I went to urgent care three times in two days. After the third time, I called my parents to tell them goodbye. I told my kids that I loved them, and I hoped they would always be happy. I called 911. When the ambulance arrived, my blood-sugar level was 987. When it's that high, four things can happen -- stroke, coma, organ damage or death. They put an IV in me and got it down to 893. I spent four days in the hospital, three days in the ICU. I know how lucky I am today. I thought there was going to be a tombstone with my name on it."

He was alive, but his baseball career appeared to be over. "No one was knocking on my door," he said. "They were all scared off by last year. For nine years, I had been a great citizen for baseball, so that kind of puzzled me. You know, the whole second chance thing. Thankfully, [Nationals general manager] Jim Bowden believed in second chances." Young was invited to minor league camp in spring training. "Jim told me I had to stay clean, which was no problem for me: You can't mess around with diabetes," Young said. "I really worked hard."

Andy K, Tuesday, 26 June 2007 17:20 (eighteen years ago)

yeah, i gotta say: the nats continue to field teams you enjoy rooting for...

weird breakout team from 2005, soriano/zimmerman watch last year, the rotation that doesn't know how bad (or how much worse?) it's supposed to be this year...

j.q higgins, Tuesday, 26 June 2007 20:43 (eighteen years ago)

one month passes...

Wicked excoriation of the Young resigning from Sheehan.

G00blar, Sunday, 29 July 2007 21:37 (eighteen years ago)

5 in a row! would have to go 10-40 to finish with 100 losses. champagne.jpg etc.

W i l l, Sunday, 5 August 2007 19:35 (eighteen years ago)

two straight sweeps. plenty of worse teams in the league at the moment and they appear to be primed to pass florida on their way out of the nl east cellar.

j.q higgins, Monday, 6 August 2007 13:27 (eighteen years ago)

Maybe it's just reisdual Expo lust but I've been watching the Nats more than any team that is not the Tigers. (Despite the awful home field and even more awful centerfield camera angle.)

Andy K, Monday, 6 August 2007 13:37 (eighteen years ago)

da meathook says whoop-de-woo

W i l l, Wednesday, 8 August 2007 06:29 (eighteen years ago)

welcome to washington, mr. pena.

is bowden trying to assemble his dream reds outfield?

j.q higgins, Friday, 17 August 2007 19:25 (eighteen years ago)

Bah. I was hoping for an occasional Young-Logan-Monroe Nats OF.

Andy K, Friday, 17 August 2007 19:37 (eighteen years ago)

three weeks pass...

They will not lose 100 games this season!

Andy K, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 09:48 (eighteen years ago)

damn, they've destroyed by Predictatron score (58 wins as my NL Mortal Lock)

Dr Morbius, Thursday, 13 September 2007 16:29 (eighteen years ago)

^my

Dr Morbius, Thursday, 13 September 2007 16:30 (eighteen years ago)

hey Nats, WIN A MOTHERFUCKING GAME!

Dr Morbius, Sunday, 23 September 2007 17:33 (eighteen years ago)

um, okay!

j.q higgins, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 17:23 (eighteen years ago)

NOT NOW!

Dr Morbius, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 18:06 (eighteen years ago)

This Nats/Mets series was very reminscent of last year's season-ending Royals/Tigers series. (Shudder)

Andy K, Thursday, 27 September 2007 14:24 (eighteen years ago)

Let's see them batter Philly, plz.

Dr Morbius, Thursday, 27 September 2007 14:45 (eighteen years ago)

four months pass...

...the McGeary signing finished off a Washington draft that has since been rated, by the trade magazine Baseball America, as the best in the game

really?
