I don't think we have a thread for '07 trade rumors yet. Let the JACK WILSON sweepstakes begin!

Jul 19 ESPN Radio 1000 in Chicago is reporting a Milwaukee radio station had inside knowledge of a potential trade involving the Milwaukee Brewers and Cincinnati Reds. The deal would send Reds OF Adam Dunn to Milwaukee in exchange for Brewers OF Tony Gwynn Jr. and a possible player to be named later or cash.
I could make the Reds a better offer than that.
Dunn To Brewers Rumor Quashed
http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2007/07/dunn-to-brewers.html
The Reds would trade Adam Dunn to the Brewers for Tony Gwynn Jr., Matt Wise, and an unknown infield prospect. Wise is solid, and Wayne Krivsky likes relievers. But the bounty still seems too small for the best available slugger. The other red flag is that Wise and Gwynn continued to play in today's game after the rumor surfaced.Fortunately, Jerry Crasnick spoke to Doug Melvin and confirmed that there's nothing to this trade rumor.

No deal: Journalistic accountability took a hit Thursday after a Cincinnati radio personality posted an entry on his blog that said the following:"From the MLB rumor mill ... Dunn to Brewers for Matt Wise, Tony Gwynn Jr. and an infield prospect.""It was news to me," Dunn said. "Where does that stuff come from?"A Milwaukee station saw the post and reported it as fact. Both teams' general managers, Wayne Krivsky from the Reds and Doug Melvin from the Brewers, spent parts of their days dismissing the report as baseless."I'm taking more calls deflecting these kinds of rumors than I've had talking to GMs," said Melvin, whose club is already flush with left-handed-hitting outfielders. "There are freaking geeks who get ... off on this kind of stuff."

To every fan of every team in baseball who could use some bullpen help:
The Padres are not going to trade you Scott Linebrink for your worst old veteran. Get over it.

― Dr Morbius, Monday, 23 July 2007 15:13 (eighteen years ago)
Carroll wrote this last week:
Houston right-hander Roy Oswalt said he would at least consider dropping the no-trade clause in the five-year, $73-million contract he signed last season, particularly if the Astros go into rebuilding mode. The Mets would definitely have interest, especially after nearly landing Oswalt at the trading deadline last July.

Please send us your worst old veteran, please!

Three days later? Really?
― David R., Tuesday, 24 July 2007 17:40 (eighteen years ago)
I think the Red Sox would be willing to give the Pads an autographed Doug Mirabelli bobble head & an old Mark Loretta jockstrap for SL.
― David R., Tuesday, 24 July 2007 17:41 (eighteen years ago)
please to be having our jason promisringhausen for 3 starting pitchers, center fielder, shortstop, and 3rd basemen, ok?
― bnw, Tuesday, 24 July 2007 19:10 (eighteen years ago)
There's a very limited group of teams that need Ken Griffey, Jr. and none of those--save the Cubs--are on his list of places he'd go.
I hope Hendry is talking to Krivsky. A real battle of wits to see who can out-lopside the other in trade offers.

HORRIFYING bullpen if it happens.

This isn't a rumor, but this seems like a good place for a weird Gary Majewski pic.

Globe is reporting (quoting from NESN) that Gagne has accepted the trade to the BoSox, will be setup man.
― G00blar, Tuesday, 31 July 2007 20:09 (eighteen years ago)
Padres get Rob Mackowiak and Morgan Ensberg for A-level closer and a PTBNL, and apparently might still be in the running for Loretta, Lamb, or Kei Igawa (those sound like internet rumors so far, though).
Ensberg seems like a mess, but a lot of upside there. He isn't a very good choice to platoon with Kouz, though. Mackowiak is a good upgrade on either Jose Cruz or Sledge, but nothing to really write home about.
Some nice, if slight, bench upgrades.
― polyphonic, Tuesday, 31 July 2007 20:22 (eighteen years ago)
I don't even understand this really. what was wrong with Okajima as a set-up man? don' they already have one of the best bullpens in baseball? the hell?!
xpost to Gagne
― The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall, Tuesday, 31 July 2007 20:23 (eighteen years ago)
I wonder if this means Papelbon is back in the mix as a starter. Maybe not now, but in the playoffs, or in 2008?
― polyphonic, Tuesday, 31 July 2007 20:25 (eighteen years ago)
Nah, Paps'll stay the closer. Gagne's a free agent after this year. There was nothing wrong with Okajima as a set-up man, and he'll be great pitching in the seventh. Plus, this gives Tito even less of a reason to over-pitch Papelbon, an issue that hasn't come up, but could down the line/in the playoffs.
― G00blar, Tuesday, 31 July 2007 20:30 (eighteen years ago)
Basically you can't really overstock a bullpen with quality arms.
― G00blar, Tuesday, 31 July 2007 20:31 (eighteen years ago)
this is true... probably also to keep him from the oh noes yankees! i hate this division.

Matt Morris traded to Pirates for light- and switch-hitting Rajai Davis, OF. I really wonder why Pittsburgh took on the money and the beard.
― Leee, Tuesday, 31 July 2007 21:26 (eighteen years ago)
the beard is understandable.

Amen to that, tho he's been good w/ Papelbon so far this year - it's Okajima that's been getting overworked.
I am sad, tho, because I finally stopped calling Gabbard "Jason." :(

good lord dave littlefield sucks

The Pirates and Detroit yesterday continued talks aimed at trading shortstop Jack Wilson to the Tigers, multiple sources confirmed. The sides failed to close by Major League Baseball's 4 p.m. Tuesday deadline for non-waiver trades, but players still can be moved and added to a postseason roster by Aug. 31, so long as they clear waivers. Because Wilson is owed $14.5 million for the two seasons after this one, it is highly likely he would clear. How close was the deal to being done? One source intimately familiar with the matter said that a deal was virtually done Tuesday and that the Pirates would receive two of Detroit's top six prospects, including an unnamed pitcher ready to join the major-league staff. But the sides haggled on how much of Wilson's contract the Pirates would pick up, the source added, and the delay was on.It is possible Wilson already is on waivers, but that process is not made public.

wasn't sean casey a post 7/31 deal, too? christ, the tigers might singlehandedly save dave littlefield from himself.
― j.q higgins, Thursday, 2 August 2007 16:31 (eighteen years ago)
Not really a trade rumor, but the Diamondbacks acquired Joe Kennedy, Byung Kim, and Jeff Cirillo for ... nothing! Waiver claims. All of the sudden the back of their rotation looks a lot better. On the other hand, now they only have three outfielders! Weird.

yeah, kielty is on the sox and is reportedly on the verge of putting an end to wily mo's red sock career.
― j.q higgins, Tuesday, 14 August 2007 15:47 (eighteen years ago)
Hilarious to me that a guy who can't seem to stay on the A's major league roster is somehow a great fit for the Red Sox. If he didn't have red hair no one would give a shit.
― polyphonic, Tuesday, 14 August 2007 19:00 (eighteen years ago)
supposedly Jose Contreras' start last night in Seattle was an audition for a coming trade. and the Dodgers want him too? I guess he must have cleared waivers.

wily mo got traded to the nationals.
