FOX Sports West is moving two Lakers games to Prime Ticket to make room for Angles broadcast instead. Games include this Friday's game and another game on April 17.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 4 April 2012 04:30 (thirteen years ago)

Albet Pujols really does make that much of a difference. to bump the Lakers in Los Angeles is almost impossible.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 4 April 2012 04:33 (thirteen years ago)

you and your angles

Bee OK, Wednesday, 4 April 2012 04:37 (thirteen years ago)

the addition of a healthy kendrys is really putting this team over the top.. however lol at trumbo at 3B. his 'defense' is awful.

wolves in our wounds (mayor jingleberries), Wednesday, 4 April 2012 16:36 (thirteen years ago)

Callaspo is the starting 3B. Trumbo is a utility DH.

polyphonic, Wednesday, 4 April 2012 18:51 (thirteen years ago)

what i read had Trumbo the elephant playing 3rd 40-50 games. but who knows where the season will take you.

two weeks pass...

When Torii Hunter first arrived to Southern California five years ago, former Angels outfielder Garrett Anderson warned him about how the thick marine layer of left field can take away home runs at night.

Hunter brushed it off -- until he realized how much of a factor it really was.

Now the same is happening with Albert Pujols.

wut

mookieproof, Sunday, 22 April 2012 23:26 (thirteen years ago)

the fuck is a marine layer?!

Porto for Pyros (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 23 April 2012 00:01 (thirteen years ago)

Isn't St. Louis basically 40 degrees and muggy every day in July-August? Does that explain why it's so hard to hit HRs there?

not to be negative so early in the morning, but albert pujols is 181st out of 185 players in ops (.505). #240M

@Buster_ESPN
From ESPN Stats/Info: Albert Pujols's previous career-low in RBI after 27 games was 17, in 2007. He's got five so far this year.

Albert Pujols now has the lowest WAR in the league (-1.0) among qualified batters

frogbs, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 15:10 (thirteen years ago)

at this point i'm either watching every AB live or going back ondemand and watching them, because damn

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 15 May 2012 15:42 (thirteen years ago)

the thing that has really struck me is that, at least in the ABs i've seen in the last few weeks, it seems like he's getting ahead in the count in a good number of at bats. i feel like i've seen a number of at bats where he gets ahead 2-0 and still ends up grounding out two pitches later. it's very weird.

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 15 May 2012 15:47 (thirteen years ago)

definitely his swing has gone all the way to hell

Brandon Wood's Revenge

Grusin' Gang (Andy K), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 15:53 (thirteen years ago)

yeah - he looks off-balance and wobbly, not at all the way he looked even last year. he's not really walking either. even his one HR just barely made it over the fence. if I was the Angels front office I'd be freaking the hell out right now - his contract is certainly bad as it is, but if he doesn't produce during the first couple of years, it's going to look much, much worse

frogbs, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 15:57 (thirteen years ago)

yeah, well i'm sure they are freaking the hell out

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 15 May 2012 16:02 (thirteen years ago)

also it's important to note that even Adam Dunn had 4 HRs at this point last year

frogbs, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 16:05 (thirteen years ago)

yeah -- it's also not helping that the entire offense is basically the worst in baseball right now aside from like the twins

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 15 May 2012 16:08 (thirteen years ago)

@JonHeymanCBS
albert's not done. but he is Dunn. thru 35 gs in 2011 dunn was .197/.322/.362. 2012 albert is .197/.235/.275

@LookoutLanding
@JonHeymanCBS those aren't close

Grusin' Gang (Andy K), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 17:04 (thirteen years ago)

the breakout game for albert everyone's been waiting for:

3 for 3, 2 RBI

Bot 3rd: LA Angels

- A. Callaspo doubled to right, M. Trout scored
- A. Pujols singled to shallow left center, A. Callaspo scored

Bot 5th: LA Angels

- A. Pujols singled to shortstop, M. Trout scored

omar little, Wednesday, 16 May 2012 00:26 (thirteen years ago)

Mickey Hatcher has been fired.

Grusin' Gang (Andy K), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 03:06 (thirteen years ago)

yeah, because it's all *his* fault

mookieproof, Wednesday, 16 May 2012 03:22 (thirteen years ago)

Apparently he was a little too loose-lipped about a closed-door team meeting a while back and Albert said "I'll have to talk to Mickey about that."

according to BBR in 53 games he's got a WAR of 4.1, behind only brett lawrie (4.8) and votto (4.2) and in far fewer games.

omar little, Thursday, 28 June 2012 22:27 (twelve years ago)

god trout hit a fucking bomb tonight

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 18 July 2012 00:32 (twelve years ago)

so there's an argument to be made that dude is the best player in baseball right now. if you're the angels, do you try to sign him to a long-term deal now? if you're trout, what do you accept?

mookieproof, Wednesday, 18 July 2012 00:58 (twelve years ago)

there's basically no incentive for trout to sign for anything under $100 million imo

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 18 July 2012 01:03 (twelve years ago)

of course not. and they have control of him for several years, although arbitration won't make it cheap.

what about $200m/10y? takes him through 31. $20m is hardly unreasonable compared to shit going on *now*, let alone five years from now, considering how awesome he is. i dunno -- if i'm 20 years old, i might be pleased to take a guarantee of being set for life over the possibility of more. and barring injury/andruw-dom, there'll still be a further payoff in 10 years.

mookieproof, Wednesday, 18 July 2012 01:20 (twelve years ago)

agree that he is one of the best players in the league right now. when i watched those three games against the Giants i kept saying what if.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 18 July 2012 02:13 (twelve years ago)

can they afford to commit that kind of money right now?

Porto for Pyros (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Wednesday, 18 July 2012 02:18 (twelve years ago)

have albert chip in imo

johnny crunch, Wednesday, 18 July 2012 02:20 (twelve years ago)

mike trout leading the AL in runs scored by about a half dozen over his closest followers (kinsler, granderson, cabrera, de aza, cano, etc) despite appearing in about twenty fewer games. 74 runs in 77 games.

omar little, Saturday, 28 July 2012 05:46 (twelve years ago)

mvp

J0rdan S., Saturday, 28 July 2012 08:05 (twelve years ago)

The last guy I remember scoring a run a game--I had to double-check--was Henderson in '85: 143 games, 146 runs. (Not Dave, not Steve--the other one.) Bagwell came close in 2000--159 games, 152 runs--and Bonds was a little less close a couple of times, ditto Raines in '87.

clemenza, Saturday, 28 July 2012 12:17 (twelve years ago)

A leadoff hitter slugging .600, surely that's never been done. (Rickey's high was .577.)

clemenza, Saturday, 28 July 2012 12:24 (twelve years ago)

brady anderson in '96 had a .637 slugging percentage, wasn't he in the leadoff slot most of the year?

omar little, Saturday, 28 July 2012 14:43 (twelve years ago)

Forgot about him. Baseball Reference has him leading off for 102 out of 149 games (SP = .627); he batted second for 43 games (SP = .667), and 7/8/9 for another four. So I'm not sure if that'd count or not...he had slightly fewer plate appearances batting leadoff than he would have needed to qualify for the batting title. (The Orioles had Alomar batting leadoff for 48 games.)

clemenza, Saturday, 28 July 2012 14:53 (twelve years ago)

i love trout batting leadoff, i know a lot of angels fans would probably love to see him in the 3 hole but he's awesome in the #1.

omar little, Saturday, 28 July 2012 20:01 (twelve years ago)

A's-Angels would be an amazing wild-card playoff -- No-Stars v All-Stars

Pangborn to be Wilde (Dr Morbius), Sunday, 29 July 2012 01:49 (twelve years ago)

Feel like trout was one of the main reasons pujols signed with anaheim in the first place. Dude is gonna score 100s of runs if he keeps his pace up (which is insane)

johnathan lee riche$ (mayor jingleberries), Sunday, 29 July 2012 16:46 (twelve years ago)

1. Mike Trout 185
2. Ty Cobb 167

his current 6.3 WAR through 82 games is, according to baseball reference, equal to albert pujols' rookie season WAR (achieved in 161 games.)

omar little, Thursday, 2 August 2012 20:09 (twelve years ago)

Albert's monthly BA/SP this year: .217/.304, .263/.491, .326/.568, .330/.660, .400/1.100. Historically, August has been his best month.

For this, you would think the genius who drafted Trout for the Angels would have been rewarded with, what? A lifetime contract? A Lamborghini? A personal masseuse?

Instead, Eddie Bane got fired.

Then-general manager Tony Reagins summoned Bane, Angels' scouting director from 2004-2010, into his office two years ago and told him to get lost.

"Real short conversation," says Bane, who now scouts for the Detroit Tigers. "He said, 'We're not going to renew your contract.' I said, 'You've gotta be kidding me.' He said, 'I don't like your last couple of drafts.'"
