Funny parody foreword this year.

Also didn't know til I read the Mets section (reads like Goldstein) that Alderson has assigned a scout to each team's entire organization. Interesting structural approach.

Apparently not... well, at least under Minaya they were assigned regionally.

Is this year's version worth getting? I feel like there is so much more information available via the Internet than there used to be, and the last two or three have been less funny and insightful than previous editions. Anyone have a compelling reason I should purchase this and stay up for a week reading it and then never looking at it again?

I really have not noticed any perceptible decline in wit or insight. And I like thumbing through a paper volume during games (esp now that I will be doing almost all my game-watching online).

Jay Jaffe:

I will be shifting my attention to starting up a new blog called Hit and Run at SI.com, scheduled to launch early next week. I will still be contributing here twice a month and pitching in via Lineup Cards, chats, ballpark events, book projects and so forth—you're not rid of me yet. Nonetheless, it's an appropriate time for me to thank you readers again for following along, and for providing so much encouragement and feedback over the years.
