James Loney is fucking killing me right now: .163/.196/.256 playing first base.

james loney is mark grace w/less power, less walks, and a shitty batting average.

he might end up peaking at a hal morris kind of level (not bad) but he's looking more like mid-range dave magadan (bad)

he'd be okay if they could get him to play LF or something but at first base he sux

yuni definitely seemed pretty "clutch" last year, more RBIs than Derek Jeter lol, maybe that's why he was above average

I was kinda surprised to see he's at -0.1 since he's looked pretty average out there lately (obv in a good way)

I'm guessing that Lyle Overbay a) doesn't have a full-time job anywhere, and b) wouldn't be close to the very worst even if he did, but I did want to mention him. I spent five years ridiculing him, and suddenly it feels like there's a void in my life.

Loney is basically on a do or die year this year for LA. He can be productive, is technically in his prime and has shown flashes, BUT his second half of last year was abysmal and Mattingly insists on batting him behind Kemp (which resulted in an intentional walk last night). If he doesnt get his shit together he is non-tender candidate #1.

By the way, I'm of course overstating how useless Overbay is. It's just that, as a Jays fan, after years and years of McGriff followed by Delgado, he didn't inspire a lot of love.

yeah loney was fantastic in his rookie season and flashed some actual power and at his age *maybe* he could put it together but he's declined every year since '07.

Pirates aren't a terrible team this season.

Last years shittiest player, Jose Lopez, has made a good start to his Rockies career. Although starting 3B Ian Stewart is currently OPSing (sic) .118.

weirdest thing about james loney is his consistently high line drive rate, does he hit a lot of soft liners at infielders or something? theres no way he should be hitting below .300 with that many line drives

dodger stadium does actively suppress doubles and triples because of the symmetry in the OF.. that could have something to do with it.. its also possible hes struggling this year because hes trying to turn those line drives into home runs and its fucking up his approach..
