We used to have Hacking Mass threads but then somebody started a similar themed thread last year. What is your criteria: OPS? RC27? WAR?

welp, fangraphs didn't like that, you'll need to click on the WAR column header again to reverse the sort order for WAR.
― it's time for the fish in the perculator (Steve Shasta), Wednesday, 13 April 2011 17:00 (fourteen years ago)
worst bbref WAR is my favorite
― ciderpress, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 17:14 (fourteen years ago)
though they haven't started calculating it yet for this season
― ciderpress, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 17:15 (fourteen years ago)
Vernon Wells at -.6 already
As good as the Dan Haren trade was, this one was so many times worse
― frogbs, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 17:56 (fourteen years ago)
Really hoping it's not Yuniesky Betancourt, though it easily could be
― frogbs, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 17:57 (fourteen years ago)
he was the worst 2 years ago but last year he was above replacement
― ciderpress, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 18:04 (fourteen years ago)
that's true, I mean he'll probably wind up above replacement level, but don't the Angels have to take on his ridiculous salary too?
― frogbs, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 18:09 (fourteen years ago)
he was talking about yuni
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 13 April 2011 18:15 (fourteen years ago)
James Loney is fucking killing me right now: .163/.196/.256 playing first base.
― strongly recommend. unless you're a bitch (mayor jingleberries), Wednesday, 13 April 2011 18:21 (fourteen years ago)
james loney is mark grace w/less power, less walks, and a shitty batting average.
― omar little, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 18:50 (fourteen years ago)
he might end up peaking at a hal morris kind of level (not bad) but he's looking more like mid-range dave magadan (bad)
― omar little, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 18:53 (fourteen years ago)
he'd be okay if they could get him to play LF or something but at first base he sux
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 13 April 2011 18:55 (fourteen years ago)
yuni definitely seemed pretty "clutch" last year, more RBIs than Derek Jeter lol, maybe that's why he was above average
I was kinda surprised to see he's at -0.1 since he's looked pretty average out there lately (obv in a good way)
― frogbs, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 18:59 (fourteen years ago)
I'm guessing that Lyle Overbay a) doesn't have a full-time job anywhere, and b) wouldn't be close to the very worst even if he did, but I did want to mention him. I spent five years ridiculing him, and suddenly it feels like there's a void in my life.
― clemenza, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 19:00 (fourteen years ago)
Overbay is the Pirates' everyday first baseman and clean-up hitter.
― Andy K, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 19:05 (fourteen years ago)
xp think hes the pirates starting 1b
loney did have like 40+ doubles last yr i think
― johnny crunch, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 19:06 (fourteen years ago)
If this is true, then I have finally gotten a handle on exactly where this organization is right now.

Loney is basically on a do or die year this year for LA. He can be productive, is technically in his prime and has shown flashes, BUT his second half of last year was abysmal and Mattingly insists on batting him behind Kemp (which resulted in an intentional walk last night). If he doesnt get his shit together he is non-tender candidate #1.
― strongly recommend. unless you're a bitch (mayor jingleberries), Wednesday, 13 April 2011 19:59 (fourteen years ago)
By the way, I'm of course overstating how useless Overbay is. It's just that, as a Jays fan, after years and years of McGriff followed by Delgado, he didn't inspire a lot of love.
― clemenza, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 20:02 (fourteen years ago)
yeah loney was fantastic in his rookie season and flashed some actual power and at his age *maybe* he could put it together but he's declined every year since '07.
― omar little, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 20:12 (fourteen years ago)
weird thing about crazy legged jim loney are his career home/away splits:
home .266/.331/.374away .304/.358/.488
― strongly recommend. unless you're a bitch (mayor jingleberries), Wednesday, 13 April 2011 20:17 (fourteen years ago)
Pirates aren't a terrible team this season.
Last years shittiest player, Jose Lopez, has made a good start to his Rockies career. Although starting 3B Ian Stewart is currently OPSing (sic) .118.
― Mark C, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 21:30 (fourteen years ago)
weirdest thing about james loney is his consistently high line drive rate, does he hit a lot of soft liners at infielders or something? theres no way he should be hitting below .300 with that many line drives
― ciderpress, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 21:52 (fourteen years ago)
dodger stadium does actively suppress doubles and triples because of the symmetry in the OF.. that could have something to do with it.. its also possible hes struggling this year because hes trying to turn those line drives into home runs and its fucking up his approach..
speaking of other dodgers in the bottom 10 of ops - how about that juan uribe and his 3yr/21mil deal.. fuck you colletti.
― strongly recommend. unless you're a bitch (mayor jingleberries), Wednesday, 13 April 2011 22:38 (fourteen years ago)
lol... why on earth anyone would give that guy more than $2M/year is amazing.
― it's time for the fish in the perculator (Steve Shasta), Wednesday, 13 April 2011 22:43 (fourteen years ago)
Take your pick: Huff vs. Tejada. 2 teammates sharing the distinction as of today (altho Huff hit a HR tonight).
― it's a meme i made and i like (Steve Shasta), Thursday, 2 June 2011 05:43 (fourteen years ago)
I don't know where Uggla fits in the list statistically, but he's really shitting it up so far this year.
― what made my hamburger disappear (WmC), Thursday, 2 June 2011 12:42 (fourteen years ago)
Hanley Ramirez: .210, .306, .309
― polyphonic, Thursday, 2 June 2011 16:41 (fourteen years ago)
And yet Tejada's OPS is over 100 points lower: .210/.233/.272
― it's a meme i made and i like (Steve Shasta), Thursday, 2 June 2011 16:46 (fourteen years ago)
wow that is unbelievably bad
― b.o.s.e. (banned ones still envy) (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 2 June 2011 16:47 (fourteen years ago)
I think we can take Huff off this list for now.
― it's a meme i made and i like (Steve Shasta), Friday, 3 June 2011 03:29 (fourteen years ago)
freddie sanchez is outslugging tejada by .140
― mookieproof, Tuesday, 7 June 2011 07:05 (fourteen years ago)
nope guys, it's still Betancourt
― frogbs, Tuesday, 7 June 2011 13:51 (fourteen years ago)
jason bay .216 .310 .291
― johnny crunch, Tuesday, 7 June 2011 13:54 (fourteen years ago)
yuni's obp is .259, which is appallingly bad, plus he's a worse fielder (apparently just .1 WAR worse than Bay though)

did dave cameron or someone who cares enough ever do an analysis as to why chone quickly descended into one of the worst players in mlb after being pretty decent for anaheim?
― strongly recommend. unless you're a bitch (mayor jingleberries), Wednesday, 8 June 2011 20:00 (fourteen years ago)
Uggla
― Bert Macklin, F.B.I. (thebingo), Wednesday, 8 June 2011 20:04 (fourteen years ago)
i dunno, to me there's the sense that Chone and Uggla were once pretty good and could be good again, while Yuni AT BEST is pretty mediocre
― frogbs, Wednesday, 8 June 2011 20:19 (fourteen years ago)
chone is done and is now the worst
