Rooting for los Tigres, but I have a nagging suspicion that Texas is going to win it.

On Verlander's two starts alone, I've got to go with the Tigers in 6 or 7.

Manager Ron Washington filled out the rest of his four-man rotation behind C.J. Wilson, who on Wednesday was announced as the Game 1 starter. Just as it was in the AL Division Series, Derek Holland will pitch Game 2 and be followed by Colby Lewis and Matt Harrison.

Meanwhile, Leyland announced that after Justin Verlander starts Game 1 of the American League Championship Series, Max Scherzer will start Game 2, Doug Fister will start Game 3 and Rick Porcello will go in Game 4.

Between him and Boesch, that's a pretty big blow -- mostly due to what's left.

The Rangers have been the forgotten team of the playoffs, which is I guess what happens the year *after* you make team history by finally winning a postseason series. I would rather see the Tigers win, but I have a feeling the Rangers will somehow sneak through in six.

You see what I see? If you believe PITCHf/x -- and from what I've noticed, whatever tool FOX is using -- Verlander's lost six strikes that were inside the strike zone, while gaining none that were outside the zone. When you think about the fine line between success and failure for a pitcher in the major leagues, you might guess how damaging that could be, having a six-strike deficit in just three innings.

Tigers gave it away, I think -- didn't capitalize on early base runners, and Verlander was clearly rattled by Welke. That pitch Cruz jacked followed one definite strike called a ball and a second pitch that could have been called a strike.

Kinda stunned the Rangers did not score off Ryan Perry.

Game two will be played tomorrow and Maggs is now out with ankle injury (and won't be returning).

Typically, the Tigers sell game-used bases as memorabilia. But that is no way to treat the hero of ALCS Game 5.

Actually, there were varying theories within the organization about how Third Base should be honored. The plan actually changed following Schmakel’s initial instruction to the Major League Baseball authenticator after the game.

Cabrera, approached in the clubhouse, insisted that he hadn’t requested it. “Talk to Lamont!” Cabrera called out, smiling. Lamont confirmed that, yes, he asked for the base but clarified that he didn’t want it for himself.

“For the team,” Lamont said. “Between that and Victor hitting a triple, standing on there, that’s quite a bag.”

Tigers manager Jim Leyland had his own designs, telling reporters after the game, “I have that bag in my office right now, and that will be in my memorabilia room at some point in my life. I can promise you.”

He may have to wait awhile.

Around the time Leyland made those remarks, team owner Mike Ilitch sent word that he wants Third Base for the sports archive he maintains at the Fox Theatre — across the street from Comerica Park. Since Ilitch has spent hundreds of millions of dollars to ensure that the Tigers are good enough to play in a thrilling ALCS such as this, I’m guessing he’ll get his wish.
