the good news: fantasy baseball is awesome and shall continue to be awesome throughout 2012.

the bad news: looks like we're contracting this year. Leeeeee and Will (iirc) are out. i'm told they are running off to start their own, three-person nerdball league with Morbs.

if any newcomers want to join - doors are open!

congrats to last year's winner, polyphonic. this year, going for the threepeat dynasty!

i'll try to pick a draft date mid-way through spring training, as usual.
and if everyone can post their keeper list to this thread by the time you sign up, that would be awesome. once the 2012 yahoo leagues open up, i'll post a link and also send out invites to the managers.

and just a refresh on the rules:
• total of 5 keepers
• 2 of which must be 27, 28 or 29 yrs old
• another 2 players 26 or under
• one final keeper that can be either (basically anyone under the age of 30)
• age is based on that year's opening date
• for a player to be keep-eligible he must have been drafted on draft day by your team or traded to you by a team that drafted him. that means:
• free agent/waiver pick-ups cannot be kept
• if you keep less than 5 players - you will have a random filler pick inserted instead of a keeper. once the draft is complete you can drop that player for someone else that will count as your final draft pick (must happen right after the draft, so i can keep track of it)

I had to make a late season trade for Peralta just to get up to five keeper-eligible guys.

You can keep them if you drafted them or traded for them (from an owner who drafted them). If they were ever on the waiver wire then they aren't eligible.

rule is exactly as it states. Lawrie and Moore are not keep-eligible. ditto for Freese from my roster.

Yes, it was all the trash you talked about GLORP, how it wasn't even a real stat and such.

And btw, I'm taking my keepers with me, muahaha.

I have to think a bit more about who I'm keeping. Strasburg and Kershaw, obviously, Mauer and Zimmerman are also no-brainers (provided they're healthy), no idea who my fifth pick will be. Not sure if I want to give Kyle Drabek another chance, I carried his dead ass all last season because of his keeper potential.

i think you're safe. it's between the 18th and 26th - and so far it looks like two people can't to 18th and one can't do the 25th.

like i said above; only one objection to the 25th so far, which for 14 teams isn't bad. unless a bunch more people can't do it that sunday i will go ahead and make that the draft date (sorry JQ - if it helps, i won't be keeping Markakis this year)(how "late" is "late" btw - if it helps you make the draft? - normally i go with something mid-afternoon, but early evening might be ok)

imagine trying to convince someone in April that some of the best players in 2012 would include RA Dickey, Edwin Encarnacion and Mike Trout

It's pretty amazing how my team is just treading water in the middle of the pack despite being amazingly bad offensively. I feel likei go weeks without a multiple homer day. And lately I'm just dropping bench players just to watch their expression change. I should just start thinking about keepers now.

My keepers this year were all p disappointing. Ellsbury the main offender.

It has been neck and neck for about a month

My team finally lived up to its name when suddenly half my lineup got injured and was day-to-day but NOT on the DL (= not accumulating stats). I've been slowly shedding points all month and now I'm probably out of it, although it was fun while it lasted :(

My team is so awful. in sept I'm pretty sure I've had one day w multiple homers. Across the board just a bunch of underperformers from June on. My pitching has been pretty solid thanks mostly to medlen and Harvey though.

i'm up by 6.5 going into the final day, but still nervous (lost 5.5 points just last night)

also i'm over my games limit with both 2B (Cano) and SS (Reyes), so no production from them tonight.

i blew out the innings limit last night, kinda doubt i can gain enough in offense today 2 catch u but i havent looked @ it closely

nothing in particular, although I'm sure other people would have good ideas. I think ditching fielding percentage might be a good idea, since it's the one category I pay literally no attention to and it seems like a crapshoot. in a sense, GIDP is kind of a crapshoot too, but at least it seems more tangible, I notice it more, and it's the stat i love to hate (YADI, QUIT HITTING INTO DOUBLE PLAYS). Whereas i always forget fielding percentage even exists as a category.

i drafted Crisp thinking he would balance out Castro's brutal glove. that backfired, to put things mildly. that was also my first time truly giving a shit about either stat, so obviously won't miss it if we replace one with something else.

THANKS! it's the first time i've ever won anything like that, so i'm actually kind of happy! now to await my $15,000 prize....

but really, i just totally lucked out this season. i drafted lance lynn as a kind of afterthought, and even though his ERA and WHIP and K/BB wasn't off the charts, he did manage to get 18 wins and a ton of strikeouts. cueto turned in a great season as well, unexpectedly. i figured he was due to regress. matt cain (CAIN) did his cain thing, which was nice. and on the hitting side, aramis ramirez was a really nice surprise (i expected to drop him by may or something), and of course yadi.

anyway, it was fun!

I completely lost steam and interest this year but I might have it again next year. haha. Having my fucking power turn off 30 minutes before the draft didnt help my enthusiasm.

My team waited until September to be true to its name (everybody injured, almost nobody on the DL) but it was a fun ride, I even got to be in first for most of August. I might have lost ground over the last month but there was no way I was going to catch any team with 190+ points ... that's just too good. Congrats Z_S and CAIN!

Thanks also to Thermo for handling commish duties this year. We've got to get you on one of those year-to-year/lifetime contracts like Selig has!

Hopefully I'll be back paying closer attention to baseball next year, getting sober took priority. Will be back competing next year! Congrats Z_S!
