BADABING BADABIP: your COLORADO ROCKIES thread 2011

As I write this, I'm crossing my fingers that we don't do anything stupid to get Michael Young. Like last year, we've got a team that *could* contend - this year, as far as I can tell, making the postseason depends entirely on Carney Lansford, our new hitting coach, getting the most out of our underpoerforming young turks. Though we're screwed if Ubaldo, Cargo or Tulo get hurt whatever happens.

It hurts to see this thread untouched, so here's a link to a little puff piece of Carlos Gonzalez's big signing day:

Eric Stephen at True Blue LA also did a look at the Rockies for 2011 - he's a great writer and it's a really good write-up:

I love truebluela. Lots of good content updated regularly. The commenters are kind of out of control these days, but its something to read at work.

Did the rockies ever get a righty bat to balance out their lefties? Does Ty Wiggington even count? Sounds retarded and Joe Morganish but I think 'consistency' will be important for the rockies this year. Need Seth Smith, Ianetta, etc to string together a good season and the starters to stay healthy and they could take the west.

You're spot on. No, we didn't get an impact righty bat (unless you count Jose Lopez, who the big boss woman at Purple Row has predicted will have a career year, ahem), so it will indeed be down to solidity from the bats you mention and a presupposition of excellent from Gonzalez and Tulo. Personally I'm more than a little scared about the NL West having the best pitching in baseball - struggling young hitters aren't going to get their confidence back against your Kershaws and Lincecums and Cains and Latoses.

Mark C, Thursday, 3 February 2011 18:47 (fourteen years ago)

damn Tulo seems like such a bro but I can never fully embrace him because he is such a stan for jeter.

What I love about that particular relationship is that the Yanks basically already had him pencilled in as Jeter's replacement and now it ain't happening (or we get a monster trade win in return I suppose).

two months pass...

I really am the only person with even a passing interest in this team, aren't I?

Mark C, Monday, 18 April 2011 10:51 (fourteen years ago)

Until october, yes.

I'm sure The Troll is a fan, with Tulo about to be crowned Pujols' successor as Best Player.

lol @ this thread title.

I follow the rockies a bit as they will be kicking my teams ass most of the year..

Oof. Well, glad we got last night out of the way. It'd be a really, really good time for Ubaldo to have a triumphant return tonight.

Mark C, Tuesday, 19 April 2011 10:36 (fourteen years ago)

I watch a lot of the Rockies, Mark! They are, how you say, the enemy.

Glad the NL Best cru can all get along. Is there a Dbacks fan on the board?

Who'd have thought we'd be tied with the Phils for most wins after a month with Ubaldo still winless? It sounds like we got one of those pure undeserved lucky wins last night to stay on target. I'm wondering how legit the Dodgers are after their decent start and their sexy outfielders apparently on form, hmm.

every single one of these was an absolute fucking bomb too

J0rdan S., Friday, 20 May 2011 03:39 (fourteen years ago)

Now all we need is a three-homer game from Ian Stewart. But yet, that felt gooood.

with De La Rosa out this team is weaker but i still think they will be a challenge for the Giants this year.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 25 May 2011 01:32 (fourteen years ago)

The Rockies season has basically turned into "Clayton Mortensen had better be really, really good" overnight. If good Ubaldo doesn't come back we're jiggered every which way.

Mark C, Wednesday, 25 May 2011 09:18 (fourteen years ago)

8-21 in May. I feel like I've got a month-long hangover and there's no sign of it going away.

Mark C, Wednesday, 1 June 2011 10:59 (fourteen years ago)

Whoa, 8-21? I didn't even notice.

polyphonic, Wednesday, 1 June 2011 17:07 (fourteen years ago)

Blame Dave Cameron for cursing the Rockies a month or so ago for claiming the NL West was all but locked up by Colorado.

Ubaldo last night: 9 IP (106 pitches), 4H, 0BB, 0ER, 7K, CGSO, W. I make that a game score of 86. Thank god.

Mark C, Thursday, 2 June 2011 10:31 (fourteen years ago)

He bounced back because I was at the game last night and he did it to spite me, personally.

Did he look dominant? (sorry to rub it in but we're desperate for any positive news about our ace) The rest of the game seemed to be small ball-tastic.

Mark C, Friday, 3 June 2011 10:07 (fourteen years ago)

one month passes...

Following this by the Braves radio feed -- they just said that Tulo left the game with some leg problem.

Josef K-Doe (WmC), Tuesday, 5 July 2011 00:29 (fourteen years ago)

Seems to be a tight quad (same one he tore a while back). Hopefully just a couple of days rest will sort it. They won't take any chances, I'm sure (or win any games with both Tulo and Cargo out).

Mark C, Tuesday, 5 July 2011 10:25 (fourteen years ago)

Time to start supporting Arizona! *headdesk

Mark C, Thursday, 7 July 2011 22:33 (fourteen years ago)

man, the roxxxxx really suck this year!

tylerw, Thursday, 7 July 2011 22:35 (fourteen years ago)

Felt a twinge of sympathy for them this week, even though I'm a Braves fan.

Josef K-Doe (WmC), Thursday, 7 July 2011 22:47 (fourteen years ago)

2nd D Fowler tripled to right, I Stewart and C Iannetta scored.
2nd D Fowler stole home.

unfortunately, not as fun as it reads

tupac, bach (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 21 July 2011 22:14 (fourteen years ago)

How can a steal of home be anything but fun?

polyphonic, Thursday, 21 July 2011 22:38 (fourteen years ago)

well, it was a squeeze & he would've been dead at the plate except brian mccann completely missed the ball and it went past him

tupac, bach (J0rdan S.), Friday, 22 July 2011 01:24 (fourteen years ago)

would be a passed ball, no?

It's the rules - we're only allowed to trade with Houston and Oakland (look it up, it's true).
