Tired of the Red Sox cutting off the PA system music during their batting practice, as they have the last few years for all teams, the Rays came up with a creative solution Saturday.

CF B.J. Upton brought out a boombox, they set it up near the batting cage and ran an extension cord from the dugout, for an instant soundtrack. About halfway through the session, the PA system came back on with some music best described as “pop organ.”

The Rays, it should be noted, have started giving the Sox the silent treatment at Tropicana Field.

The Rays are holding "Turn Back the Clock" night on June 30. Though the team began play in 1998, they will wear this amazing "hypothetical" uniform, modeled above by manager Joe Maddon, from 1979.

mizzell, Thursday, 21 June 2012 13:22 (thirteen years ago)

Holy crap that uniform. Awesomely ugly.

If Maddon wants to "read between the lines," he should join a book club in the off-season. I'm with Davey on this one.

Meant to post this over the weekend:

Los Angeles Angels' Rally Monkey had to hide this weekend when Fernando Rodney and the Tampa Bay Rays came to town.

For the second consecutive day, Tampa Bay Rays closer Fernando Rodney took aim at the monkey after the game with his signature post-game bow-and-arrow gesture.

"Last night, I saw the son and shoot him and he gone," Rodney said. "Today the father come. I said, 'I don't want no problem.' I had an arrow behind me and I shoot it."

Bobby-fil-A (WmC), Thursday, 30 August 2012 18:19 (thirteen years ago)

well, I think the fact that the Expos drew when they were competitive is the salient point.

i don't understand why montreal doesn't have a(n affiliated) minor league team

mookieproof, Thursday, 30 August 2012 19:47 (thirteen years ago)

just bad mutual blood w/ MLB?

Pangborn to be Wilde (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 30 August 2012 19:57 (thirteen years ago)

i dunno. part of it is probably a stadium issue, as playing in the big o would be absurd. more to the point, i'm surprised that the blue jays don't do something about it, as they're actually quite cognizant of being the nation's team. but i guess they're gonna move their triple-a team to buffalo next year, possibly leaving the mets stuck with las vegas.

tbh, brooklyn should have a full-season team too -- the cyclones outdraw all but a handful of double-a teams -- but i guess the mets don't want the competition.

damn, another thriller

kizz my hairy irish azz (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 13 September 2012 20:08 (twelve years ago)

I think a big part of mtl not having a a/aa/aaa team is just that they haven't bothered moving one from somewhere else. that and the stadium thing. they're talknig about (wtf this is insane) building a ~12000 stadium in griffintown (crazy genrtif zone) for a (lol what) canadian baseball league team. but it won't be expandable aka it could never hold an mlb team. MAKES NO SENSE.

i wish ball would come back here and i DO really think that if it was handled RIGHT (aka the politicians didn't make its location a partisan issue, etc) mtl could totally support a team. hell i'd go to a bunch more games, i already schlep to toronto to watch games and next year intend to go to a few vermont lake monsters games (every time my friends drove there this year i was otherwise engaged).
