Predicting Phils, rooting Reds.

Phillies in 4, probably 3. I like the Reds but the Phillies were hurt all year long and without Oswalt for a majority of the season. At full strength, they may be the best team in MLB. Haters gonna hate but they are understandably tired of looking up at the Phillies in the end of the year standings.

I am thinking there will be a Reds win if Cole Hamels, as Shasta might elegantly put it, shits the bed.

Also if Dusty has to make as few crucial moves as possible.

So psyched for post-season!

Hamels is the only one I actively dislike. There's some inexplicable "the whole is far less than the sum of the parts"/gag-reflex deal at work. Their bad fans seem worse than most other teams' bad fans, and they are in a division full of teams more worthy of derision/pity deserving of support.

As far as the Phils vs. Reds go

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a team who has as little chance of winning as the Reds. Not only do they have to play in a series where the only starters they will see are Roy Halladay, Roy Oswalt, and Cole Hamels, but they can’t beat a good team themselves. Of the Reds 91 wins this season, 45 of them came aginst the four doormats in their division (Pirates, Brewers, Astros, and Cubs). I give them credit for beating the teams they are supposed to but they just can’t beat a good team. Take a look at their records agaisnt teams over .500 this season.

Cards: 6-12
Phils: 2-5
Braves: 2-3
Giants: 3-4
Rockeis: 2-5
Padres: 2-4

(It’s also worth noting that the Reds did not play a single team with a record over .500 in interleague play)

This means that the Reds went 17-33 in the 50 games they played against teams over .500 and had a whopping 112 games agianst teams under .500.

wow, i figured their record (like the Rangers and Twins) was padded by being in a weak division but that's cool to see it parsed out a bit more.

I had a good laugh when the TBS talking heads started talking about how Brad Lidge was "outstanding" in last year's playoffs (he's now converted his last 11 postseason save opportunities!!) Sure, he lost Game 4 of the WS and it was the whole turning point of the series and everything, but it wasn't a save situation ... outstanding!
