It was either me or frogbs. I, Han Solo-like, shot first.
If Mat Gamel can be a slightly plus bat, Brewers win division. If not, it will be tighter...but the starting pitching is too good, bullpen looks better, Ramirez is a huge improvement at the plate, Gonzalez is a MASSIVE improvement defensively at least at short, we got the Plushdamentals alternating with A GUY WHO JUST STOLE HOME FROM THIRD ON A POP FOUL TO THIRD BASE...gonna be a fun year.

Was about to start this one myself. thanks for beating me to the punch.
Gamel's looked great in spring training this far. I actually have some hope for him - not filling Fielder's shoes, but I think between him, the SS defensive upgrade, and the switch from McGehee to Ramirez, they can make up for Fielder's production. As good of a hitter as he is the truth is that replacing big slugging no defense first basemen isn't hard. Losing Weeks would have been a much bigger blow IMO

Gomez is actually kind of jacked, and a lot of his home runs look impressive. Problem is bad plate decisions and lack of discipline.
― @GracieLoPan #fyi (Display Name (this cannot be changed):), Sunday, 1 April 2012 03:52 (thirteen years ago)
i dunno - lots of guys that are good at knocking them out of the park have shitty plate discipline.

the question is, who on the Brewers is the biggest threat to your potato chips this year?
― you can expect punches, kicks and even worse (frogbs), Friday, 13 April 2012 15:59 (thirteen years ago)
Axford just passed Lidge for 4th longest consecutive save streak. Seven more to move into #2 (Gagne is still a far ways away) Couldn't have been a crazier one either- held onto a one run lead despite having runners at first and third w/ no outs, got two K's and caught them in a bizarre rundown
― you can expect punches, kicks and even worse (frogbs), Monday, 30 April 2012 01:24 (thirteen years ago)
woof. Gamel has a torn ACL, likely out for season. Until we find a way to replace him, it'll be Ishikawa *shudder*. Please just put Hart at 1B so we can play two of our three center fielders, eh?
― That's a pretty funky dance, Garfield. Show me how you do it. (frogbs), Wednesday, 2 May 2012 22:09 (thirteen years ago)
At least they didn't have to use Axford today. *cough*
― Andy K, Sunday, 6 May 2012 23:59 (thirteen years ago)
can a road trip possibly go any worse? not only losing every series but also two everyday players and one of your starters for the season, plus having to put one of your most valuable platoon guys on the DL? this is insane
― first mca now bear wtf at this day already (frogbs), Monday, 7 May 2012 02:23 (thirteen years ago)
ok I guess Gonzo hasn't been formally announced as out for the season but every indication is that he fucked himself pretty badly
okay, Brewers are by far the unluckiest team in the league, about an 80 point differential in BABIP for and against which is highest in the league, plus a ridiculous amount of injuries, including one they flat out couldn't afford, a bunch of late losses, christ this sucks
― frogbs, Wednesday, 9 May 2012 19:31 (thirteen years ago)
I mean holy shit in those last 3 innings they hit THREE balls that were literally 2-3 feet from being HRs (Uecker has said "GET UP! GET UP! and...CAUGHT!" every time, which is such a heartbreaking call), while the Reds win on 3 consecutive bloops with 2 outs. They actually hit the ball pretty hard vs. Cueto but kept hitting it right at guys. I can't remember the last time I've seen a team outplay their competition so badly and still wind up with a loss.

So Game 1 features a Vinnie Chulk win (his first in 3 years) and Game 2 features an Edwin Maysonet Grand Slam (guy was on his 9th year in the minors and was batting .222 in AAA), of course I go to Game 3 which features some of the sloppiest infield defense and baserunning I've ever seen from these guys (but I did get a sweet Yovani Gallardo bobblehead - never understood why they gave these out when they host the Cubs as like a third of the fans are from Chicago)

this just may have saved their season. still 5 under but they play against five of the league's worst over the next two weeks (Pirates, Cubs, Padres, Royals, Twins) and 10-5 will get them to .500

Eject every hitter who spikes/throws his bat.
Greinke scheduled to start the 1st game after the break. If he makes the start, he'll be the first starting pitcher since 1917 to start 3 consecutive games.

Wound up going 3 IP, 3 ER. Estrada came in and gave 3 scoreless. I'm really glad him and Fiers are comin through for the team now, we'll need 'em in 2013
― frogbs, Sunday, 8 July 2012 22:48 (thirteen years ago)
Whoa. Zack suddenly scratched from his next start (after giving up 12 runs in 13 innings). The official reason is "he needs a rest after starting 3 consecutive games" but he only threw 4 pitches in one, 3 innings in the other, then the 3rd was on regular rest. Something's up.

I feel bad for our starters. They've been insane for about a month and a half only to watch their bullpen blow leads game after game after game. Axford out as closer, only to replace him with K-Rod, who put on a total of 13 baserunners over his three save opportunities. And when it's not a save situation, then the rest of the bullpen combines to blow five-run leads like it's nothing. We had some good times, Zack!
