In my opinion, of the fifty qualified starters in the top 50 in ERA this season, these are the most surprising. Which one of these ten veteran pitchers will finish the season with the best stats?

yeah zito or maybe fausto, though i admit i am unfamiliar with the complete bodies of work of cj wilson, vargas, and lewis

vargas was a high draft pick so it's not inconceivable, also his numbers at safeco are insane, which also makes sense

fausto was good a few years ago and everyone was impressed by him in spring training, so wasn't surprised by that one either

i'm voting carlos silva

Wilson's only two-three starts from exceeding his MLB career high and has been shelled in his last two games.

Andy K, Thursday, 27 May 2010 20:22 (fifteen years ago)

Career high in IP, that is.

Andy K, Thursday, 27 May 2010 20:40 (fifteen years ago)

Barry Zito is for real, it's official.

one month passes...

All of these pitchers are still under 4.0 ERA, and a few of them have improved their ERA slightly (Carlos Silva being one of them).

Garland, Livan, and Zito all have added 1 ER or more but are still having good seasons overall.

Penny has missed a lot of time to injury.
