the last three names weren't rocked so much as had simply just blown a game. it's between Rodney and Lyon for me.

gotta be rodney both for melting down vs the royals and available replacements

J0rdan S., Monday, 4 April 2011 17:45 (fourteen years ago)

it's probably going to be axford, as much as it kills me to say
he's never really been much of a prospect, just had one amazing year, but was awful in spring training, blew a 3-run save, couldn't get through one inning in his second start, brewers hitting panic mode if they drop their next series

frogbs, Monday, 4 April 2011 18:12 (fourteen years ago)

hopefully Axford, since I have Saito in two leagues

boots get knocked from here to czechoslovakier (milo z), Monday, 4 April 2011 18:15 (fourteen years ago)

there is no one behind franklin so he is pretty safe to continue his pitch2contact ways :(

bnw, Monday, 4 April 2011 18:33 (fourteen years ago)

fuckin love saito..

could also maybe add Broxton to this list, but if he gets demoted it wont be until june..

Not a closer, but Reds' setup man Nick Masset has had an ugly start. The guy has three of the Reds losses. He started bad last year then was unhittable for a few months, hopefully Masset will get it right. It looks to me on the games I saw is he is trying to play the black on the plate instead of just using his power and going after the hitters.

add broxton to the pile of skulls

@molly_knight: Ned Colletti says Broxton is being removed as Dodgers primary closer until he gets his confidence back. Team will use Padilla/Brox/Kuo.

taking a guy out of the rotation is a great way to boost his confidence

congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 26 April 2011 19:09 (fourteen years ago)

continuing to blow games is better?

especially when he's replaced with this: http://l.yimg.com/a/i/us/sp/v/mlb/players_l/20100429/6257.jpg?x=65&y=85&xc=1&yc=1&wc=164&hc=215&q=100&sig=xbgKJI1j1pNXDKyMatKmlQ--

no he should just say that he's being removed as Dodgers primary closer until he learns to stop being shitty

congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 26 April 2011 19:16 (fourteen years ago)

Broxton has been garbage since Torre tried to kill him in his pursuit of getting wins over the Yankees last June.. Dude warmed up/pitched in 5 games in 6 days and in the one epic flameout agains NYY he threw something like 50 pitches..

strongly recommend. unless you're a bitch (mayor jingleberries), Tuesday, 26 April 2011 19:24 (fourteen years ago)

Dylan Hernandez dylanohernandez
Broxton heard TV analysts say #Dodgers would go to closer by committee. Mattingly called him into his office to clarify that wasn’t case.

so I guess Broxton will have the opportunity to blow at least 3-4 more saves in the future.

Axford's been looking alright again, still don't trust him completely but he seems to be getting his control back slowly

It's pretty amazing to me that teams still have desnigated closers, you should have two guys you trust with a 1-2 run lead, and I would think any reliever can convert a 3-run lead a similar % of the time. If you're not using your best reliever in the 7th with a 2-run lead, if the bases are loaded and there's only one out because you wanted to save him for the 9th, that's got to be doing it wrong

frogbs, Tuesday, 26 April 2011 21:23 (fourteen years ago)

managers are conservative pussies who are afraid of the media blaming them for 'not using your closer' in the 9th inning if things go wrong.

Since I made this post he's converted 33 straight saves. I may have been a bit off.

As for the other guys on this list -

Ryan Franlin = RIP
Brandon Lyon = holy shit his ERA was like 1000.00, see you next year
Frankie Rod = good year, but doesn't close
Axford = as mentioned, has been fucking amazing
Marmol = just gave up a walkoff GS to the Astros, so maybe in 2012
