As if anyone is going to list Eric Byrnes 2nd on their NL MVP ballot.
― NoTimeBeforeTime, Monday, 10 September 2007 16:39 (eighteen years ago)
why does he rank so highly in WS?
― Dr Morbius, Monday, 10 September 2007 17:10 (eighteen years ago)
He has a keen sense of when it is appropriate to conserve and expend energy.

The NL award is going to interesting. Is it still Fielder if the Brewers don't make the post-season or does someone like Wright get it?
― Alex in SF, Monday, 10 September 2007 17:14 (eighteen years ago)
The AL is obv sewn up. Anyone not voting for A-Rod should be shot.
Fielder's hope (besides the Brewers winning the Central) is the writers looking only at HR/RBI. Which can happen. But I think Wright is the clear favorite.
― Dr Morbius, Monday, 10 September 2007 17:28 (eighteen years ago)
Yeah he probably should be. He's second in WARP3 to Pujols.
― Alex in SF, Monday, 10 September 2007 17:31 (eighteen years ago)
hanley is higher in vorp but tbh i dont even know what that means
pujols and larry deserve consideration too, but i cant really argue with wright. i'm pretty amazed at the second half he's put together, i didnt think he had it in him - not a dis, he's always been a hell of a player, but i didnt know he could be so dominant. the general not-outstandingness of the rest of the mets' star players (except for moises lmbo) probably highlights his performance even more

Hanley is higher in VORP, but his defense is awful and the Marlins are lame.
― Alex in SF, Monday, 10 September 2007 18:29 (eighteen years ago)
yes who will win the nl mvp? who? it is a mystery
― jhøshea, Monday, 10 September 2007 18:32 (eighteen years ago)
Beltran would be passing Reyes further down the ballot given Jose's mediocre 2nd half, but as he's not as "exciting" probably won't make the top 10.
Wright since break: .356/.469/.597

Wow...Eric Byrnes is really up high on this list and they don't even have clutchidude as one of the factors.
A-Rod is a lock in the AL unless people just don't vote for him because he is A-Rod.
I think Fielder has an outside shot, even though Wright probably deserves the award, as it is possible that the east coast vote might get split up a bit more with Reyes, Jimmy Rollins and Beltran also having good seasons. I've got a feeling that you will see Fielder in the top 3 on most ballots, but Wright might slip on a few if people go for Reyes or Rollins.
I think Wright probably deserves the NL MVP and I think I would go for him first, but if Fielder were to win, it wouldn't be a loss as he has been good all season and the Brewers would definitely not be in the race without him.

"A-Rod is a lock in the AL unless people just don't vote for him because he is A-Rod."
I can't believe that many voters will be that stupid (one or two maybe.) Bonds won all those times and I don't think, his verbal diarrhea, aside that A-Rod is more disliked than Bonds was.

I think it's pretty defensible to claim that Braun is as if not more important to the Brewers than Fielder has been.
― Alex in SF, Monday, 10 September 2007 22:24 (eighteen years ago)
Yabbut he's a rookie. You see the problem.
― mattbot, Monday, 10 September 2007 22:33 (eighteen years ago)
He's also an unbelievably bad fielder. Not that Fielder is any great shakes either.
― Alex in SF, Monday, 10 September 2007 22:35 (eighteen years ago)
Really the more I think about it, the more I think there is only one right vote in the NL (I tend to eliminate players who aren't on contending teams unless they are having historically good seasons.)
― Alex in SF, Monday, 10 September 2007 22:38 (eighteen years ago)
Braun has been killer, but the Brewers were 27 and 21 when the guy got called up.
The Mets lineup is freakin' loaded in a Boston/Yankees kind of way, especially with Alou coming back. Castillo has been a nice addition for down the strech.
A-Rod is definitely the AL MVP in my book, but people can be screwy on these things.
― earlnash, Monday, 10 September 2007 22:43 (eighteen years ago)
What does it take for ppl to notice that Reyes has slipped BADLY in the second half?
― Dr Morbius, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 13:32 (eighteen years ago)
the more I think there is only one Wright vote in the NL
― Leee, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 16:20 (eighteen years ago)
Well, I think we see what it took.
― Dr Morbius, Thursday, 4 October 2007 18:00 (eighteen years ago)
Haha no doubt.
