Dayton Moore wants "a hundred (runs) and a hundred (RBI)" from Jeff Francoeur: 2011 Royals

2010 100/100 seasons:

Pujols
Teixeira
Cabrera
Gonzalez
Bautista
Votto
Cano
Braun
Uggla

Good luck, Jeff. Given your .300ish OBP (which Moore apparently does not care about), you'll have to score only 65-70% of the time you reach base!

Dayton "Sheen" Moore

kind of shrill and very self-righteous (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 3 March 2011 04:09 (fourteen years ago)

two weeks pass...

Francoeur has a new look -- gone is the rich "hockey beard" that he showed on the World Series telecasts along with almost 30 pounds that he added in an effort to boost his power game. It didn't work and now he's down to about 208 pounds on his 6-foot-4 frame.

"Last year in Spring Training with New York, I felt like my legs were going to fall off. They felt like bricks," he said.

Working with hitting coach Kevin Seitzer, he's also trying to be better at selecting pitches to attack and alter his reputation as a free swinger.

"It's going to cut down on his strikeouts, it's going to put him in better hitting counts," Seitzer said.

One thing that hasn't changed, though, is his sunny, bluebird-on-my-shoulder attitude.

"If you're having fun, the majority of the time you're going to do better," he said.

The Royals hope so.

melky's stock is never going to be higher than now and he's a free agent after next year (and probably unreasonable arbitration after this year)

dayton moore will probably trade him to get yuni back

mookieproof, Tuesday, 19 July 2011 01:12 (fourteen years ago)

moustakas now .190/.252/.241

0 for his last 20, 3 for his last 40

hit the ball out of the infield once in his last three games

guess they'll keep playing him with betemit gone

francoeur is projected at seventy-four (runs) and ninety-eight (RBI) right now

johnny crunch, Saturday, 23 July 2011 02:30 (fourteen years ago)

from MLBTradeRumors:

The Royals are leaning toward keeping Melky Cabrera in 2012, according to Passan. Cabrera, who is having an excellent season and remains under team control next year, might not fetch enough in a trade for GM Dayton Moore to pull the trigger.

The Royals are hoping to work out some kind of contract for next year with Jeff Francoeur. The sides have a 2012 mutual option for $4MM, but the Royals would likely have to offer more to lock Francoeur up for next season. They get the impression that the 27-year-old is interested in staying in Kansas City.

Second of all, look what it did to their bullpen. You've got two guys that threw 50 or 40 pitches. It's just not very smart."

I think there's an argument to be made that having Frenchy on that team for the next few years isn't a terrible idea. He seems like a good leader, and that's a very young team. But if that means he blocks Lorenzo Cain, or it means they're signing him and not Melky, it's a mistake.

Anyway, what they really need is pitching.

Jeff Francoeur is the sixth player in Royals history with at least 15 home runs, 15 stolen bases and 40 doubles. The others: Amos Otis (1976), Hal McRae (1977), George Brett (1979), Johnny Damon (2000) and Carlos Beltran (2002).
